I really like the way the rifts work, while far from perfect they were at least fun.BUT the size and spread was too small i thought.
I like large choatic battles,and even in the case of the multiple rifts and rift bosses,the numbers of invaders were just too small to satisfy.Now someone told me they upped the spawn per stage at the rifts since the beta,im curious if this is accurate.....

I didn't play in beta, but I can tell you I logged on last night at about 11pm eastern and the entire freemarch area was swarmed by death rifts. Spent 2 hours running around slaughtering undead and closing rifts. It was a blast.
don't know much more than that though.
Rifts are dynamic.
Both in that more of them spawn when there are more people in the zone, and also in that they spawn more mobs per stage depending on how many people are participating in closing the rift.
They may have tweaked the calculations a bit, but I have definitely noticed when in the higher zones, that the rifts spawned less often and spawned less mobs until more players started leveling up and getting into said zone and helping out with closing rifts.
