Has it ever occured to you mmoplayers that people want wow 2.0 with new skins and not innovative mmorpgs???? They just want to have fun playing mmorpg. There are potential players that just want a ew skin of wow, lotro gameplay and rift is a perfect example of why mmorpg players refuse for any changes or innovative products.

Just look at MO, darkfall, and other sandbox games its not as successful as rift now does it?

Why cant you people see?

THis just proves that mmoplayers who wants to see innovative gameplay or sandbox games are in the minority here.

just look what happen to earthrise, mo, darkfall, and other sandbox games.

Isn't it funny that the only examples of games you can come up with are those that suck... unpolished turds with shitty graphics, an unholy amount of bugs, and sub-par gameplay through and through.

People want games that don't suck.

This is a place for MMORPG players who have no game to play....they come here, miserable, because theyre favorite game died (the WoW Migration probably killed it one way or another ....cough NGE....cough).

People who actually have a game they like....are probably playing it and not hanging out here much. So yea, we have a lot of bitter, homeless MMORPG'ers here.

Misery loves company....now, this is a mild exaggeration in the interests of humor...but at some level its not completely off the mark.

While I don't completely disagree, the sandbox games you mention all have one serious drawback for me; full-loot PvP. Even open- world PvP would turn me off. I liked everything about Xsyon except the open PvP. Maybe I'm not the only one who would like a sandbox where we cooperate instead of killing each other. Just a thought.

your argument is your own opinion. I don't want WoW 2.0. I played WoW for 2 years so I'm good; I enjoyed my time but I am done. I also play EvE online and, here and there, Fallen Earth. Darkfall was fun, I played for about 3 months but the game was not for me. WAR failed miserably. I couldn't really get into AoC but it was fun. I do play Aion here and there when I need a break from one MMO. Lotro and Allods is fun for F2P when I want a break. And I really enjoy RIFT, a lot. Maybe people want an Everquest 1 2.0? I mean...WoW, again, was not the first MMO. Why the rant?

I think there is room for everything and for everyone which means diversity for all types of gamers. The same applies for music. I prefer The Flaming Lips over Britney Spears. Led Zepplin over White Snake. I prefer smaller breasts over large breast. And I prefer skinny females over larger females. I like Betty page hair styles. I prefer Age of Conan over WoW. It really doesn't matter. People will make thier choices based on what they like. As a cow once said "my fellow cows keep going in but there not coming out of that buidling...I am not going along with that".

I guess you get it wrong....

People want changes, but not that HARSH ones.

Comparing Rift, WoW, Lotro ,etc to MO, Darkfall and most Sandboxes is just wrong. They are different in concept and purpose, they are still mmos, but the similarty stops here.

I do agree the majority still wants WoW 2.0, but with lots of improovments and new Ideas, not a Sandbox type.

Thats because sandboxes tends to be more difficult/complex, a great sandbox mmo has deep mechanics and thoughtful features, different from the Mainstream model, which uses simpler mechanics due acessibility. Look at crafting for example, compare Mortal Online crafting to Lotro crafting.

The most successful sandbox in the market is EVE, look how many subs it holds, not even close to 1/4 of WoWs subs.

It always seems that people looking for a new MMO besides WoW never want to try sandbox games. They are completely different but are a lot of fun. They are also, imo, not that great to play while in school since they are more complex. Currently I play RIFT and I resubbed to EvE. EvE is a lot of fun, just takes plenty of time and patience.....a lot of patience. There will never be a WoW 2.0, techinically speaking.

The reason those games, specifically MO and Earthrise are not super popular is not because it was not what people wanted, it was because technically they were poorly made games.  Both games suffer greatly from bad programmers, possible lack of funding, and general bad management.  Their ideas are great, execution is poor.  The people with the money see how popular WoW is and want to emulate it, so they dump money into projects that try to copy WoW.  It's pretty simple.

So what exactly was the point of your post other than to basically say those who don't like WoW are wrong. Honestly WoW is mostly an EQ clone with easier progression and better learning curve.

I didn't like WoW 1.0, lots of people did/do and great for them, but I think there is plenty of room in the market place for other kinds of games.

also those of you who are old mmoplayers form the uo era and eq era are a dying breed in this mmo market.

I guess going after those wow players was a smart move because you know there are those millions o potential players that you could get.

im thinking perhaps the days of uo, and eq are done in this industry. and new breed of mmoplayers whos played wow as first mmo are the future subscribers you want to get and no going after such a small niche market.

The problem I have with game like the WoW clones are the problem people have with Farmville.  They attract people who didn't "grow up" with this genre and learn from history and past mistakes.  There's an entire generation of players who grew up on WoW that never had to experience the thrill of running around naked after getting killed and looted on your way to your house in a game like UO.

You start taking away things like fast-travel and they complain.  You start adding things like open PvP and they gripe endlessly on forums.  You add things like full-loot and they leave the game.

They spent the last 5-6 years playing a game in which they could obtain anything and never have to take a loss or pay a high price for a stupid decision.  You introduce these players to the more hardcore games like EVE and more recently, Xsyon and they piss on the idea of being given some freedom to choose how they can play a game... or penalized for palying it poorly.  They're like 5th generation cattle on a factory farm, who don't realize what an open range is and never want to leave their pens.

The publishers and devlopers who produce and support games like this only feed those fears with each game they release that follows the WoW pattern.

WoW really isn't an EQ clone, otherwise you'd be spending 99% percent of your time in a group, cluttered together next to some player-defined demarcation line pulling mobs over and over again until your eyes bled.

Yay more kiddies spouting Rift as a huge success. Some advice for you, learn some MMO History. Nearly EVERY "AAA" MMO that has released in the past 5 or so years was a "huge success" the first montht the game was out. Then reality started setting in, everyone realised "hey this is just WoW in a new skin, why not just go back to WoW or move on to something different since thats what we thought this was to begin with" and the subscription numbers plummet. Before putting Rift up on a pedestal as the 2nd coming of Jesus: The MMO. you might want to wait until its out more than a few weeks. Come back in a year and if they keep anywhere near the numbers they have now as a brand new game, then youll have some ground to stand on.
