On the equipment comment, here's some basic (and I do mean basic) info for early on-
Rings- once you hit level 10, buy AT LEAST 1 Eremite's Ring and 1 Saintly Ring. The Eremite's Ring will give you +2 INT (for strengthening Black magic, as well as blind, bio, sleep, etc.) and the Saintly Ring will give yo u+2 MND (strengthening your curative power, as well as dia, paralyze, etc.). Ideally, two of each is best and macro an equipment change depending on the spell.
As for +MP numbers, your best bet early on is in earrings. Energy Earrings if you can afford them give a +3MP, and doubled up that's an extra blind casting. Doesn't sound like a lot, but surprisingly, it is. If for some ODD reason you can afford astral rings (convert 25HP to MP) you obviously want one of these at level 10. Later on look for +MP equipment for hands (Zealot's Mitts, if you're healing more than nuking= Def 3, INT -2, MND +1 MP +5) and sometimes feet (Mage's sandals, I believe another +5 MP?)
Get a promise badge at level 7, will give you just a bit more MND.
Get a Friar's rope, I believe level 14, for a little more MP.
As for spells, we have the most of all the mages (obviously). Many are VITAL, some not so much. Get all the curative spells, black magic elemental spells, and EVERY Enfeebling spell you can get the moment you level. Even better, bring them with you for exp parties where you know you'll level. You'll impress people if you're still a newbie and do this, and get parties faster. The Bar- spells and En-spells are not all vital, if cash is an issue. Here's a list of the vital ones:
Barsleep, Barparalyze, Bar-elements (as you can afford them, esp fire)
Enthunder (you're first one, if I remember), and Enfire (I almost always use Enfire now, unless its iceday or I know a mob's inherent weakness)
As for the enfeebles, make sure you're saving for level 32, Dispel. Probably our most important enfeebling spell out there, and if you don't have it the minute you make 32, getting parties will be VERY tough.
Comments
Get all the spells you can for your level and every level after that.
Buy any MP+ MND+ and INT+ equipment you can afford and then just oput in other armor in the empty spots.
I dont know, what area did you start in?
