I want some honest, non-biased, opinions on this game. I don't want this full of people who are saying "OH IT'S LIKE WOW LOL IT SUCKS" I want to hear your full, honest opinion on this game. Though I haven't played it yet, I've seen videos, read reviews, some other stuff, and to me it seems like a pretty fun game.
Trolls, flamers, anyone going off what other people say, or anyone bashing on the game but haven't even played it yet, please, just don't even post. I want your full and honest opinions about this game.
Thing I've seen that have interested me:
4 main classes (warrior, cleric, mage, rogue); 8 subclasses for each; 32 classes total - Gives you a chance to make your character unique. On top of that you get 2 classes.
Character customization looks very good
Good graphics
You don't have to wait to queue in for a dungeon, you click and you're in. Also, it's not tank and spank as I've seen, you actually have to think. Also I hear the dungeons have some pretty good gear.
Public question looks interesting.
The rifts look pretty fun. That's something that has never been done before. I saw that they can spread into cities and kill the npc's until all the mobs are dead. That seemed really fun. I also saw that they can pop up in the middle of roads (though a lot of people will probably hate this)
3 talent trees.
PVP looks a lot better than other games I've seen. Also you can loot players on warfronts and it gives you a good amount of experience and gear.
From the videos I've seen, it looks like it has a more "epic" feel to the game, rather than a comic fantasy feeling.
Keep in mind I have yet to play this game, I just saw some things from videos.
Now, I do NOT expect this to be the great "WoW killer" (although WoW is obviously killing itself since cataclysm. I honestly do believe that after Rift, GW2, Archage, and several other games, that a chunk of WoW's fanbase will be gone.) but it does seem to be a very interesting game. So while I wait for the free trial to come out, I want to gather some opinions on this game to know what to expect.
Comments
For god sake make a research, the question was already asked 1000 times just in the last 3 days. And no our answers won't change just because you personnaly opened this thread.
You want an honest opinion:
Good:
1. Soul system customization
2. 3rd enemy faction is not just fluff
3. Response time to fixing issues
4. Storyline
5. Rifts/Invasion that are actually dynamin
6. pvp gear at low level that does not cause twinking/griefing
Edit: 7. RMT spam is controlled and accounts are being banned fast
Cracks in the perfect world
1. Overconfidence. Guilds are blazing through 50 levels in two days grinding instances and
are already destroying expert mode dungeons we were told would last months.
2. Hands off approach on the forums. There is literally not a single CM who is on the
general forums who does anything when it comes to questions.
3. This is what will personally kill the game for me and the reason I only selected
a one month sub over the 6 month plan. Cross-server LFG does not have a definite no.
If they implement cross server LFG then I could see this triggering a mass exodus.
Cross server LFG would do extreme harm to a game that touts dynamic world content.
Edit: 4. Account security in Rift is a pretty big joke. If someone hacks your e-mail, then you are screwed basically. One of my bigger issues is Trion is not taking account security seriously.
I havent played it because I do not see anything intresting about it.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Please do not respond to me
The game is pretty interesting if you are into a WoW/EQ/EQ2 fantasy genre the game is amazing.
They do have small issues that if handeled incorrectly could blow up bad.
The only mmos I really ever plalyed were WOW , Eve... ugh and i tried aion at launch. I played WOW for during vanilla the most (40 man raid guild went to about half way thru aq40) and TBC the first 4 raids and all heroics.
In terms of rift being similar to wow... it kinda is, but in a good way. Wow is REALLY polished in terms of movement and operation and gives people a lot of what they want in an mmo.. and rift is no different. The movement and spells system is similar, but i found that to be a good thing because its easy to get use to.
Other then that, the game is different enough.there are tons of class choices, Leveling is still a grind, no matter how you look at it, but it is the shortest grind ive seen in an mmo. In the early levels you make use of the rifts as an alternative to questing, but higher up (mid 20s +) you start instance grinding. and questing when you cant. (although if there happens to be a group in one of those areas, rifts are still worth it)
Instances are not really that hard, BUT they are harder then the ones in wow (pre max lvl) each pre max lvl instance in rift feels more like a 5 man then the ones in wow do
Ive made it to 36, and played to level 24 in open beta. I enjoy the game and plan to keep playing for awhile so long as the endgame works out to be ok, and seeing how well everything is put together so far i think it will be pretty good.
This is a pretty fair sum up. I have seen a few level 50s already, of course, they were in the headstart.
My honest opinion:
Good:
Graphics, this game is no where as near technical as say, Age of Conan, but I love the design of the mobs, the world, the Rifts and the armor. Player characters lack a little.
Rifts, I enjoy grouping and to me the Rifts are a lot of fun, even if they are mostly a zergfest now, I've seen videos claiming that at high level they begin to require strategy and have more scripted in. I've already seen a small advancement at level 30. Time will tell.
Dungeons, the dungeons seem to be "just right" in my opinion. Not too long, not too short, not too hard and not too easy.
Soul system, this one is obvious, I can go from ranger to assassin in the click of a button, very nice to have a solo, a rift, a dungeon and a PvP build all at your fingertips.
Bad:
Aggro. Jeez, you CANNOT get from any point A to any Point B without fighting for every inch. I'm hoping they clean up the roads a bit with a patch and turn down aggro on mobs 10+ levels lower than you.
Stability, servers are still up and down, I'm sure it's launch hiccups but they need to figure it out.
Quests, same old, same old.
Overall I am enjoying the game and will likely stick with it for a while.
LOl my honest opinion. Ill probably get flamed, reported and ding but oh well the op asked for it an dwell here it is.
I like the term SOSDD. That's right same old stuff different day. I really did not find anything with this game that appealed to me.
I played beta's 1-5. I gave up on the game during beta 6 and did not look back. The problems that I had with the performance of the game with my vid card, and I am not the only person tons of discussion on the trion website about it.
Customer service was lousy. I had an issue during beta 6 that routed game through the University of miami. Well they got a block on that kind of thing. We never did figure out why when I live in Alabama the trace route went from Alabama to Georgia to Miami? All that customer service could do was suggested I get a different Internet provider. Sorry to say I am stuck with the one I have there is not another provider for a good 200 miles. So even if I wanted to play the game I cant. There were other folks in Canada and other areas that had the same issues.
What they did was take the war hammer engine and modified it. Then they took stuff from war hammer as in modified pq's called them rifts, took the animations from war hammer, Some of the crafting from wow and lotro, took the npc interface system from war hammer, the quest locate from war hammer. Put in a mix and mash from a few other games. Took the tree from AOC and modified it to where it fills in part of itself. The only difference from all the other game is the soal system tree, and allowed you to have multiple soal types.
At the end of the day you still have get 10 rats, kill 10 wolves, gather 10 potatoes, turn in for cash rinse and repeat. Been there done that.
Some folks say its new and innovative, I find it boring and more par for the course. It like taking you current game giving it a wash and putting a new sign on it, saying new and improved.
So with that being said I find it SOSDD. I think i will just stay put in eq2 to where I Know what already have and like. I don't feel the need to grind out new toons in a semi remade game.
I have to wonder whats going to happen to all those who already hit 50 in the first week. The words shallow seam everything to me about that.
OH well that's my honest opinion, just mine nobody else, and it is going to make a lot of folks mad, and I don't care. If you love rift then good for you. Me I will pass on it.
Possibly an overall good game. Don't know how well it will retain past engame though.
Not interested and don't plan to play.
I did do some research, and all I see is a bunch of people bashing on the game for no good reason, and not giving any though into their posts. That's why I clarified what I wanted to see here is an honest opinions. And I'm not asking for your opinions to change, I'm asking to hear your honest opinions.
It's similar to WoW in that the core gameplay concepts, in a general sense, are the same. The combat feels similar, the character control feels similar, and the UI is similar, and the game relies on questing to assist players in leveling up (but does not force them) and in presenting game content.
That said, there are a lot of things Rift does better than WoW:
The graphics are better.
The character customization has significantly more flexibility both aesthetically (armor dyes) and in ability development via souls (talents).
The lore is better.
The content and gameworld are more dynamic, particularly without using the terribly misused phasing mechanic.
The crafting system is improved by providing items that are actualyl useful, and by also adding the augmentation mechanic.
The game is far more stable.
I could go on.
Long story short, at a glance Rift looks like a WoW clone, but when you get into the game you'll find there's a lot more to it. There's no groundbreakingly huge innovation or improvement over WoW, but there are countless 'little' things, and a few moderately significant changes/improvements (the soul system and public encounters aka rifts) that Rift has over WoW.
If you fundamentally dislike WoW, you probably won't like Rift. If you're one of the many who likes the core gameplay of WoW, but are tired of the lackluster job Blizzard's been doing lately, you'll probably love Rift.
#1 has killed games in the past. Now to be fair Rift does offer a ton of this and the guilds
destroying the expert level content are like Everquest legendary guilds that are comparable
to Paragon from WoW.
It just makes me uncomfortable that Alpha guys said it would last and we are 7 days in and
the 5 man content has been blazed through. If Trion keep up then it will be fine, but if
the fall behind or delay content releases we will have a big issue.
So long as the majority of players have enough content, then the game will do fine. The powergamers have noone but themselves to blame for "lack of content" when the majority of the rest of the players are nowhere even near level 50, let alone have all of the 5 mans on farm.
World of Warcraft clone bascally describes this game perfectly. Really isin't much else you can say good about it. Maybe the fact it has better graphics than WoW but graphics don't make a game, other than graphics and the rift system its bascally yet another wow clone with nothing special about it. The Soul system. is bascally just a 3 tiers talent system thats all. Seen it done in diablo 2.
Bascally if you want yet another world of warcraft clone-like experence get rift, if your looking for something that feels/is new, stay away from rift, because the game will feel like a huge "Been there done that" experence even from a low level, and continueing thruout the entire game. If I was to rate Rift, it'd score good for graphics, but about a 2 of 10 in the gameplay aspect since its just cloning world of warcraft and its general gameplay, from what I seen of the game, Trion didn't even try to really make anything unique, which in my eyes is a shame. WoW clone doesn't mean its nesscarally a bad game, it just means its generally a dull one, that doesn't offer much of a new experence for players.
If you can't tell I/Alot of others really frown upon game devs that just bascally cut and paste from world of warcraft and market it as a new game. If WoW never existed I'd have to admit rift is pretty good, but since wow is here and around, I can't rate rift high at all.
Most peoples problems with the game is that it feels like playing world of warcraft in yet another new skin, bascally they want something new or that at least TRIES to do something new, not some rehashed shit (Call of duty/battlefield fps series comes to mind for rehashed shit). I will admit I had a bit of fun with rift when I first started but the fun feeling didn't last long at all once I relised how much of a clone it actually was, this is from open beta experence but thats pretty much really close to release client and there won't be much if any changes to the gameplay usually that close to release.
Read my sig for a good quote.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

Rift: World of Warcraft clone #9321 Nothing special to see here move along.
I hope noone who reads this forum at all puts themselves under the delusion that this game was
not made for a semi-casual person.
This is not EQ progression stuff here. NOW to be fair yet again. One week in and I have not
heard any attempts on the 20 man 5 boss raid they released to start with.
Now obviously people are gearing up in tier 1 expert and tier 2 expert instances. Also I
have not see any word on people attempting the 10 man outdoor rift raids yet.
^ The devs have specifically stated those could be much more time invested.
Im curious what level you got up to before you wrote it off as a full clone.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
Ok so my first mmo was meridian 59 and ive played everything out there for more than a decade (i dont want to embarass myself with the actuall number of years ive played ^^)
First off right outta the gates rift ran smooth and looked and felt polished. Why wouldnt it be i mean it is like playing at least 3 of the top mmos in one that have come out in the last 5 years so i would be disappointed if it was buggy....but again how could it be because there isnt much original "new" programming in the game.
The souls are a neat idea but its literally nothing new its just simply more advanced skillsets broken into 3 parts, and you have seen all the skillsets/souls in other games. However you can mix and match it really isnt going to be as effective if you choose the ones recommended to go with each soul, making diff combos are fun but they just dont work as well as you would think.
A good example of this is picking the warlock/necro/chloro souls, they work well together but it is literally a rip from WoW's warlock (the 3 souls i mentioned are all skills that you would see in the warlock profession in wow before BC) they didnt even bother to change most the names and icons over for any skill in the game, so really whats new with this....nothing.
With that being said it is neither a positive nor a negative thing because i get it tehre are only so many names you call stuff and so on but it is literally nothing new, and literally from the 1 hour mark i had to stop and tell myself "wtf ive played this game before". It made me strongly recall my wow chars and i started to notice that the playstyle was exactly the same as in WoW as well a few other aspects from other games.........I played wow before so this didnt excite me personally but i can understand how ppl afraid of a big change would like it because everyone has played WoW who is on this site I'm pretty sure.
The Rifts in game were super cool but i will tell you its just another public quest type of thing that gets old fast, yet being forced into it becuase when invasions occurr they take an amply amount of time with a small chance of reward due to the zerg of your faction fighting it.
I played 2 chars to 30 and triied out every single combination of souls throughout the entire beta. Now you might say well it isnt garbage if you played it that much......All i gotta say is it was free and there seems to be nothing good comming out anymore so i do the beta testing thing untill i find a game that "does it" for me.
All in all its not a piece of trash game but I can't stress enough how it has not more than 2 original ideas to it, and even those are nothing new just simply a new "spin on old ideas". Kind of like Chocolate ice cream compared to chocolate Blast ice cream.
Personally this game has raised more curriosity to me about plagerism in the mmo world and how it either doesnt exist, or that trion has ties to someone of the other major game companies.
I played Rift a few years ago and thats all there is to it, its just shiny and newly released and called Rift now.
My honest opinions on Rift.
I was a VIP Closed beta tester, I started from the first days of closed beta. I played up to lvl 20 of both races a few times with different roles. I really enjoyed it.
The next few betas didn't really open anything new up, I started getting bored with the world and the rifts. By the time they increased the level cap for the game, I was burned out. I just didn't feel the game would hold my attention long enough to buy. If it were a F2P game, with a cash shop I think it would be top 5 in it's respective competivite set. But as far as a P2P game goes, I just don't think it could hold me long term.
However, I 100% believe any MMO fan should try the game if a trial becomes open, as it still deserves attention for what it is. It isn't wow, it isn't WAR, it isn't EQ or Vanguard, it's Rift. It did steal bits and pieces of everything, but so does every other successful game in this world. Yes, even Minecraft took stuff from other games. No game anymore will ever be unique, so people need to stop thinking that. Unless someone invents a new genre that is.
So far great.
Rifts
WAR like PQs that rock and actually give decent rewards.
Crafting
I never craft in an MMO. I do in RIFTS! The skills compliment each other and you get fast results.
PvP
This is why I play MMOs. Black garden is a pretty stupid set up, stand behind a tre and heal heal heal, BUT I get to fight with almost no Qs.
PvE
Did one dungeon, and though I am not a huge PvE fan, it was fun.
The System
This is the beauty of RIFT. So much diversity and ammount of powers available. The UI is cool too, although I would really like to be able to toggle certain pages more easily.
Bottom Line
IT ISN'T WoW! Let me say that again in a loud and clear voice....I am not playing WoW!
For anyone who hasn't played yet here are ba few tips for when you begin.
1. Make toon, I have a preference but I won't say it here, and get through the starting area ASAP.
2. Roll Defiant if you are into PvE, roll Guardian if you PvP.
3. Once out of the starting area do not quest. Immediatly hit the rifts as they pop. keep rifting until you get 225 little planar tokens and 5 blue corrupted tokens. Then buy blue gear with them from the rare Planar Items Dealer.
4. Now start collecting mats for your skills. By now you should be level 10 and ready for Black Garden. Work your chosen skills until they are 50.
5. Go to the main town and get the PvP quests and then Q for Black Garden. Just hit K. Also get your crafting dailies while in town. Normalluy I would puke after saying the word "dailies" but in this game they are really a must and give immediate tangilble benefits.
6. Pwn
7. Turn in PvP quests and go back to collecting mats and questing (if you do quests) until level 13.
8. At 13 you can start killing mobs that drop mats for the next level of crafting ( I like Runecrafting/Outfitter/Butcher).
9. Work your crafts and Q for more BGs.
10. At 15+ you can now chose your PvE, PvP or mixed path.
11. Don't look back!
Meridian 59 guys confuse me the most in the MMO world when you review rift because you do not
seem to realize WoW ripped off EQ.
For such an old gaming history your knowledge is pretty limited. I will admit after 7 years
Blizzard has set a standard. When I as a gamer logs on I expect to see the following:
1. AH that works
2. Instances while leveling
3. Quest
4. macro system
5. UI that is extremely simple and can be customized
6. mini-map
You can not say they stole what is an MMO standard in gaming. FF14 listened to you guys and
lost 90% of it's player base in less then a month because it did not fit what we expect
when we log into an MMO.
This poster Sums up rift nicely, and probally most other mmorpgs that are going to come out till WoW dies off.. if it ever does. Most of them are just WoW in a diff skin/clothing. I decided if a game is a wow clone by how it feels, if it feels like wow too much its a clone in my eyes.

Rift: World of Warcraft clone #9321 Nothing special to see here move along.
I simply used meridian 59 for an example in my post becuase simply put without a doubt i know i have more mmo xp than you....and i wanted to point out that i have played literally everthing out there that i was able to get my hands on for over a decade, don't be confused or derail the op pls with m59 talk it was simply a reference and if it confuses you i apologize but i know a larger portion of the community knows what i am getting at, I can't be the only on in this boat of unoriginal games.
And we are sinking
Here is what happens for the last 5 years. MMO's get released and do not have certain features
and they start to fail. Then those MMo's finally budge and add the features and people say
that the MMO company is "WoW'ifying" the game.
Companies can not win or lose with certain people right now. Why are you not playing on a EQ
progression server right now may I ask? That takes it back 8 years before WoW to about as
original as you can get.
I will have to agree with that statement. We are at a cross roads. I think the mmo boat is just about to sink because we keep filling it full or unoriginal water. I think were gong to be in for an mmo crash if these keeps up. By crash I mean a lot of folks just give up playing them.
I have to say the first time in 2 years I actually dusted of my xbox 360 and played some single player games. I would rather play some of them than the same old try that we keep getting.
So the assumption is we are in a type of "mmo bubble" that is about to pop? I would have agreed with you in the scenario there was no Rift at all and SWToR and GW2 failed and WoW was only left standing again.
The situation that has happened is an MMO company has made people look at Blizzard and go, "what is your excuse why never had that years ago?".
I think Rift slowly moves the genre forward from the stagnant state it has been in.
