Mortal Online to add canibalism in next content patch!

Slapshot1188Slapshot1188 Member LegendaryPosts: 17,722

This is no joke.  This is a quote from the StarVault CEO on the content on their next patch. Their next patch will add food to the game.  Henrik claimed everything could be eatten so someone asked:

<@[QT]kootenay>;  Can we eat players? Or rather use parts of them in our recipes?

<@HenrikNystrom>; Yes, why not?

<@HenrikNystrom>; Or your horse for that matter

WoW already did this. The undead could eat human corpses and in PvP they can feed off your corpse.

Honestly I don't know how this adds a hell of a lot to the gameplay. It seems like they are grasping at straws to make the game alluring, but I don't know a lot of people who are going to sign up if the combat is stale and broken, but hey, you can eat people.

It adds something to do while waiting combat to be fixed. Tbh this looks like major thing so I doubt it will work for long time or it will be very basic. Did MO even have talents like cooking, if so they have to implement that, the crafting UI, crafting placeses, eating animations, buff system, drops on mobs, possible gathering nodes and so on. I'm guessing they make it very basic, meat from animals and humans plus few plants that can be harvested.

Exactly, it just plain sounds like they are just so desperate to get some (any) kind of hype going (because, you know the game doesn't actually work...). It's really sounds pretty sad and pathetic...

You people take it all way to serious. It's just another HoC promise that will enver be implemented, chill :P

No matter which MMO you play, virtually every character is a mass murderer who has killed waaaaay more people than any RL figure. That being the case, this isnt much worse.

It might be a new system, but in SV's case rolling out something new is usually better than fixing something that's already there. We know how their track record is in "fixing", and it goes hand in hand with "breaking" something else.

Either way it's just a strange development plan, especially when they are in a position to really need the subscriptions, to roll out a feature that takes dev time and effort and basically gets nobody to sign up. But hey, maybe there are really big cannibal fans out there in big numbers, and they will all sub after this. Who knows?

There is a Seinfeld episode called "The Opposite"  In this episode George decides to do the opposite of what would normally be done.  For instance he starts by changing his lunch order.  Then he walks up to a woman who ordered the same things and say's hes unemployed, lives with his parents and asks her out on a date.  She says yes.  Then he just takes it further and further.

That's what I think about with SV.  It's like they sit in a room and decide to do the opposite of what every successful developer would do. This is a pattern.. just think about dark nights that turn your screen perfectly black.  Think about starting your character with stats so low that he cannot jump 2 inches and has to be trained to sit on the floor (even though he's 30 years old) It's an interesting concept to say the least.  Thus far their financials say the concept is failing rapidy, but they look like they will buy themselves a few more months with the stock dillution sale.  Time will tell if things like canibalism will help them turn around their fortunes.

It would probably be easiest to just make one thread where you can link all the HoC discussion from today.  Similar to my Mortal Online House of Commons Chat for Thursday, 10 March thread here:  http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/361/view/forums/thread/309664/Mortal-Online-House-of-Commons-Chat-for-Thursday-10-March.html

Makes it easier to find stuff and reduces general clutter

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

This is not a discussion about the House of Commons chat.  This is a specific discusion about adding canibalism to the game.  Having such a specific discussion in a general thread would be impossible. Also the interest in this thread is double the posts and views from the one you linked.  Obviously people would prefer to have a specific discussion thread for this topic.

To be honest, it's not like SV has said "we're implementing cannibalism and it's gonna be a really cool feature!"

Cannibalism is just a realistic consequence of the planned cooking system, which will feature the possibility to mix just about anything and eat it. You will be able to cook wood and sulfur, so why not human (or elf/orc/dwarf) meat?

Anyhow, I have my doubts about whether this new system wil be a success. As with so much else about MO, it's a really cool concept on paper that will be hard to implement in a working way.

  • wmada2kwmada2k Member UncommonPosts: 193

Haha exactly. Talk about grasping for a tiny straw!

Its not that it is a feature, but since you can and need to eat, why should you not be able to eat humans, like irl?

Since it is a realistic game, I would think it would be weird if you could NOT eat everything!
