Is it really neccassary?
I understand they want to make the game realistic but come on, I think playability should come before that.
I just got the trial downloaded, but I'm not even gonna try playing right now because I don't feel like bumbling around while staring at a black screen.
I think maybe they should at least give new players a torch. I know they're only 100c, but how the hell am I supposed to get that when I can't see anything to make money?

Do as the rest of the player base, logout and play some TF2 or something till the game is playable again:P SV got quite a way to go in terms of user friendly design, they aint any good at finding balance between it and hardcore aspects of the game so far.
Whats wrong with using a torch? Thats the way it is meant, you know! Try it and you will see it is not pitch black any more!
The problem is the same as it was on day one. People just adjust their gamma settings to see everything while you run around in the dark unable to see. There is a great discussion on this topic found here:

If you read my "Journey back" thread you will see screens of the blackness as well as my opinions on it. I hate how NPCs stand around in total darkness inside their huts etc... it totally breaks immersion.
