Just in case you thought they brought something new to the MMO genre let me surprise you by helping you out throught a read of this article:
While other professions rely on recharge rate for their weapon skills in combat, thieves rely on Initiative. Thieves have ten points of Initiative to use, and they gain back one point every second.
Other professiosn rely on "recharge", but the SO EPIC thief rely on initiative point that they "RECHARGE" once every second.
It's so much different to recharge one "initiative" point every seccond than to rely on recharge rate for "weapon skills". Initiative points insteaf of Sword points.
Now you understand... just another "Aura", just another Hype meter thing that doesn't make sense once you analyse it.

You have a point, and you haven't.
The Initiative thing isn't that special. However its mechanics from what they described works differently than skill usage for other classes. As far as I understood it:
compare Initiative with energy or mana bars in other MMORPG's, but Initiative will instead be 10 chunks of energy/mana.
If you compare Initiative like that, then if the Thief/Initiative mechanics would be copied to another standard MMO class, say, Mage, then it'd mean that a Mage could opt to use his skills strategically, saving his mana, or he could use it all up in a quick chain of several skills within 1-2 secs, no skill cooldown. Also it'd mean that he would have a full mana bar from zero in 10 seconds.
I think the different part is that there's no skill cooldown/recharge like with other GW2 classes, meaning a Thief can mass burst fire his skills, if he has enough Initiative points.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
the initiative thing is new to other classes and very special for a thief but now i dont know how to choose from all this classes arenanet got me realy confused XD,i hope they make all the classes within all the races equal or people wont play the class they like

One thing that bugs me a bit. You're supposed to able to dodge things like arrows right?
That makes me wonder can you dodge bullets? :P
If yes: Wouldn't it feel kind of weird, just makes me think of sci-fi stuff like matrix.
If no: Why would anyone want to play with a bow then?
"If I had a d*ck, I'd go get laid. But we can do that next best thing... Let's kill people."
Awwww!! It's NOT a Xmas tree damn it!
And scorpion wire is soooopo GET OVER HERE!!! awesomeness...the first sound macro bind I'lll create in the game lol, great reference
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
