How is open world pvp?

RudedawgCDNRudedawgCDN Member UncommonPosts: 507

I quit wow because of Alterac Valley - I can't stand instanced pvp.

I've never liked Warfronts in Rift - I find it hamster wheel pvp - it's glorified dueling imo.

Is open world pvp fun on the pvp servers? Is there any point to invading enemy lands?

Thanks.

I'm curious about this too.  I'm wondering if I should join an open world pvp server, but  I cant stand getting ganked all the time.  This was the first time I am considering joining an PvE server..  How is the PvP in the game any how?

lol - please no carebears ruining my thread about "I'm so worried about getting ganked" That's what pve servers are for.

My question was about open world pvp and open world objectives.

I bet number 2 there would be the guy that cries about getting ganked but would be the first to jump a lowbie if he seen em.  Now on topic, i havent seen it either but it just doesnt look like it will be that good. hope im wrong though.

How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?

I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.

If your idea of fun PvP is running around w/ a OP spec and killing people questing who aren't using an OP PvP spec, then you'll probably have fun.

Rift is not a good PvP game.  There are too many balance issues, and their probably always will be.... Instanced or otherwise.

If you can't stand instanced PvP (the warfronts) than you aren't really going to like Rift.  As I was told, rudely, loudly, and repeatedly every time I asked about this (on the PvP servers, mind you):

Rift really isn't a game for PvP.

Unless your idea of fun is running the same warfront over and over again... and even then, in all honesty, I prefer WoWs battlegrounds to Rift's "warfronts" ...

If anyone wants to upload an awesome "world PvP" video to YouTube or something, please feel free.  Otherwise, I think you'll find out the same thing I did.  The "PvP" servers were just tacked on in an attempt to get some PvP players from games like Warhammer Online.  (Except, as sad as this is, even Warhammer Online did RvR/Open world PvP better than Rift.  With Rift it's just nonexistant.)

But that's OK for the majority of people running through the limited, linear content in Rift right now - they're not PvPer's anyway.

    Rift = 3 things:

    1) Small, linear questline and world for each race.  You get a different experience with Guardian and one with Defiant; but no different racial starting zones, etc.  If you make an alt, I hope you enjoy playing the same content over and over again.

    2) "Warfronts" (exactly 1 of which you can participate in until level 20, I believe) which are lime WoW battlegrounds only smaller and more fast paced, and they get boring more quickly.

    3) "Dynamic Rifts" where you basically zerg a rift with the other 100 people doing so, mash buttons, and wait for your random loot.

I'm expecting this game to be another Warhammer or Aion - tons of subs at launch with over half of them dropping the game 2-3 months in, as they realize all the content has been played and there ain't much else new.  To me Rift is basically "WoW lite" with a graphics and server engine overhaul.

And by "lite" I mean LITE... some people basically were complaining of repetition during beta.  Not exactly a good sign when players are getting bored with the beta before the game even launches.

Open World PvP is great on both server types.

Contested zones - combine questing/PvE elements with PvP fighting.

Open PvP works like this: you fight other players anywhere in the world.

No instances required for Open PvP, that's just Warfronts and Contested zones.

You can open PvP on PvE servers too.

I made it to 29 last night and entered the Open PvP Zones.  You can and will get ganked/do ganking if your on a PvP server as the sides fight for rifts/dungeon entrance control etc.  I cant vouch for a PvE server but to be honest I really like it a lot its refreshing to be contested for objectives and is something I have missed in games as of late.
