Well, the server opened this morning at 8:00 AM CST, I was able to log in, run to the location I had chosen (about a 15 minute run) and upon getting there look through all of my items and some recipes before the server went down.
Tons of lag upwards of 750ms ping. They should have probably gone with the 2 servers.

If it's that bad they will, otherwise the population will dive.
750ms................
That is simply unplayable. At this point I almost completly lost all the drive I had to play this game.
II'm there right now with stable 125 Ping connecting from Europe, so for now is working.
Edit: ok, still has lag spikes ocassionally
there not enough people for 2 servers we just need tog et away formt he mass login so the server can handle the amount of people logging in even tho i think he neds to find out whats causing the lag spikes now
The goal is to get tribes formed today. Not play. Log in, hook up with your buddies, tag up and log off.
Tomorrow, guild leader lays down totem and logs off.
Saturday people will be able to play without restrictions.
Hopefully.
Either way, it's going to be a rough ride.
I've got a pretty consistant 31 ping at 11am est..
May have wanted to give it more than 15 minutes after the server went live, lots of folks probably logging in then. Lets hope it stays decent.
Got in for 15 minutes to create my char and say hi to folks.
I've got ping 120 (normal since im in europe) with pretty regular spikes up to around 800. The startup zone I entered was pretty crowded though so I have no idea what it's going to be like once folks spread around a bit both in time and space.
Imo the devs did a smart thing with this careful launch where they gradually turn on features. We'll see how it goes from here but so far I'm optimistic.
Tomorrow at 9AM PST will be the real test....that's the test that has to pass, and cannot fail....

Logged back in to see what the crash did, and it did roll me back a bit, so I ran back out to where I wanted to be, shortly afterwards I had a lag spike of 800ms+ (which is pretty bad considering when I normally play I get between 30 and 130 ms at the worst).
At this rate the game won't be very playable, I mean the only actual things you can do in game right now are fish or forage (you can't scavenge) and the majority of the things you can do are turned off. If they want to wait before turning on the rest because they are afraid of server crashes, I think we'll be waiting a long time as the server is crashing when they run it barebones.
In chat you hear a lot of people defending it saying this is the way launches go, etc. But lets be honest here, its pretty bad for a "soft" launch where people are just getting in with the most basic intentions.
I'm not angry or anything, just concerned how they'll be able to keep these servers up. Mostly I'm just jazzed that no one is evern remotely close to the area I've chosen, haven't seen a single person walk by so I think I picked a pretty good spot.
My *5th* login today. I will say the difference was between night and day. Ping was at a cool 37 - 70 ms,
Not sure what the big change was, there were tons of people in global chat, seemed like the spawn points were still full of people, but the server seemed to be running much better.
Until the crash.... But at least while I was on, there were no major lag spikes.
Just logged in for about 20 minutes. Lot's of global chat and people in starter areas. My ping was running at a constant 31ms.
As frustrating as this delayed launch is, it is working. But man, do I want to play.
Playing right now, got a stable ping around 70-90. Occasionally spikes, but that is normal with any launch really (usually worse). Will probably lag a bit over the next few days, but it will stabalize. I look forward to rebuilding civilization!
Tell me about it, man. I rerolled once after the final (I hope) wipe, and ended up with much more than I could have asked for. I can't wait to get things going.
Oh ya, and I found myself the perfect little piece of land to begin my journey.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
I found an awesome spot about four minutes north of the norternmost part of Lake Tahoe. It's perfect for a homestead, and everything I need is within walking distance. Also fairly protected. I'm pumped.
Nice profile signature by the way. Hope Fedor isn't done.
In my palm I hold the world, in my hand I grasp it.
I loosened my fist but for an instant,
and thus I failed to clasp it.
yea ping is much better lets hope we dont have issue once more stuff is unblocked
i think with everything blocked almost he was able to pin point the issue also the bandwidth being good enough : )
so far so good - ping is stablized 120 with ocassional 250 spikes (i'm in europe so what can you do... )
It seems that whatever it was that was lagging has been taken care of. However many features such as gathering and scavenging are still turned off. We'll see how things progress once they get em online which should happen today i hope.
This second launch is proceeding quite smoothly imo albeit very cautiously. I hope we'll have a completely functional and largely lag free game by the 15th. Cheers!
EU here, almost no lag but server goes down every now and then, I think it's to implement bug fixes, (naughty naughty, tell us about it devs) as few problems I filed last night were solved.
But you still can't do anything much except run around and skill fishing and foraging.
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
Major problem with tribes found and server is down untl this is solved. Plenty of tears regarding totems, so many people just crowding starting areas (now this is most idiotic thing you can do with world so big).
No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.
