I wish that interview was on a site that actually works.
It worked for me.
Thanks for putting this collection together, Kleir; this is some good stuff.

Guns and rifles do not belong in a fantasy MMO. Just killed all my interest in the game.
This is 250 years after the first game. Do you expect them to just go on forever without ever learning any new technology?
They also have printing presses. ... and mechanized irrigation systems. The horror!
They're having a technological revolution currently in the game... the game setting is equivalent to the (fairly long) period of time where people had both swords and guns.
Thats funny, guns and rifles for me turned it from a 'going to buy' to 'first day pre-order'.
Sup.
So you are willing to be hindered by this even if it turns out to be the best thing since silced bread? I can't understand some people's logic...
I actually quite dislike guns in fantasy games, same thing with other inventions that seem out of place. I have gotten used to it tho after playing WoW and WAR. A lot of different things can affect how immersed people feel in a game world. To me instancing is a bigger deal than guns for example, like how GW1 is.
Have you seen the Asuran technology? The world of GW isnt Tolkien'esque fantasy at all. Thank god.
Sup.
Its okay, we like to filter out people like this from playing the game with us

This game is based loosley on the renaissance era. Plenty of guns back then...
Also, cannons existed in GW1.
And then in pretty much every other MMO, gun powder or electricity exists. This goes for WoW, Final Fantasy, Rift, Aion... and so on.
Sorry if GW2 doesnt meet your criteria for a copy and paste tolkien rip off fantasy.
I am going to play Guild Wars 2 not because its a "fantasy game" but because its Guild Wars 2.

Just watched this and found a cool snippet of information I didn't know. I'm not sure if the info is new or not.
"...personality system, the game basically keeps track of the NPCs your interacting with and notes what your personality is like. So if your going around being charming and ferocious to people, it will label you as Scoundrel. And then, if you're a Scoundrel what will happen is occasionally you'll get the chance to do some special things you wouldn't normally get to do if you weren't a Scoundrel."
this is the reason why I always roll a roguish class in MMOs, you get to do things others can't do
You just notice this? They've shown Charr with guns in the concept art.

When you do something right people won't be sure you've done anything at all.
What about it being a fantasy MMO precludes firearms?
Special things = scandalous things I hope : D

Are you saying that because it is a fantasy, the people in the world can't have the intellect to devise things like guns or robots or anything? So people in fantasy worlds are too stupid to invent things? Not to mention the very many fantasy worlds in which there is some level of technology, or steampunk as a subgenre. I am not saying you cannot have your opinion, but if guns are the thing that stops you from liking this games, you have a very narrow view of fantasy, and your opinion makes absolutely no sense to me.

The behaviour of npc's towards you like this isnt bound to the thief but all classes
I agree, this pidgeon-holing is mixed up thinking. It's probably all about tastes, in the end?
But the interesting thing with ArenaNet is that the art and design team are obviously bending-over backwards to try and add twists and creativity and novelty to an over-abused genre? Mixing stuff up, most audaciously eg Asura I think adds a lot of new directions to go along with... that also work most importantly with cool game mechanics.
Eg the Thief repeat double-wielding pistols is cool in combat and can be added to the game's lore as distinct from other IPs

You quoted me, but I'm assuming you're responding to what Polarisation said?

Very much so. You are right, Polar is wrong. I believe it is as simple as that. I figured that since someone else had called Polar out for such a silly thought, I would quote you both to compound the evidence of the incredible shallowness of the assumptions about fantasy.
