So I just figured I'd ask the general community this since I can't find an answer myself. I tried to play FFXI a while back, but when I tried to make an account on PlayOnline my debit card was rejected. When I inquired about this it was because MasterCard considers PlayOnline to be an online gambling site. Anyone else run into this problem? If so, how to get around it because I'm pretty interested in trying out the game.

Did you call up your card compnay? I think you answered this question though. What about paypal or prepaid credit cards?

Yeah...I think that is BS. Whoever told you that was probably misinformed or just giving a best guess.
I use a Mastercard debit card as well. I had troubles registering one time. It was near billing time, I think that's why. As with so many aspects of Playonline, I would say try agian another time. I have played FFXI many times, and some days things just don't flow the way they should on Playonline. Try again.
I try again every now and then, but it always says that I can't register with that card. And I've talked to my bank, and I called MasterCard, and they both said that I can't do it. I guess I'm just boned then. Oh well. Maybe it's weird cause I got it on Steam though I can't see how that makes a difference.
Your credit card has to have the 3D security, Mastercard Securecode feature. And if it does have it you have to go through the process of setting up your username/pin code for it before you use it on Playonline. To do this you'll need to go to the website for your specific type of Mastercard.
Try checking out this thread on the official forums:

If that doesn't work your last resort can be calling Square, the customer support will take your info and register it for you on their end.

No I have that all set up, but it still won't accept the card. It says to check whether it is valid (it is). I think I will call PlayOnline though and see what they have to say.
