Well in the current state of EQ2, good luck with your 90$ price for an expansion. Even with all the fluff items bonus, 90$ is insanely expensive.
Well that made it easy. Been debating whether i wanted to get this since i know i'll be leaving not too long after to try SW:ToR. Asking for $60 for an expansion (let alone $90) makes it an easy call. So long EQ2, been fun! lol
That's a LOT of stuff in the Collector's Edition! Especially for a download version! The new expansion contains a new race addition - the Freeblood Vampire race. There's a Freeblood "Lair" and a racial "buff" along with some other add-on that can be bought on the Station Exchange for $30, in addition to the expansion. I saw yesterday that EBgames.com has the Velious expansion up for pre-order now at $39.99 (+ tax and shipping options, of course). And for the first time, the retail box version has LESS than the CE download version! I've been an EQ2 gamer since 2005, and this is a real change.
I agree with Aguithia - I don't think Sony can pull off a $90 price hike, especially for a download "collector's edition". But I don't think they really expect to either. Not when you can get the box version for $40. I think they've put this price out there to scare people into buying the CE download version during the next 30 days at $60. The $60 price is only good thru Feb. 21st. I'd bet a lot more folks will be getting EBgames box version. The one good thing about it is you get ALL the previous expansions & the 3 adventure packs with the game. For new gamers, that's a good bargain.
I'm sure curious to see what that "summer home" looks like. There's a 7-year veteran reward that's pretty awesome now... the Mistmore Crags Estate (a mini-version of the Mistmoore Castle, minus the basement and a few other spots). It IS an empty mansion though. But then, 7-year vets probably have a TON of crap in their "old houses" to put in it, and lvl 90 carpenters can make virtually all the Mistmoore furniture anyway.
There's also a "Flying Sciff" you can move into, if you attended the last Fan Faire in Vegas - kinda cute..... living in your own sky boat. I heard some talk about Sony possibly making that house available for purchase, but only the Fan Faire folks got it so far.
Anyway, the expansion looks real interesting from where I sit. I never played EQ1 - so the whole frozen wastes zone will be totally new to me. Apparently Sony is giving the Vellious expansion to EQ2 Expanded gamers who decide to subscribe. Nice perk!
EQ2 still with the 30 days for new accounts only sorry but this HAS to change every company get your money grabbing fingers out of your noses and start at least crediting people with 30 days sub when they buy a frickin expansion are your vets not as important and worthy of the 30 days as your new players.
As much as i hate them at times this is one area NCSoft gets right when you buy a NC expansion you get your 30 days whethter active or new.
Actually I think EQ2 gives you a lot for the money most of the time. New subs only have to pay 49.99 for all expansions and with the amount of things to do in EQ2 I think they are the best bargain of the same game type. If you want to start WOW you have to pay for 4 expansions.....uggghhh!!! Of course I only play a certain number of MMOs so I don't know the pricing of all. EQ2 is still full of fun and content
Why bait a hook and shove it in a fish's mouth if it is already caught and in your boat .
Just sayin. That seems to be thier logic. not mine.
Work hard Play Harder
I'm a bit sick of the path developers have been taking (particularly SOE since the SWG days) of granting special items to folks for forking over the most cash for an expansion. I'd like to see a return to the days of earning items within the game. In game art and such is one thing, but armor, special mounts, etc., that's just a bit too much. How about granting special edition buyers a headstart on a quest FOR said items, outside of the random little trinkets? Other players still have to earn access to the quest via exploration and unlocking it but pre-order of special edition purchasers can recieve a quest scroll. At least then you're not disrespecting the player base that already pays monthly or buys your normal expansions by creating items that basicly cost you $80 in real life.
Top Ten Most Misused Words/Phrases in MMO Industry...
Something tells me the best part about this expansion is going to be its box art.
You're all forgetting that its an all in one compilation pack... and the free 30 days.. its better than what WoW does, for example.
they have failed to meantion whether or not the free 30 days for new accounts applies to either extended or live servers or both.
With the new free EQ2 the expansions are free but cost 16.99 a month thats where SOE is pushing everyone the normal servers are getting server merges once a year.
Thats not right.. gold subscribers on eq2x arn't getting sentinals fate at the moment.. only platinum do
and its $14.99 a month
At 90.00, goodby Sony.
I would have to agree as a 5 year player this expac has bought a very small amount of returning players, Every year Expac time is the busiest it would appear 60% or more did not even bother to return for this terrible Xpac
I would agree 89.99 for the collector’s edition is way to high for game thats over 7 years old
The only Advantage to that collectors vs the normal edition is a few items that greedy soe will put up on the market place in 3-6 months anyhow
As for the state of EQ2 after 7 years, its too old it really has not place in a monthly sub or paid expac market with new games, this software should have went FTP 2+ years ago but soe is bleeding it for every penny possible
