Curious why there hasn't been any mention of this game? It's going to be a MMO, in a giant persistant destructable world (universe). Every piece of rock is worth something, valuable rare metals can be hidden inside the middle of a giant asteroid that you have to blast into. FPS mechanics ala Descent (great 90's mac game). Their expected features-to-be-implemented-after-release list is lofty and intriguing too.
I'm amazed that this is flying under the radar

This game isn't flying under the radar. People make threads like this all the time about Miner Wars, then the threads disappear into oblivion when most of the viewers realize that at the end of the day, the game is about mining asteroids, and nothing else.
Mining asteroids. Tunneling through asteroids. Nothing else.
It's PVP-centric, I guess I forgot to mention that. Most of the action in this game is created by other players, not by a computer.
copy pasted from their website:
Key Features
Global Scale Destruction - The entire game environment is destructible and persistent.
You could dig a long tunnel in a huge 8km asteroid and wait for an unsuspecting victim to enter, then mount an ambush with your harvesting drill.
Or you could save up supplies for a long time and grab some munitions for your asteroid buster rocket, capable of destroying ANY large asteroid which may house a dangerous asteroid stalker or gutless camper.
Miner Wars 2081 is an action game based around stratagem and creative tactics. Use your cunning, and pick your battles wisely.
Six Axes Combat / FPS in Space - Every ship in the game is fully maneuverable in six directions or "axes". This makes the combat extremely dynamic and exciting. FPS veterans will feel at home with our 'WASD' mouse-and-key setup, and for space simulation fans, your beloved joysticks can be used to their best advantage.
Skill-Based Game - Miner Wars is not about “grinding” your way to the top, it is not about repeating mundane tasks or quests; there is no leveling, only player skill, choice and mental agility factor in.
Wide Variety of Ships - A player can acquire the ship that will most suit his or her needs. There are no restrictions as to which type they choose, but each is advantageous for certain niche aspects of the game, for example: mining purposes, large battles, exploration/scouting, and some for guerrilla-style tactics.
Ships can also be upgraded and ameliorated to provide that added "edge".
Complex Dungeons in Space – Seamless transition between outdoor and indoor areas. The player will be able to enter big asteroid bases and space stations full of enemies - and enemies mean loot. Players will also be able to battle each other in these indoor areas and engage in some truly intense multiplayer battles.
Ship Upgrades - Every ship can be upgraded with a large variety of accoutrement: armour plating, engines, radar systems, maneuvering thrusters, mining equipment and myriad others on offer.
Mining and Exploration - All players can choose to lead the life of a miner or explorer.
There are around 50 compounds, elements and materials that can be mined from an asteroid. Some of them extremely rare and valuable. An explorer can travel around sectors and earn a good bit of coin by giving tips to other players as where best to mine.
Epic Scale Battles - Our 'VRAGE' engine allows for massive and chaotic space battles. Up to 300 player ships can be displayed in one sector, engaging in a viscous torrent for resources and territory.
Looting – In Player vs. Player, you'll have to be careful what you carry and keep your combat skills sharpened. ANY ship in the game can be looted by another player, should it be destroyed. You can either destroy your opponent - either NPC or Player - and receive a smaller salvage. Alternatively, you can temporarily disable your opponent and steal a larger proportion of their equipment and resources.
Factions - There will be around 30 factions in the game. Each faction will have different approaches with regard to reaching their many goals, e.g. explorers, army and militia groups, miners, fanatics, pirates and privateers, etc., or you may choose to form your own ad-hoc crew. Planned for the next release version: Players can become the leader of a faction, should they be elected or succeed in a coup.
Artifacts - Artifacts are ornaments or machine fragments found scattered throughout the Galaxy. Artifacts can only be found by blind chance, there is no existing radar system for locating them. Some have been found at the end of hidden tunnels and trails, others are buried within the depths of rock and debris. The origin and purpose of these artifacts are yet unknown - any information on the matter is purely speculation.
Combination of Single and Multi-Player Elements - Is this mission too difficult? Died a bajillion times and lost too much loot? With just a quick chat you can hire a friend to help you on your quest!
Besides these, they had mentions of great things they wanted to implement in future patches, after lauch... i'm trying to find that link now.
Looks damn cool.. dowloading... thanks for the heads up.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)
I tryied Miner Wars when it had only SP, it was Alpha testing or very very early Beta. Didn't liked it mutch though, how ever it may have improved since then. How ever it was quite fun to fly around and blow rocks up with cannons
Yeah i was debateing this or Xyson but Xyson just seems like its got way more hype behind it and the company is very vocal with its player base.. I remember some people had bad things to say about Miner Wars because they had promised something if you pre ordered the beta then they failed to deliver it.. Only to finnaly give in and include whatever they promised a few days later.. I think thats how it went atleast, there was a thread on it not too long ago.
