Aint sure what kind of class/souls i will choose

nankoeknankoek Member UncommonPosts: 17

Hi guys,

I'am going to buy Rift this day probably or tomorrow but i aint sure wich class and souls i would chose.

I want to mainly DPS and offspec healing if possible. (No rogue's because IRL mate will roll that class) and i dont like to dot dot dot fear run (affliction warlock WoW style)

Anyone got any suggestions wich i should pick or wich class/soul i definitly shouldnt pick because they suck/underpowered something like that.

Thanks.

Well, Rogue has the Bard class which has a multitude of buffs and some pretty decent healing attached. Mage has the Chloromancer soul which is, in terms of heals per second, the best healer in the game right now. I believe the closest Warrior has is the Warlord class which has buffs. And, of course, Cleric has a multitude of ways to heal with enough souls left over to melee dps or ranged dps.

There are three classes that can currently heal:

    • Clerics (Sentinel with a focus on AoE, Warden with a focus on HoTs, Purifier with a focus on single target heals. These are the pure healing souls. Justicar heals by doing damage, but the amount is not comparable to pure healing souls)

    • Mages (Choromancer heals by doing damage. He is considered a main healer as well)

    • Rogues (Bards can AoE HoT and buff. Not as strong as as the main healers above, but very handy to cut down on spike damage and amazing in raid PvP or PvE.

All classes have pure DPS souls.

In case you eventually want to tank, Warriors, Rogues and Clerics can fill that role.

I wouldn't heed any advice for FOTM builds at this point, you get four roles to cover different situation and challenges. There are no overpowered builds as of yet. Some are just easier to play and some are more suited to certain situations than others.

Cleric with Justicar and Shaman combo.

Shaman for the dps and Justicar for the Righteous Mandate. This will make it a cool class to combo with your friend, spamming all your overheals straight upon him.

I'm running this combo with my brother (he is mage) and it is working like a charm.

Now for your 3rd soul it depends.

We are on a pvp server and roam the world a lot. I've equipped the pvp soul so people attacking us are in for a nice surprise.

If you do not want/need this you can choose whatever third soul you deem fit by just looking at the base abilities you get and pick the one you like most.

But don't worry you got several roles, enough to mix and match to your harts content.

Ok thanks mate, i will try that out!, yea well the friend of mine loves pvp so we would defo go to a PVP server :) the 3rth soul you can change always right?

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

For DPS cleric you might want to consider druid more. He has comparable damage to shaman, but more PvP tricks and buffs up his sleave. Pets are a nice addition too. The first healing faerie is a bit of a joke, the second one does a reasonable job hotting everyone in a raid and the satyr is a 15% moving melee damage boost.

For PvE I found the faerie more durable, the satyr has low survivability and can't keep extra mobs occuppied the way the faerie does.

The problem with pets in general is that they seem to be a bigger mob aggro than the players themselves, if you try to navigate in between aggressive mobs.

    Edit:

You can change all souls actually and make whatever combination of 3 souls out of the 9 total per calling you wish.

Have a look at a tree builder. The 8 souls you get via questing (the first 3 you should have when leaving the tutorial area). The PvP soul needs pvp favor.

You can have several roles wich contain different class combos.

There is an option to reset your soles, so basically enabling you to equip other combos.

This has a small cost at the npc ofcourse.

    Have fun ...

Edit: Look at X's post just above me, more info there.

    Btw I hate pets ;)

Yeah started with that one, but switched the Warden for the pvp soul.

You get a nice "kick" with that soul :) Hurles the enemy a couple of yards yonder.

The game helps you make the decision by recommending what paths go well with your selection.

I just bought the game this past weekend and I am trying out different combos to see which one I want to stay with.  So far the Druid, justicar and shaman (I think thats the combo) I am enjoying the most.  Little squishy at times, but it makes you more cautious pickng your fights.

Plus, I love my little fairy with her cute little taataa's.  ;-)

Remark: The kick (Waterjet) comes with the Warden role.

My cleric @ lvl 28 now but got one up to 35ish during beta.

Also created a rogue for pure pvp.

    50 here.

If you choose the cleric, I would suggest that the three first souls are not all dps as recommended. I don't see the need for tanking until level 13 which the remaining soul quests become available, but you might want to do some serious healing in a rift situation and the dps soul "heals" won't cut it.

If you prefer melee, then I'd pick either shaman or druid or both. Justicar is a third decent choice, but the soul is build to survive and you shouldn't have these kind of problems this early. Justicar is also the tanking soul (once you get the mien of leadership buff, I think at level 15).

I would definitely pick sentinel as the third choice. That free zero points instant cast heal is a lifesaver in sticky situations all the way to max level. Also keep in mind that spellpower is directly converted to attack power for melee clerics, so the best spellpower weapons provide the most damage. Don't lock yourself in maces only, unless you are using the Justicar buffs.

For casters, it depends on gameplay, they both play similarly at the beginning. Cabalist starts fleshing out as an AoE caster later on while inquisitor is a DoTer.

Regarding weapons and armor. I would pick chain only, especially if you roll on a PvP server for the obvious survivability benefits. For weapons, anything that doesn't have wisdom in it is junk for you. Don't be fooled by the dps on the weapon, it's wisdom and spellpower that you want. If you want to see how big an upgrade that weapon or armor is, open your character screen, and under your stats check the attack power and spellpower. Pure dps weapons with str, dex etc give much worse results for clerics. The same thing is true for shields, ours have wisdom in it.

Do not dismiss staves as a viable two hand weapon. As I said, spellpower is your attack power as a melee cleric. When things are marginal, wisdom provides a bigger bonus than intelligence though (1 wisdom is equal to 5 intelligence for us, empirically speaking). For the same reason, combination of maces and totems can be better than dual handers on occassions.

Dps and offspec healing sounds like you will want a cleric. Cleric dps is currently pretty amazing.

If you want a ranged dps spec I would suggest something like Inquisitor/Cabalist/Sentinel which will give you ranged and aoe nukes and some heals.

  • nankoeknankoek Member UncommonPosts: 17

    @ Xasapis wow gg.

Well i prefer not to be a DoT/AoE caster, so i would go for melee

so you suggest me at the start to main spec shaman/druid other souls: warden+sentinel?

And thanks for the tips that SP converts AP.

Edit: i searched for more information and i came to this conclusion as a great lvling setup

    Shaman/Justicar/Sentinel

    Or

    Shaman/Justicar/Warden
