from the few pics i'v seen i really like the look, it's much like Tera meets lord of the rings. they have definately made this one with western audience in mind.  is this game really planning on launching this year?

ArcheAge is likely to release at the end of this year, at Korea.Or Q1of 2012...About EU/US most propably Q2 of 2012.

Sandbox MMORPGs that are not very well-known but definitely worth a look:

Ryzom, Haven and Hearth, Xsyon, The Repopulation, UO private shards, Mortal Online, Darkfall 1 remakes (New Dawn or Rise of Agon), RPG MO, Project Gorgon, EQ: Sanctuary (custom  server)

another game that I would like to be trying out while I wait for GW2.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

It kinda reminds me of SilkRoad Online.  From the videos on the site, it doesnt seem that smooth yet for animation either :(.

If it is launching this year, i hope they smooth out some things :).

it is 99.99% sure that GW2 releases for ArcheAge Online. If this doesn't happen, than it is /facepalm on Arenanet's side ;)

Yea, GW2 will definitely be out before Archeage.

I plan on playing Rift, then GW2 then Archeage.

Save the money on RIFT and wait for SWTOR,  a real next gen game (compared to RIFT that is).

I really do not know enough yet about the development of this game,so maybe share with us ,the WHY you think a 2011 release date is bad or good?

So far from what i have seen it the game deserves more hype than really any game i have seen over many years, even more so than the epic SWTOR game. There is however a couple things i do not like in the game design,so from my standpointi have a great interest to knwo more, but i also may find it hard to play something that deos a couple things wrong in my books.

Ok i did do some googling and found some information that may or not be relavent.

The game as of jan 2010 was already in the 6th beta phase,so that is quite some time ago.I think and do not quote me but the game engine cry engine 2 was actually designed around archeage needs. The game studio was started in 2003,so again quite some time ago,to last 8 years,i would say they are doing something right.I believe this game prior known as project X2 was probably near finished, but the ymade use of a much better /newer game engine ,so they needed more time to redo the game on the cry 2 engine.

I am not sure if it did release, but the game was scheduled to release last year in S.Korea,so this is definitely not some game pushing speed to get it out by end of this year. They are probably working on a few tweaks to meet NA standards and a publishing deal that makes sense,i beleive it may end up being a F2p game, which i don't think will go well over here.

The producer is the same guy who made Lineage [Jake Song] so again this is not some new or fly by night developer.I think this game definitely warrants more notice than it gets, trends at MMORPG.com seem to favor advert devs for better recognition,so until they hand money over to this site,i doubt we will hear much hype.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Please, no more F2P.  I hate "buy the win" games.  I'll even deal with the PVP that asian games tend to lean towards.  This game looks and sounds amazing, but please don't go F2P.

Let me tell you some known facts about AA

The devs said they are planning to use pay 2 play method.

The game had 2 CBTs so far, and the third is planned out late this month or on April. It was 2006 XLGames started developing this game. 2003 was probably when they created the studio. Their first work was on a realism based racing game, went on doing some CBTs, but negative feedbacks made them ditch the project. Then they started on AA. News from 2009 said AA was scheduled to be released on late 2010, or early 2011, but as of now, the latest interviews from the devs told us they plan to go open beta in Korea on November 2011.

    Dear Wizardry,

would you please tell me what things you find distasteful about AA? I'll try to tell to the developers about it!

    Dear Wizardry,

After doing some research on AA I changed my hype rating from 5 to 10.  I've been impressed with everything about the game, but what I found most impressive is their switch to cry2.  It set them back at least a year, but shows that they plan for the future and want to put out a good product.

I've been questioning if XLG can pull off what I've been reading and watching.  I've found some screenshots of a CBT and it looks amazing.  So many hopes.  X-fingers for a cure to all the failed dreams of an old gamer.

I do have one real worry left.  I hope they make the mobs hard to kill.  I've watched vid feeds from games like TERA and players kill 20 mobs before ever having any real health pt issues.

I think that AA may have this issue too.  I watched a vid where they had some hunting on horse back.  They gathered 10 or 12 mobs by horse back.  It looked week and too easy.  Hunting isn't for panzies.  GIve me a challenge for once.

I played that evil WOW until they ruined the game.  To this day I still remember my fight with a named gold elite in Ungoro Crater.  I collected a ton of buffs for my Lock and soloed that bad tempered dino when it was still 2 lvls above me (it was my third character - I had vengence in mind).  Hard as heck and it took all I had.  It was my best gaming exp ever.

I'll say it again.  Give me a challenge.  Not just in the instances and bosses.  Make the mobs hard to fight.  Adventure, exploration, and extreme trials are what make a game good.  If I don't have the chill of near death sometime, then it's just a boring grind.  Grinding is easy, boring and you risk nothing.  Bring back the risk of death.  Make AA a challenge.

It's actually using the cryengine 3, if the crytek engine demonstration videos are to be believed.

X-box and PS3 are cry3, AA for PC is cry2.  At least I think that is what I read.  I could be wrong.  I admit I still have stars in my eyes from the vids I enjoyed.

"We’re not exactly sure why ArcheAge is in the following CryENGINE 3 showcase video. Our favorite MMO was definitely built using CryENGINE 2, but perhaps the two engines were similar enough that XLGames switched over? If that hypothesis is correct, it can only mean good things"

    I can't find this confirmed..

I'm pretty sure if they invited the MMORPG.com writers to play the game or even showed the game at conventions they'd get more coverage but they don't. The game might be good but unless they start advertising, they might as well settle for their niche audience.

    This is not a game.

I am just curious what MMO RPG they are refering to at 35 secs in on http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-11-cryengine-3/711210.

It's the language barrier that draws them back. Koreans freak out on anything thats related with live English. Maybe they will do that later when the time is ripe for advertisement unless mmorpg.com writers are willing to try the CBT without english support ;).

I'm very confident it's a game under the title Project E:ST, you can look it up on youtube.
