I can't comment on specs or performance (not played the game in years) but you'd have a lot more content if you bought it for the PC because you can expand it enormously using mods.
Always read the small print.
I played in both pc and ps3.
the pc version is better if you enjoy mods and such, but i liked the PS3 version most... Its better to play in a big screen and the controls are great in dualshock 3.
You can't go wrong with Oblivion, no matter the system the game will be awsome hehe
You can always get a really big monitor for your PC (like I have) or even plug it into the TV if you have the right connection, and buy a game pad for the PC. Not quite the same thing I know, but it's worth it for the mods!
Always read the small print.
PC, why?
OOO or O³ is a mod made by a player that fix a lot of crap done by bethesda like... walking down the street, minding your own business then OMG A BANDIT WITH A DRAEMORA SWORD. and other crap.
and other mods too to fix those damn ugly faces, i dont know if you can mod on ps3 (legally) so im giving my opinion on where you can fix on damn of a broken game. kudos
ps: Shivering Islands > main story.
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Get the PC version. If for nothing than 1 reason: User mods. PS3 version can't use mods. the mods run from weapons and armor to races and locations.
The mods give the game much needed replayability. Other wise you'll spend about 20 hours to beat the game and you be all "Well that was crap."
When I played the game, I was using a compuuter that is now... 5 years old, and was only midgrade new. Don;t forget to just wander around. there's random stuff to check out that's not in the main quest line.
Ran perfectly on my old PC on high settings my old PC : AMD 6000+, 2 gigs of ram, 8800GTS,
I think the PC version will be better overall if your PC can run it. You have better graphics and performance, tons of mods which will increase he longevity 10 fold, and you have the choice of using a controller if you want.
If you're running a relaly old PC and you don't think it will run great, the PS3 version probably runs really well. Played it on 360 but not the PS3.
I recommend the PC version for sure. The controls are just much better with the mouse and keyboard and there are TONS of cool mods for the game that you can't use on the console versions.
I bought it for ps3 originally and loved it. However, like these guys mentioned above me, i ended up rebuying it for the pc for the moding capabilities. Ups the replayability, and fixes a lot of annoying things about the game. I for one hated they way you leveled up in the original game but there are mods that can chage that.
Anyway it runs great on ps3 and core game isnt bad by any means.
my pc is pretty new, i7, 6 gig ram, gtx 470, runs great on that.
Thanks for the replys, I'll get the Pc version

This really doesn't work at all, theres no programs that let you map oblivions controls like they would be on the console.
You'll end up running short on buttons if you're running the PC version.
A modded PC Oblivion simply blows any of the console variants away. If you have the patience to read into the modding scene (in ANY part of PC gaming) then the rewards of new gaming experiences with your games are right there. Even games that are years old.
Why get the PC version?
If your computer is halfway recent, it should perform well on Oblivion. The game came out in '06.
Again, the mods could potentially bring in:
* New, better textures for characters, NPCs, terrain, fauna, etc.
* If you got a good rig, high resolution textures.
* New / Tweaked character models.
* New equipment.
* New quests.
* New locations to explore.
* Fan-made fixes to the game that Bethesda still have not bothered to take care of after 5 years of Oblivion's release (The Unofficial Patches for example).
* New races.
* Sweeping game adjustments (Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is a popular example).
* New monsters.
* New gameplay elements introduced by the fans.
* Improved cities (Better Cities mod for example).
* Improved sound.
On and on and on. And of course the mods being FREE, made by fans, for the fans. It can be a bit of work to find, d/l, install, and get the game working right with them. But the pay off in massively improved and new gameplay more than makes up for it.
Unless your PC is ancient, there is no comparison. The PC version has the potential to be vastly superior in every possible way than its console brothers. With the PC version, you can tailor the game to your liking and expand Oblivion with mods that are far better than any of the lame DLCs that have been released.
To help get you going in the direction of mods:

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (First Lieutenant Clifton B. Cates, US Marine Corps, Soissons, 19 July 1918)
Yeah definitely get the PC version, it is so much better than console due to all the custom mods. I recently reloaded it last week and after 3-4hrs of DLing and installing mods, I added an additonal 18GB of data to the core game...LOL
I'd like to note that this is wrong as Oblivion has settings on the PC versions to play with a console controller.
My copy did at least, as I play(ed) it with a 360 controller on my comp.
So mapping really isn't a problem at all.

of the 3 i would say personally that i think the PC version is superior, the controls are expanded to make use of the increased number of available controls, and the interface itself is better, due to the more user friendly menu's etc - and with a half decent rig the graphics on the PC version are better too. add in the shivering isles etc.. and hard to imagine not having the PC version ..
