What's with all the goon squad hate?

It seems to be totally irrational... It's a massive zerg guild. There are massive zerg guilds in every game...
I thought maybe they were really good and a zerg guild... you know 500 people working together.... ran into them several times in warfronts.. Unless they are trying to lull me into a false sense of security I kicked their butts all over creation... heck I usually don't even die when I fight them.
So what's the issue? Do they make your side look bad?

Generally the trouble is that they act like dicks and /b/tards.
The Goons don't seem to play MMOs to win them. They seem to play for two reasons - to have fun together and to find creative ways to srew with the rest of the playerbase. Either way, they are playing to have fun which seems like the part of MMO gaming that many MMO gamers have forgotten about.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

In so far as I have even a tiny problem with the goons, it is that second part. The vast majority of goons are good people and great fun to play with when I have run into them in various games; however there is a tiny minority that not only play for the second reason but who bring a malicious and ugly side to it. When your primary reason for playing a game is to "grief" (in the classic sense of ruining their gameplay, not just beating or besting them) other players, then to me you have some problems...
Is this the same group who were Goon Swarm in EvE?
If so, they aren't a bad bunch, just a zerging guild who seem to enjoy winding up other players.
As for hate.....well, players will always whinge about being zerged. Man-up, if the game allows it, then it's part of the game and anyone can do it to anyone else.

i guess some people don't like being humiliated in a game by mass numbers of players that are only in the game to grief others.....
The day their Alliance was finally destroyed completely in EVE was a great day indeed. All goons do is troll, act like dicks, and scam. I wish they had never discovered MMOs and stayed on somethingawful.com where they can troll each other and leave us alone.
They have been very creative in their antics though, especially in EVE. Their recruitment scam for instance: trick people into 'joining their cool 0.0 alliance where the real shit goes down', paying the temporary 'security installment' and having them haul all your ships and mods to their home system as a 'friendly service'. When the aspiring new member does manage to arrive in their space they get ganked for good measure
