Looks nice. Noticed they didn't show Norn shapeshifting in the Norn area demo. Kinda interested to see that - perhaps from PAX East?
Looking forward to that to. But I wonder if we will get to see the videos in 2D. There PAX demo is going to be in 3D.
"During PAX East 2011, NVIDIA will feature the new Guild Wars 2 demo featuring the Norn playable race and the Guardian profession in 3D. Stop by their booth # 524 and check it out!"
This is not a Thief, it is an Assassin. A Thief steals... an Assassin kills. Period. It might seem like semantics to many of you, but if you're going to have an MMORPG you'd better get your names and functions correct.

Correction, an Assassin kills who they are paid to kill. If you want to argue semantics then I suggest you do it right. Besides, it is only a name after all.
Edit: Also, if you want to use that argument you just did then tell me why WoW's Rogue and just about any Rogue in any other game do nothing but kill. Nothing about the name Rogue says anything about killing.
Awesome. I like the concept of a Thief more than an Assassin. It allows for a bit more versatility in the flavor/roleplaying department. (An assassin is expected to be silent and cold. A thief can be just as reserved, a more cheery prankster, or a noble mercenary)
A profession like this is basically a requisite in modern MMOs. Are we surprised?
The more i think about having an Assasin/Rogue to play again in a new rpg the more i am starting to not look forward to this class. The use of guns reminds me very much of the witchhunter from Warhammer.
Maybe it is just me but i just dont feel excited about gw2 anymore, then again i have played gw1 for 5 years so maybe more of the same is just not for me.

What do you call a profession that steals and kills? A big part of this profession is stealing from your opponent and using that item against him.

Hmm.. and what does an Elementalist do? He KILLS. What does a Warrior do? He KILLS. All the professions are "assassins" in GW2 because it is a combat-oriented game. Period lol.
On the other hand what does Thief do that other classes don't? He steals. Imo the case is closed right there.
And going along this line of thinking I still don't like "Guardian" because he "guards"... and all the professions in GW2 are supposed to be capable of assuming a support role. You can have an Elementalist earth-attuned "guardian". Professions in GW2 are based on playstyles rather than roles and that's why I don't like "Guardian" as I wouldn't really be happy with "Assassin".
But why are all that test out the game so damn horrible at playing -.-
Its not the typical stand in one spot click button and click another type game play. There is a bit more to it then that. Also the people playing most likely havent had much game time, if any with it.
It's not just that like the guy that was playing the charr theif... everyone was like: heal yourself, hit 6, hit 6!!! and the guy playing: uhmmm 6 where is that uhmm oh on the keyboard... hmmm let's see here 1,2,3... oh there it is... oh i'm dead . It's just plain common sense in the demos you see people charging in taking on the hardest mobs with 5% hp left.
Even though I love seeing new gameplay of the game. It would be nice for a change to watch a gameplay video of someone who actually knows what he is doing. I mean come on you got an hp bar, wasd to move, double tap to roll and your damn skillbar a braindead monkey could play the game better. :P
"If I had a d*ck, I'd go get laid. But we can do that next best thing... Let's kill people."

The person who played the charr thief was Shawn Schuster from Massively.com. It was his first time ever playing gw2 and as Rubi said on GW2GURU, they weren't expecting to be allowed to play the demo.
This is not a Thief, it is an Assassin. A Thief steals... an Assassin kills. Period. It might seem like semantics to many of you, but if you're going to have an MMORPG you'd better get your names and functions correct.
This makes no sense at all...
This class steals things. Did you miss the part where a large part of battle involves stealing objects from opponents and using that object as weapons/snares/traps/whatever?
Have you never heard of thief that killed someone? Then they must be a murderer? In that case, all the classes in all of MMORPG's should be called murderers or killers.
Perhaps you need to get your functions correct? Not just talking about MMORPG functions either...
This is not a Thief, it is an Assassin. A Thief steals... an Assassin kills. Period. It might seem like semantics to many of you, but if you're going to have an MMORPG you'd better get your names and functions correct.
Well, thief does make sense for the function of the class. However, I can understand why some people have problems with this name. To me, thief sounded really small..... It just doesn't sound really, for the lack o a better word (that I can come up with at the moment), epic lol.
Rogue and burglar, to me, seemed like a better name. But then, i guess everything are just preceptions? If the game is awesome, I can forgo things like unepic class name lol.
Thief makes perfect sense to me. Pretty much every MMO class ever (Barring those rare few crafting-only sorts) involves killing people, so the fact the thief kills people doesn't automatically make them an assassin.
Also, thief works both ways as a name. They are a thief of items, and they are a thief of lives.
It sounds ridiculous if you try saying an assassin 'Assassinated their pocket' as a euphemism for stealing.
It makes sense its not the Sin because of the gun wielding. I think this is the first time I find myself exited about using guns in a fantasy mmo. And I have to say the most interesting aspect of the Thief has to be the stealing mechanic and being able to steal weapons from your enemy to use. Im guessing that wont be a pvp ability though.
The problem with this class is that all the regular names are bad names. Thieves are bad. Rogues are supposed to be dishonest people, not to mention rogue also means going solo. Assassin sounds like a hitman. Stalker sounds like a predator.
They need a name that describes a character with agility, sneakyness, and swiftness, but NOT a bad person.
Obviously something like ninja could be a good person, but doesn't suit the game well. Maybe like "operative" or something?
Yeah, another reason assassin will not work, is the fact that this is one of the three "Adventurer" classes. Assassin, does not sounded like a adventurer.
What about Scout or Bounty-Hunter?
Sigh, there is like no good naming for this class lol....

Well, if you want to get REALLY technical, modern usage of the word assassin is defined as someone who kills for a political purpose, regardless of whether or not they're paid to. The word itself dates back to a fairly small and radical Islamic cult from the middle ages.
I personally dislike both titles. They're just too narrow for a basic class. Assassin bring too much of a dark and brooding killer vibe, while thief does the opposite and brings to mind jovial street urchins. I've always preferred rogue. Wandering vagrants operating outside of the law. broad enough to bring about ideas of simple theivery to full out assassination. leaves you free to specialize in whatever.
Warriors fight wars, magicians do magic and rogues break the law. makes life easy to use general words
Honestly it was leaked today and mmorpg.com is literally a week behind with information! ArenaNet posted this same information and thier website a week ago as a teaser, promoting PAX east! Honestly this is the third post that MMORPG.com has written as beaking news and literally been behind the ball by at least 3 days to a week. I am thinking MMORPG needs to consider hiring either better investgative journalist or some real gamers that know how to search out this information and get it posted to the community.

Whoa this is the reveal. Sweet... need to see the vids in action, looks like ranger has some serious comp. now...

what does he mean with "theif is the FIRST profession that uses pistols" in video 2 around the 1 min mark?
are there coming more pistol users?
I would imagine. It would be rather pointless to have a weapon in the game if only 1 profession could use it.
true true but so far (or at least afaik) the other professions dont use pistols right?
was thinking more about what the last profession might be....
