edit: Nvm, missed where you mentioned you didn't like it

ooh maybe the Drakensang series? It's kind of like NWN/D&D with a ruleset thats used over in Germany I think. It was a bit of a pain learning how it all worked, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first game.

I think the second one River of Time just came out recently to.

And if you haven't played it yet, The Witcher is fairly good, and the second one should be coming out this year.

I liked very much Drakhenshang character advancement system.Nice roolset. I remember i stucked at a specific point. I didnt liked much the fact (same as nwn 2) that party members just feinted when they died .That makes combat un-intresting since none can die.Unless ofc the whole party wipe but thats another story.

    Dragon Age?

I'm not sure if your rpg taste restricts to the fantasy genre, but Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, are great sci-fi rpg as well.

Get a friend to play through the soon to be released First Templar, tho I can't say if its good or not.

Dragon Age was OK, Dragon Age 2 is OK but in a different way. Both Mass Effects were great. Both 1 & 2 of Knights of the Old Republic were good. Fallouts 1, 2, Tactics, 3, New Vegas, were good.

    Sacred. I wouldn't touch Sacred 2.

if you dont mind graphics, there are quite a few games i would recommand you:

wizardry series (especially last 2 or 3 parts)

amberstar, albion (and ambermoon on amiga emulator)

    might & magic (especially parts 3 - 8)

lands of lore (especially part 1)

    dark sun 1 & 2

    eye of the beholder 1 & 2

if you want something newer, then try e.g. the witcher

If you don't mind absolutely no story (you did say you liked Diablo), then try "Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup" which is a very polished, user-friendly, and challenging roguelike.  Best of all it is absolutely free and is still in very active development...

GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"

    2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements

if you like action rpg games, i highly suggest try castlevania curse of darkness or castlevania lords of shadow. both these games are really good interms of graphics, game factor, and game time. if you like dungeon crawler rpg games, i suggest you try  playing titan quest or dragon age.

I just picked up River of Time on the recommendation of a few people I know. It's only around $20 but you'll need to go to Steam or Impulse to find it.

It is based on a German RPG system (The Dark Eye) and has lots of number-crunchy goodness.

I'll also thrown in another vote for the Wizardry series. They are many years old now, so the graphics are quite dated, but the games are long and involved. Wizardry 7 and 8 may still be around somewhere.

  • Hello Tazarconan,

You didn't say anthing about having played Demon's souls. If you have a PS3, you should definately pick that up. It has an incredibly engrossing and dark story, and the character progression and combat elements are superb. As you stated you liked the Baldur's Gate series, you probably won't be put off by the fact that it is an incredibly challenging game, but in a very satisfying sense, as was with the Baldur's Gate games.

What I'm trying to say is: Demon's souls is the best RPG game of all time, and you should totally get it!

Yup, May 31st, 2011. Looks to be shaping up to something great, seems closer to what I was wanting DA2 to be more like too.

if you liked Wiz8, then I strongly suggest you to try Wiz7, it is IMO in some ways even better (and in some slightly worse)
