Looking for a couple of things..
PVP, Diversity in playable classes, Which one is newer? Which one has better end game content, pvp arenas/bg's. Level caps on each? Iv'e played a warlock and rogue uptill 80 on WOW, and although i did like wow its end game content did not appeal to me and the pvp isn't much fun either.. especially now that i look at what aion and rift have to offer..can someone weigh out the pro's and con's for me? Rift looks appealing because isn't it newer hence meaning i won't be a complete noob? Aion seems fun but it seems like i'll get ganked till i'm 50. Someone help break it down for me!

Aion has much better PvP and visual customization, but Rift is better in every other way, including a much more diverse and interesting class system. Rift has PvP, but you have to choose between a gankfest PvP server, or WoW-like PvP quests and instances, which doesn't appeal to me at all, but YMMV.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
If your looking for fluid combat and the most skillbased PvP WoW is still miles ahead of Rift and Aion im afraid.
I agree about Rift having more interesting class system and it has a more interesting world in my opinion. However, I found the combat better in Aion.
yeah skills are very important to me, like i have seen videos in aion where an assassin and a chanter have taken on 3-4 enemy pvp's (same levels) and completely destroyed them.. I don't think thats even possible in WOW, right?
all 3 have pvp, but Aion has neither battle grounds or arena, and WoW the only one with an actual arena pvp.
i'd say Rift has the most divers way to play each class with Aion having the least (pretty much only 1 spec per class), with WoW definately in the middle.
newest is Rift, followed by Aion, and last WoW.
really hard to say "best" because it's very much a personal preference, but WoW has the most end game content per se. with Aion having the least imo.
wow 85, Aion 55, Rift 50 ( i think).
Aion's pvp is entirely world pvp, where gear is a huge deciding factor. there are sieges, and rifting but most of the pvp is done in the Abyss (flying pvp). there is no "fair" BG fights, and you will not be able to completely avoid getting ganked wile you quest.
Aion has a big grind, once you get to 55 the only thing you pretty much get to do is grind dungoens for gear and Abyss points (which you loose, in part, if you die) adn do Abyss sieges. you will get ganked untill you get either really good low level gear (gold lowbe gear) or get to end level and farm some Abyss gear.
sorry cant say too much about Rift's pvp because frankly i got bored before i could really get into that game's pvp.
Aion is definately a grindy game, do not expect to level and gear up not nearly as quickly as WoW. the one that grinds the most wins in Aion.
Blazay actually it is possible in wow, a high caliber pvp geared player can take out 3-4 bad players on his own.
I agree, wow's pvp sucks.. Its boring.. Yada yada yada.. With that said, Rifts pvp is very simular to WoW 'cept it's a little bit better when it comes to rewarding you for world pvp (and pvp in general if you ask me.) The war zones are also pretty fun, but get boring quick (as did WoW's.)
AION's pvp is the best i've played in a MMORPG yet.. The graphics are amazing.. The fort raids are extremley fun (especially if you're leading the #1 guild of 100+ players like i was back when aion launched.) The raids do take a toll on you're computer, some computers can handle it and others cannot.. You will get ganked a lot, you gotta learn tactics to get away from the ganks, which usually involves useing you're wings to glide to guards.. The only thing that ruins aions pvp is GEAR.. Look up miragents/fenrils before you join AION, as that is the end game set that makes lvl 50's roflstomp other lvl 50's in less then 3seconds.. So if you're gonna grind to 50 be prepared to grind out miragents (i spent around 3 months grinding bloodstains and never got anything to show of it because end game gear is based on RNG.) So in that aspect, aion is broken.. Had they gotten rid of Miragents or listened to the westerns suggestions about makeing it easier then the game would be easier to suggest to other pvp'ers.
I myself am debateing weather to go buy Rift and start up (played through all the betas extensivley so i wanted a break before i purchased it for real) or go back to AION and give it another shot since the patch seemed to "westernize" it more... But the fact is i heard they havn't changed a single thing about Miragents/Fenrils and since i know that's where i'll end up during end game i probably won't go back to AION.. It's funny how one gear set can ruin a whole game.
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
tricky one.. i have played all 3 games, and.. i would have to say that Aion is my least favourite, but as i gave up after just 2 weeks.. im not sure about the pvp part of it.. as the pvp in WoW is frankly.. dire.. but.. in terms of PVE, both WoW and Rift win over Aion.. end game WoW is very good.. AIons.. .. i was too bored with it to find out.. Rifts. i hope to find out at some point - im too busy having fun playing to worry about endgame just yet.. the problem with comparing games is that, they often have pro's and con's that are completely different.. but overall, if i had to base a placement on experience so far.. i would say best to worst it would be WoW - Rift - Aion.. although the gap between WoW and Rift is probably not as big as the gap between Rift and Aion.. its all about fun i guess..
hmm, very interesting. I think we need a person with a lot of gameplay in rift to come in and give his opinion. Looking for the impression of the pvp aspect and in terms of skill. I just had never seen a wow player fight 3-4 players at once and get away with it.. usually they would just run, but i have seen vids with a lot of tactics and skillful players (with gear) going around and destroyed skilled players in groups of 3 or 4. I feel like wow tries to "level the playing field" to prevent 1 on 4's from happening as they are disadvantegous for the one player and if the one player prevails the playing field suddenly becomes "unleveled"
Just to clear somthing up real fast, i saw sombody say somthing about " skill " and PVP when talking about these games. These are not skillbased games they are Gearbased games. in no way does skill trump gear in these pathetic excuse for pvp games.
Yay, it's one of these threads again, how wonderful.
just trying to find the right game to dedicate my time to. I could go back and level my lock to an 85 in wow, but i was not impressed with the pvp in wow ever. Looking for other options. Don't troll.
in the end the game has to grab you. there is no point in playing a game just because it has the "best" pvp out there if it's just not fun. sometimes it's the small things, like the way character walks or animations, or the art style, or game themes, etc that just ruines the game. you'll only truly know if you like a game after you'v personaly tried it. listening to pros and cons is always nice but you never turly know untill you see how the game actually feels to you.
Aion is 30$ and Rift is 50$, you wont brake the bank either way.
watch a few Youtube clips, find the one that attacts you more and then just give it a try.
I think when it comes to diverese PvE content Aion isn't going to shine, it is a PvPvE game where it throws you into a world and see's if you can keep up. Sadly to keep up you will need to level up fast and then gear up, that aside it does have some amazing PvP... when it works (sieges and lagging come to mind). Since it has been out a while, a lot of people are max level with top end abyss sets (miragents is now considered mid-range gear!). But there is something amazing about co-ordinating 250 v 250 fights, running round enemy maps trying to stay alive or fighting in Dredgion (6v6 pvpve arena). I would say if you lean more towards pvp then go with Aion, PvE WoW or Rift.

One thing I'd like to point out about Aion: it is very possible to get to 50 without participating in PvP. The enemy faction cannot enter the three lowest level zones (1-10, 10-20, 20-25). At 25 you can go to the Abyss which is a heavily contested PvP zone, but there is a PvE instance in the safe area that you can run up to level 28. At 28, if you're Asmodian side, you do a few key runs in... whatever that instance is called, and then you can run the Fire Temple instance into the mid to high 30s. Both of those instances have entrances in areas that the enemy faction can rift into, but you're not that likely to get killed on the way there. At that point, you may have to grind out a few levels on quest hubs in dangerous zones before you're 40 and qualify for Steel Rake—an instance that you enter from the main city itself—and ride that to 50.
So don't let anyone tell you that you will get ganked left and right as you try to hit the level cap in Aion. While you can always find PvP if you're looking for it, the path to 50 is not even a little bit dangerous if you stick to instances.
I would actually say Aion's pvp is one of the best you can find out there (talking for sieges and group-guild rifting) . But the problem is if you really wanna have fun you'll at least need to play at mid video options and that game my friend is a bit heavy on hardware. Since around 500 people at each side attend a siege ( at least 500 that is ) it lags out soo good that when you click on a skill you can go make your self a cup of coffe than come back just in time to see that skill cast. that is for a pc with intel 3.2 cpu ati radeon hd 2600 pro ddr2 3gbs of ram.
Well I have played 3 of them and I have played wow and aion till the lvl limit and I think wow has the worst pvp . in Aion you can gather a group and roll a rift party where you can venture through oter lands and kill people. In rift you have alot of options for pvp like normal pve raids where you need to kill players too, also in rifts anyone acn do whatever they want like guardians can come and try to seal the rift while youa re trying to kill them. Also rift is like easteregg fest like I found dancing squirrels and I stole an old man's pants lol. I would suggest like this
wow: only if you like meaningless gank and arena
aion: unbalanced pvp but can be fun with fortresses also rifts are really fun
rift: instance , open world , raid and rift pvps are really fun and the game keeps you develop with other faction , like you go try to capture their wardstones in quest ares in order to produce your own npc there and tons of stuff
hope it helps
Anyone already tried Rift? it was just released a weeks ago and it was the highest rank...
Definitely Rift. Rift is slightly similar to wow but is newer and has better graphics.
First post yay!
Does it have to be one of those three? If not, I'd recommend Guild Wars. Buy to play, with a purely cosmetic cash shop. Very PvP heavy and has fairly diverse class system, allowing you to have 2 classes and customize them however you see fit. You can only have up to 8 abilities on you at a time, so you have to find out what works best with your class choices and/or what you like best, also so you're not spamming dozens of abilities and just facerolling across your key board. More skill, less 1, 2, 3. Population is great as well. More people are coming back to do pre-GW2 stuff, as well as new people who are interested in GW2 and are checking out the first.
Steam has Guild Wars Game of the Year Edition for $20, Guild Wars+Factions+Nightfall for $30, and the expansion eye of the North for $30. You only need The base game to reach the level cap (20), factions and nightfall are just added story lines (I haven't tried them myself, but I believe you can chose to start with those if you have them, rather than the Prophecies campaign), and eye of the North has exclusive content for level 20 players (4 regions, 150 skills, 18 dungeons, 10 new heroes, 40 armor sets, and (why a lot of people have cameback) 'Your own personalized Hall of Monuments to preserve your achievements, trophies, and titles across all Guild Wars games, allowing descendants to reap the benefits of your character's fame in Guild Wars 2').
