I've been wanting to play a First Person Medieval with realistic combat mechanics for awhile. Like you shoot an arrow and it really flies through the air. However, the only games I can think of are Darkfall or Oblivion. I hate pretty much everything about Darkfall and Oblivion is old and tired now.
If anyone has any suggestion, I would be forever grateful.

The new mount and blade will release soon I suppose. You don't seem to be looking for an MMO right?
Doesn't matter either way.
I do kinda want an RPG though.

Either Morrowind or Dark messiah of might and magic.
Mmo or Solo rpg well i say Darkfall all the way but you hate everything about Darkfall so choice seems logical.
I say take up morrowind(even older) instead its superior to oblivion.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Morrowind + MGE = godmode
Generation P
well nobody else said it so i will:
Mortal Online
....yea it's a work in progress but it's closes thing to Oblivion and DF on the market right now.
PS: MO is a pvp sandbox mmo, so not much rpg. think of an "Oblivion like" first person view DF with absolutely no quests.
Mount & Blade Warband is probably right up your alley. Think of it as a mix of Oblivion with something from the Total War series and Sid Meier's Pirates!
Like others I say Morrowind which is way better Oblivion.
If you can get past the outdated graphics that's the game for you..............or just wait for The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim (Mount and Blade is a good option too)
Outside Oblivion itself, Morrowind, which is Oblivion's predecessor, is out there. It's a very, very different feel from Oblivion but it still has a nice, big area to explore. Not to mention fan mod support after all these years.
Someone also mentioned Mount & Blade, and I will second that any day of the week. The Vanilla game sets you in a medieval setting. There is no magic. Think of the setting as a fictional Medieval Europe. Lots of ways to play and fight. Charsimatic leader to lead your own group of warriors? Merchant? Cavalryman? Infantry? Archer? Crossbows? Etc. You can even recruit special NPCs that slowly progress in ability and outfit them with gear that you acquire.
A big point that Mount & Blade pulls off is mounted combat. Whether with spear, sword, mace, lance, or even with bows. You can do it. But watch out for disciplined, packed infantry. You won't run down infantry that are properly formed together.
There's regular Mount and Blade and Mount and Blade: Warband, which is the most recent release. There's supposed to be another coming out soon.
Also, it's got quite a bit of mod support by the fans.

I am kind of in the same boat, doing mount&blade: warband its great and I have been looking for something similar for sometime now. Anyone go info on the new mount&blande? Or anything like it?
always Mortal Online? And there is now a trial for it. But I really cannot think of other guys like that....
You should try Fallout series its pretty much like oblivion ( same developer). try to see it on youtube if you like it.
Mount and blade warband dude..Most epic battles u ll see in rpg..Some battles i had in this game are simply unforgetable..having 110 men vs 350 enemies chargung the field with your mount cavalry infantry archers...its the best medieval fights simulator u ll find...Archery btw is even better than oblivions...
I love first person archery, unfortunetely I think the only games that offer it are the crapsacks DF and MO.
I would have to agree that for an Oblivion type game, Morrowind will give you many, many.... many hours of exploration, questing, fighting, dying, etc.. It's often been referred to as an offline MMO, it's so huge. You can also pretty much play any way you want to. You can be the hero, completing every quest, doing every good deed. You can be a villain, robbing and killing every NPC along the way. You can follow the main storyline, you can completely avoid the main storyline. It's simply a fantastic game that I don't think any RPG fan should pass up.
I also concur 100% with everyone here. Morrowind is definitely a superior game to Oblivion. Oblivion has the graphics... Morrowind, in my opinion, has everything else.
I don't know how Skyrim will turn out, but hopefully it's closer to Morrowind than it is to Oblivion.
I haven't played them yet, but from what I've read/heard, the Gothic game series is int he same category as Oblivion/Morrowind...
Another option is Fallout 3. Brilliant game. Very similar to Oblivion and Morrowind in gameplay terms... open world, non-linear, etc.. but set in a post-apocalyptic setting.
For an online MMO in that "style" or feel.. Mortal Online is similar.. though a lot clunkier and kinda struggling.
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
And Daggerfall is superior to both Morrowind and Oblivion imo, so op if you can take that kind of gfx try Daggerfall, its deeper than the other two and much much bigger.
With Daggerfall having been released in '96 (according to wikipedia), you have to appreciate the effort put into the game due to the scope and scale of the playable game world.
It was my first RPG I ever played on the PC platform with all my previous experiences on consoles (Genesis, Sega Master System, Playstation, etc.). I made my character, saw some mumbling about a central story which I never cared about (and I still don't recall even the faintest idea of it to this day). More importantly, I asked my friend what was I supposed to do. He just said, "Just play the d*mn game."
Pick a direction, go, and you'll find stuff to do. More importantly, it got me thinking on exactly what I *can* do in the game. I was having fun handling things on a region until I took a better, longer look on the map and saw exactly how big the game world was. Basically, I was overjoyed with the immense world I can explore. It was all my playground.

imo, best thing in Mount and Blade is horse archery.
Well, you can try Morrowind...
Thanks for all the suggestions. My favorite games of all time are Fallout 1 & 2 (and Tactics) and I can't stand the garbage that is 3. NV was ok, but I've already played it.
I may check out Mount and Blade, though it really doesn't draw me in because it's just medieval and no fantasy. If I get bored enough some time in the future, I'll definitely check it out.
I've also played every game in the Elder Scrolls series.

So you thought Oblivion was a good TES game but thought FO3 was a bad FO game?

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
Yeah, but Elder Scrolls is no where near the top of my list of favorite games. lol

Games like them? Deus Ex games are kinda similar...
Honsetly FO3 was just as good as any other Fallout game, I like New Vegas more but in some ways I feel a better connection to three, I miss being "The Wastelander / The Wanderer / The Vault Dweller" which is very Clint Eastwood and its also very Fallout. I feel like Fallout is like future western, always was a huge CE fan.
You know that NV story/setting is actually the original FO3 planned by Black Isle, right?
I felt very disconnected and restricted in FO3, where as NV seemed to draw me in. I didn't find out that it was based on the original plans for FO3, until after I had beaten the game.

I hated the setting and the storyline of NV tbh... I really liked the gameplay more though.
I enjoyed the stoyline setting of 1 and 2 and 3, but NV seemed like it was fan service to FO 1 and 2, which I really enjoyed but I mean there is something magical about the whole "vault" thing and I felt like NV didn't really have much to do with vaults except as sorta quest locations. That and the vaults in NV didn't really hit me as creepy or interesting as the others.
