I've been think about something.
That something is, when it gets closer to the release, what (if there will be) will their commercial be like?
Now, i want to know what you guys think
What do you think the commercail will be like? What do you think the commercial should have in it?
What i think is that it should have the concept art, and then have the concept art turn into the actual characters in the game. IDK if that makes sence to you guys but to me it does.
EDIT at 5:49: The things in the GREEN are what i want you guys to answer. THANKS!

uh mayby i cant remember one for gw1..but ya never know
Gameplay, not like they did with the first, a comple cgi movie that has nothing to do with the actual game. I like the idea of the concept art. Maybe one that has some concept art, since it is the theme of the game, and thne go into a display of the races or maybe the elder dragons.
It will probubly either be the teaser trailer, or be a new trailer that follows that theme at a larger, more epic scale.
I can see that. But what do you think could make it "larger" and be at a "more epic scale"? I just want to know what you mean by that.
To be honest, I have no idea. However, I'm sure there will be a teaser and that it will look great. And at the mention of the word epic only Chuck Norris comes to mind.
What cgi movie is that? cant remember seeing any cgi of gw before

And for Factions the one here:

I actually liked those Trailers (although the first one had hardly anything to do with the game itself)
If you're reading this site, it's a good indication that you personally don't need any more incentive in form of advertisment to play the game.
I also think that the game can be played in such a way (if it's remotely like GW1) that it won't matter if 1k or 1M people buy it. You'll have a great experience either way.
So I wouldn't worry about advertisment. I'd worry more about word of mouth and how this game will be rated once it's released and people get to actually play it, instead of talk about it's awesome conspeptual developer ideas.
I personally quite liked the Prophecies and Factions CGI trailers.
I would prefer if Anet does not have a mass media commercial going across hundreds of TV stations. Why you ask? Because the cost of advertising in the traditional mass market is expensive, most companies spend a ¼ of their profit on mass market advertisement. I would rather have that ¼ of Anets money used to make new expansions or for making the game better. They could use viral marketing like they did with War in Kytra and save themselves a bunch of money. If they do any mass marketing I would rather them make a trailer and pay to put it on gaming websites then to have them spend the mass amounts of money to get a trailer on hundreds of cable channels. But if they make a solid game, viral marketing can accomplish as much or more than a mass market strategy (hence why mass marketing is slowly dying, IE McDonalds in the last two years has cut their TV ad budget in half and are putting that money into other types of marketing. If you want proof of this there are many books out there with the information showing companies moving away from mass marketing).
A great example for gaming and MMOs in general is WoW, in fall of 2007 Blizzard did their first major mass market TV ads, the MR. T, William Shanter, and Verne Troyer commercials. In July 2007 Blizzard publically announced their subscription numbers at 9 million worldwide. Blizzard reached 9 million players worldwide without a mass media advertisement campaign. That right there is proof enough that you do not need to spend millions on TV commercials for your product to become known and extremely popular. In fact viral marketing has always been better at that then a TV advertisement. Want proof, ask yourself are you more likely to see a movie when a friend says it the best movie ever, or when you see a trailer on Comedy Central?
sadly CGI trailers makes the most (considering sheep players) but ANet is against it so we wont see any most probably...any other advertisement in game industry seems counterproductive
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
I wouldn't say they're that much against it, at least they haven't always been as the GW Factions trailer shows. I can vaguely recall having seen it on tv commercials too.

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Trying to market an MMO to an MMO player in a commercial is a fruitless effort and Its my knowledge that most people who would play a new MMO have played one before and said MMO players know that a 45 sec commercial is as useful to judging a game as the reviews on the box. Now that said, commercials have never not fleshed out the market for customers so what is the best way to market useless information to an audiance that would already know about the game anyways?
-Hype
-Wild Claims
-Fast Pace Action
-Viral Media
Why this? So that the people who are youtubing the commercial will want to show their friends who don't know about the game.
Rift had the money for commericals, I'm sure GW2, with a flow of money from GW, will have enough money for commercials.
It will probably be short teasers, like the thief teaser http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7AxVtaQR-g
That teaser alone is an okay commercial, good structure with the epic ending.
It may be something like that with an elder dragon at the end, and flashes of epic scenes.
"Many have eyes, but few have seen." - Goddess Lyssa
That could be too. But, from what i know, they were all big into their concept art thing. So maybe they will include some of that too.
Concept art isn't gonna attract as many gamers as they want. Its a few second long commercial, they show off graphics, visuals, and epicly large scaled events...

How is anybody supposed to have the foggiest idea what the launch trailer is going to be like?
how are they going to show "epicly large scale events..." in "a few second long commercial"? I can see your point on the concept art. and them showing off their garaphics and visuals. But, they wont be able to have anything that big.
BUT at the end, after they show their graphics, they can have that guild wars 2 thing come up and then show the shatterer. THAT would be cool.
Were just listing ideas for what they could do. WE DONT KNOW THE REAL THING YET THOUGH.

Scenes in this video are just examples of what they could chop into few second clips. Put in some intense work of Jeremy Soule, with a big bang at the end and you got yourself a commercial.

I'm all for speculation, but we literally have nothing to work with, here.
It has ceiling and basement cat in a super fight, witch gonna generate a explosion with DOUBLE RAINBOW ALL THE WAY to Tackery who gonna say "hide your kids, hide your wife, the dragons are raping everybody here" and in the end u have Charlie Sheen in top of Zaitan with a banner "I´m winning".
'NUFF SAID!
now: GW2 (11 80s).
Dark Souls 2.
future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
"Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
I know we have nothing to work with. Its just people listing ideas.
I like that idea.
If i didn't even know what GW2 was and i saw that commercial, i would be like " hey, that looks like a kick-ass game!"
