RIFT! A fresh start for gamers!

Ok so I'm new to MMORPG.com but I decided to go ahead and write a bit about this new game by TRION called RIFT. I would like to cover the most thought about topics of--------Subscription, Free trial, overall game play, its unique features, whether or not its a potential WoW-killer and followed by my personal opinion of the game. My main discussion will be towards the end explaining why people should just simply but it and play it. All feed back will be appreciated plus any additional comments.

Ok so, The game was released march 1, 2011 in the USA. It can be bought from gamestop, walmart, or even online from TRION's website. Its not hard to get ahold of. First month of subscription is included with a $15 monthly fee after that. It runs around $50 right now and has special payment options atm for like a 3 month payment plan for about $13 a month versus $15. So as far as payment, subscription and getting the game, its average of your typical new mmo. A free trial is not yet released and probably wont be for at least 6 months.

I saw alot of videos on RIFT and listened to what players had to say and decided to pick it up myself. I use to play WoW, runescape, Xbox mmo's, final fantasy and TONS of others that im not going to list. The game has 6 races with a MAJOR amount of customizationl, both in character appearance as well as the particular paths you choose to take for your classes. The game follows the "Soul" system which is the same as that of WoW's talents. The game has decent graphics, is easy to understand, and entertained me for hours before i decided to take a break.

I believe every good game is a potential WoW killer. If the creators took their time and made sure that the game was balanced, fun and in good, working condition, the game will surely have potential. As long as the game doesnt have major speed bumps it should attract a good number of players. From what i have seen so far, RIFT has all the traits necessary. The problem with a game killing WoW is that WoW is simple to play, doesnt take a gaming computer, works entirely and appeals to kids. Many people have huge things about WoW that they hate but they still choose to play it due to its large environment and ease of play. Whenever sometime decides to criticize an MMO or give opinions on it, they are most of the time comparing the game to WoW. If you compare every game to WoW then WoW will never have competition. RIFT is a fresh, new game offering a fresh new start and a fresh new change from WoW. Just play it! It has lots of room for expansion and is backed by a good, hard working company.

As far as RIFT's unique features. Your class specs can be completely customized. You can have a warrior that casts, wields 2 handers, dual wields, is strictly defensive, strictly offensive etc. Its pretty endless as far as what you can due with the main tiers of warrior, rogue, cleric and mage. The games unique class specification systems allow 3 main branches with souls and that really caught my attention. Its like having a death knight with blood, frost and unholy and being able to put the points wherever you want. And those three braches arent even half of what you can have per character. The games rift system was also a big attention grabber. Players can take part in little minigames known as rifts with random players and be fighting and earning rewards/exp in a matter of seconds. It's a clever interesting game feature that i enjoy. It kinda gives the player something to do rather than  just run around and quest non stop. That to me is boring.

The bottom line is Instead of judging RIFT and comparing it to WoW, play it! The more players it has the more the Dev's will expand it, the more money they make, the more they suit the players wants/needs and the list goes on and on. They have to have the players which=the money. Nobody will leave WoW and therfore There can be no "WoW killer". Just play the game people. Take a fresh new step into a new game and work your way up all over again. If this game is given a chance, it can be the WoW killer. Or people can choose not to play it and instead wait for the next big MMO and decide all over again between it and WoW. The choice is yours players. Im going RIFT.

I agree with most of your post op except I could care less if this game is a "wow killer" or not.  I'm playing it now and having fun.

"people should just simply buy it and play it"

I think you should wait till there is a free trial if there ever is one.

Was my thought as well . . especially when you start with where you can buy it.  After that it seemed okay but that first part seemed a little . . well . . . off.  No offense to the OP.  Not saying that is what it is. . just that it has that felling to it.

We have over 9,000 first time posters for Rift, it goes both ways. I see a lot of bashers who make another account for the sole purpose of being the only girl without a date for prom. I think a real PR/Add internet person would be a bit more subtle. Hopefully it's just a regular with a sense of irony.

P.S. It is a fun game though.

In reality the game doesn't need this at all... something like this doesn't sway people to play or not play. If you believe complete stangers posting opinions on the internet then I got a bridge in the Sahara I can sell you. :)

Lol i don't work for them. And I've just been coming to this site for awhile and reading and decided to try and yeah it should only matter whether you have fun or not. It really is just simply a GAME after all. But for the people who are hoping for something new to play and to head up the ladder with WoW,heres a shot for it. If you play it and hate it then WoW is sitting right where you left it. The Dev's need the players to advance. Just like a restaurant relies on customers. People played Aion and kept looking at its negatives based on its comparison to WoW and i mean now Aion is free to play because of it. They have to bust their ass or make another MMO and retry. I'm not gonna lie though, Blizzard has it going on and theyre very good at what they do. But if RIFT gets the players they can surely make adjustments, advance and work their way up the MMO ladder. People play WoW lots of times just because it has a mass amount of people and that makes it easy to just play the game. I appreciate the comments guys.

Or people can choose not to play it and instead wait for the next big MMO and decide all over again between it and WoW. The choice is yours players. Im going RIFT.

Why must the choice be between a new MMO or WoW? There is more than just WoW and while that has a large overall playerbase, their are more playing other MMO's.

Rift is a good game but there is nothing fresh about it. I was enjoying it but the game burned out so quickly for me. The main problem in my opinion is it does everything good but nothing exceptional.

Seems like a really "Bad" hard sell on Rift. It seems your main point to buy Rift is because its New and Trion will make lots of money and expand it, by the way all MMO's work that way its not new, and it will eventually kill WoW.

I played in Beta's 5,6 and 7 with multiple toons to the 20's and 4 different classes and paid to have a second spec so I could change back and forth. The only thing I didnt get involved in was the Crafting.

The souls/talent changes are kind of nice but I forsee everyone running the same specs/trees/souls if they are going to raid which is a real turn off. If you dont care about high level instances or any raiding you can spec/soul anyway you want and enjoy yourself im sure.

My opinion is if you like the WoW playstyle and are looking for a change from Azeroth ( which is why Trion uses it as a selling point in all their ads ) but dont want to learn anything new then Rift is for you. Its not a challenge and you will have some fun for about 2/3 months exploring some of the different souls/specs.

The problem with those Mix of Souls is you 'll still find yourself using the same keys over and over. Those souls you sink more pts into will be your main focus and your lesser soul trees will be of little matter. Its really no change from the 3 Trees in WoW, its just packaged in a better looking box. Once you get all the paper off and pull out those crappy popcorn fillers its the same thing. I really wished you at least had the option of pulling one soul from another class.. like Beast/Paragon/Justicar... that would make a much more interesting game.

    Enjoy your experience in Rift.

I'll be waiting for a different experience.

Well I didn't mean to sound like an employee of TRION so i appologize and to the guy with the opinionated bridge comment, look at what you wrote. Like you said It's a comment dude. Theres nothing to BELIEVE there. Its Just opinions. And all I want to see is people break away from WoW and start a new game. I hate the characters in WoW, its childish and its basically a monopoly. Im not an employee of TRION and like i said these are just my opinions. Taking them into thought is everyones free choice.

Actually I think what made the post stand out to some is that you said the game was from TRION and mentioned the company first before the game.  As for the quote above this forum is full of people looking for a game to play.  Comanies, I am sure, have people here posting things to try to get people to play.  Someone might read a "player" review if they are on the fence and decide to buy.

People have the freedom to act on your words or not freely. . and of course people are free to call out what they think they see in your post.

Rift is a great game for people who love WoW but are tired of the world characters . . classes etc.  If it had come out a few years ago (3 maybe) I might have played it myself.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!

Hey man I was commenting on the other 2 comments. I wasn't saying anything bad about what you were saying. They were claiming you don't believe what you wrote that  it was all just rhetoric to promote a game aka. a big conspiracy. My point was the post was sincere because the game doesn't need you or I to promote it.

Trion has dumped a ton in to advertising if you don't believe that turn on TV and all over gaming sites on the web. I haven't heard or seen so much ads for a MMO ever.

Thats the only issue I have with the post. I comes off as an advertisement. He even tells you to "just go buy it and play it."

If you find someone who bashes games in their review it sounds like they come from another MMO company?

Either way you cant go right, you are either advertising, or bashing cause you want em to not "game jump".

And if your not either of that, you certainly are a fanboi, a themeparklover or a sandmacroboxbitch (also refered to as a SMBB).

And if not one of those, then you are just insecure and cant make up your mind.

    Or?

lolwut, I thought that the 3 different Rift Advertisement in mmorpg.com were enough

    "It has potential"
-Second most used phrase on existence
    "It sucks"
    -Most used phrase on existence

To put it simply. Don't tell me what to do or how I should spend my money. If you want to give an opinion I don't have any problems with that.

As for trying to pin me as some kind of Themepark/Sandbox fanboi I like both. I have said plenty of times if you like Rift I'm happy for you. Enjoy it. It's not my cup of tea.

Don't know where your going or coming from on that last part.

    Or what?

But that is exactly what you did....you read his post and labled him...now you are saying 'Don't label me!'

That was the point of his post. Someone can't say something nice or not so nice about a game without being labeled. So what is your label? Or are you the only one that can hand them out.

lol I'm not the one that said he worked for TRION. I just said that the person that did might be on to something. Later I was just trying to say that the OP comes across more like a paid advertisement than a player's opinion.
