Mortal Online: Am I missing something?

I have recently invested some time in a free trial account with the game Mortal Online. At the beginning of my experience I was excited to see that old "you gain "X" skill points" mechanic brought back. I proceeded to kill some stuff, sucessfully and unsucessfully. I then began to explore the land, at which point I started to realize that these beautiful towns and villages the designers have put in the game are extremely baren. Some of which I cannot even enter without going a ridiculous route which i'm pretty sure the designers did not intend. I am also getting tons of "That Door is Locked" when exploring. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those are probably player made buildings i'm guessing, you need their key to get in I believe.
