The official Facebook page for Star Wars: The Old Republic has been updated, as has the official website, with new information for guilds. The Bioware team has now provided the tools and a place for guilds to get registered and to reserve names prior to SWTOR's launch.
Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of the new Guild Headquarters (HQ) as well as the Pre-Launch Guild Program. Many members of the community have already been organizing guilds on the forums, and we’re now happy to provide the tools to officially register and reserve your guild’s name. In this new section of the website, you can search for an existing guild to join or you can create a new guild and begin recruiting members. When Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ launches, you may be able to import your guild directly into the game, subject to availability and meeting certain criteria*.
To learn more about guilds in The Old Republic, check out the Guilds Game System page for details, and to search for or join a guild, visit the Guild HQ now! Also be sure to visit the Guilds FAQ for answers to commonly asked questions.

anyone forming a sith guild? Woot good news. Hmm wouldn't this sort mean this game is coming out soon?
In Bioware we trust!
I may be being to optimistic, but it seems to me this speaks well for a release in the short term future. Maybe that Spring 2011 target date still is good after all.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
Interesting point about the guild alignment system in the faq:
"This phase introduces a new, optional system that allows your guild to mark other guilds as allies or adversaries. When the game launches, these designations will influence which guilds are placed on the same server.
*We will make reasonable efforts to place as many qualifying groups of allies and adversaries as possible together on the same server."

Well its comming and comming soon if were getting that. To bad we dont have pre orders ready to go so I can lock in on 4 copies for me the wife and the kids.
Oh man, I gotta say: Bioware is smart I have yet to see a MMO going to this length with guild process.

People are on drugs if you think this means the game is "about" to launch. This represents absolutely NO indication of things being on the verge of going live. If anything, it only affirms that we are not seeing this launch until September or so. They will want to survey the volume of guilds forming, size of memberships, etc, then start planning on server types. None of which happens in less than several months.
If this gives hint to anything, it would be speculation that the eventual open beta might involve rolling out a full slate of servers. And that is almost certainly months away.

arnt you just a big ball of sunshine.. i agree that it dosnt mean anything on release but no need to bring people down to ur level.. let em have fun talking about it since the last few updates have sucked i think people needed this.
{mod edit}
Spot on.
Hopefully PAX gives us even better info on the release date.
Excellent news.
Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."
Ehm... I didn't find that last week's update with the full bounty hunter class update, PAX revelation and book reveal sucked.
Maybe different expectations, I guess.

the game could be pushed back still .. all you did was preorder a picture.
Yep it has to point to release coming soon!
If you take a look at it now, its chock full of 1-person guilds. People are just using it to reserve names...
Comstrike makes a very valid point. Bioware is a keen observed. They offered SWOTR hopefuls a chance to play a "Game test" as opposed to a Beta. That is very telling of their approach in the development of this game.
Most people use Betas to try out MMOs rather than consumately do everything you're NOT supposed to and purposefully break the game to then give a detailed report and help the developers to ensure the game runs well after launch. Its not a free joy ride.
The Guild Headquarters is no different and not surprising. They are gauging the size of the guilds people may make and the type of guilds that they might make. This will help them decide the numbers of servers they might need instead of pulling a Warhammer where as swarm of servers was opened just to be closed up and merged after tMythic essentially split the entire WAR community into pocket universes. You can't bend to the Day 1 crowds bitching to be with their friends on the most popular server.
Everyone whos jumping around claiming a release on the horizon is shortsighted. AxesSWOTR, you complain that Comstrike is "ruining" it for everyone by speaking his different point of view yet you give a reality check of your own to S00S00 who's excited he made a pre-order from Amazon. There's a word for that type of thing. Starts with an H.
Avoid the hype, wait for the game to come out and just get it.

@S00S00 Not trying to troll or flame, but it's kinda funny that the one thing out of all those errors you fixed was dumbest, lol.
That being said, I'm a big guildie and all but I sure would like some other things shown off as well. I've yet to be shown enough to pre-order a copy. There is still so much up in the air regarding gameplay.
Sounds good they are attempting to organize things before launch.
Creates less confusion and gives people time to figure out which servers they will be on. Everytime i hear someone joining a new game the first question i hear asked is what server are you going to make a guild on. The other person responds, no idea yet, we don't have server names.
This creates a problem, if the person creates a character on a server right away to reserve the name, they may end up on the wrong server. If they wait till they do get the server they may end up losing their desired name. This way is much smarter in my opinion, you know which server you'll be on. They can split the people up on servers so they don't end up with 3 on high and 6 on low for example.
I'm not planing on joining a guild yet till i find a server i like but that doesn't stop it from being a smart idea in my opinion.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
