Well so far like any new game you always excited about going through the content and playing with guildies. So I'll break down Rift from what I have done so far.
1. Rift Events - Ok these are fun to do right now but I can see myself getting bored of them eventually because they happen very often, perhaps too often for my taste.
2. Combat - Petty much the same as WoW.
3. Crafting - Same as WoW but here is the problem I have with making gear in Rift. You get better gear from quests the majority of the time. So why would I waste time becoming an outfitter or armorsmith. Unless there will be unique recipes that will be worth making near endgame I find it to be a waste of time. More useful crafting professions are apothecary, Runecrafting and Artificer. Also just doing the gathering professions might be the best idea such as butchering, forgering and mining.
4. Questing - Boring. This game has more fedex quests than Jimmy Carter has liver pills. The thing about It though is that you can do them pretty fast. There is no long grind, no walking to the otherside of the earth just to collect a book. You go to where the quest is and finish it off within 5 minutes.
5. Mounts - Like WoW at level 20 you get to buy a mount. CE people get the turtle and you can use it as asap!
6. NPC voice acting - Pretty pathetic! The people who did the VO for this needs to find a new creer in life. It is just so bad, it seems the VO was done with no effort put into it. It seems all they did was read the script like a 10 year old was reading out loud in class.
7. Cutscenes - Ok I admit, Blizzard spoiled me with the awesome cutscenes in the Diablo games and I have yet to see anyone else do great in this department, this includes Trion. Trion needs work in this department.
8. PvP - Same as scenarios in Warhammer Online. Zerg vs Zerg and over time I can see myself getting bored easily.
9. Classes - The Soul system is good because you can make many types of classes.
10. Replayability - I will say this game is good for 2-3 max characters and that is where the fun will start turning into boredom because leveing in this game is pretty easy, infact too easy.
11. Dungeons - I have not done dungeons yet so if someone else can share some info on this that would be great.
Final thoughts, well Rift is good for the moment for me since the rest of the mmo genre is pretty pathetic right now. One of the best things about Rift is that Trion knows how to polish games well, infact even better than Blizzard. Rift is clearly a game for the casuals who have 1-2 hours to spare. If you are the hardcore type who has alot more hours to spare I'm afraid this game is not you. The hardcores out there will run through this game like a hot knife through butter.
Rift will be a successful for quite awhile. Population will peak now because nothing else is good to play but once more popular games like The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 hit the shelves, Rift's population will vastly decline but still be a good game. Trion is a good company and hopefully they can stick around for a long time.

Pretty sure there's no level restriction on the mounts- you can buy them as soon as you get the money.
Also, I got a turtle in the mail without getting CE preorder but I'm not sure if that was a mixup or not.
Also, the PVP scenarios are worse than Warhammer in my opinion, but that's to be expected because it's a PVE focused game. I'd say they're much more like WoW's battlegrounds, because there besides healing and some buffs, there's nowhere near as much team oriented pvp-focused abilities as in Warhammer.
Warhammer was messed up but they got scenarios right from the beginning (the only thing they did get right).
Can't really argue with the rest of what you say but I wouldn't put everything in such a harsh light, except that I really like Rifts just because you can go and do them any time you're bored with quests for variety, because there's almost always one going on.
Having more options in gameplay is a high-priority for me in MMOs. Rifts add another fun activity into the usual mix.
For saintviktor cause is quite negative this is a quite accurate and good review .
Am suprised he is still not burned out yet from leveling .
But truth is , its wierd I see tons of jaded mmorpg.com site fans having fun again .
thats a bit wierd , seems mmo overburn is still not in our blood .
Well I'm pretty sure I will not be renewing my sub after my intial 4 months is up because I'll be playing Torchight 2 and Dungeon Siege 3.
Same thing served on a different plate. Its amazing how generic the game is, yet how people are acting like its so new and different. Its not. More class choice, but all the rest is exactly what you have been playing for years. Game is called Rift and is the mechanic they were talking up. They have since nerfed the usefulness of them to the point that people are avoiding them due to lack of exp and boredom. Rift nerfed Rifts...nice one.
I'm not sure anyone is saying it's really different. It's very similar to WoW.
But it is new. New world, new music, some new tweeks, new lore, new play options.
People have been saying, "If I wanted to play WoW I'd play WoW", but there's a big difference between a 6 year old game and a 4 day old game. Personally, I'd rather play a game where everything is fresh to everybody and the starter zones are packed rather than seeing maybe 5 other people per 10 levels like in older games.
I already cancelled my subscription, doubt i'll even finish out the 30 free days...
Rifts were cool at first but I am completely bored with them now, if anything they have become an annoyance when i'm questing and they spawn on top of me. There also lame in how the contribution system works, If I spam my Fire Sphere attack I usually make top 3, if I use any other attacks i'm lucky to get into the top 20. So basically you get into a rift and spam your fastest attack the whole time. Thats all you do... After about my 30th rift I was completely bored with them and now avoid them if I can.
Questing is the same as all the other MMO's, generic boring and not entertaining at all, at least some of the other MMO's have attempted to add some humor to the quests to make them a bit more fun.... So yeah, Rift's PvE questing is very plain vanilla
PvP is just basically zerg rush, the FOTM is the Rogue class which was complained about in Beta but Trion ignored everyone, so now most people play Rogue... Don't blame them, you can do Major DPS with them, Great healing and Awesome Tanking, a group of 5 rogues can easily do dungeons by themselves with no other class.
Dungeons are your typical Tank and Spank, nothing really new or impressive about it....
The Soul Class Tree looks great on paper but in practice just so-so, you have to be-careful what you pick or you end up with a gimped avatar. There really is only a few viable souls, the rest are kind of worthless. I think Trion knows this, since when you pick a soul it will recommend the other 2 souls that go with it... So much for diversity
Bottom Line: Decent MMO but if you have been playing MMO's for several years odds are you will get bored with this one fairly fast.... I would guess a lot of people won't go past the first 30 days and expect server merges within 3 months...
I guess the biggest joke about Rift is Trion hyping it with the phrase "Next Generation MMO".... It's a MMO but definitely not Next Generation liked they hyped it to be.
That is incorrect.
Rift allows you to have 3 proffessions, WoW only allows 2.
Rift has augment slots built into the crafting mechanic so that you can customize gear. If you want to add say Strength or Dexterity, etc. , you can, provided you have the mats (from drops) . In adittion, there are crafted dyes so you can add that to the final product as well.
So, to sum up, if you are an outfitter/apothocary/Butcher, you could craft a piece of custom augmented leather gear and custom dye it before putting it up for sale.
And before someone asks, the piece of custom gear I described can still have a rune (made by runecrafters) added to it after it has been crafted and it is still BOE.
*Edited to fix typo*
Wow may only offer 2 main but WoW also offers cooking, fishing and first aid where Rift does not. Kind of tit for tat here don't you think ?
