My solution against keyloggers, never ever been hacked

MontaronxMontaronx Member UncommonPosts: 273

Seeying allot of ppl spamming these forums calling on their account being hacked by the help of keyloggers, well this might be a solution for those who need it

Kaspersky 2011 has a nifty feature called a virtual keyboard, sure it can be a pain to click the stuff instead of typing, but its allot less pain then to find out your entire account has been striped.

I rather use On-Screen Keyboard from Windows 7

  • ukforzeukforze Member Posts: 331

Every version of windows i can think of has this feature too...

I have never had an account hacked in the 13yrs i have been gaming online,

i dont use any AV, its more about being sensible about what you do & where you go,

browsing sensibly as well as having a reasonable pc knowledge is enough,

unfortunately most ppl are dumb though, you cannot protect your pc from that!

The number one reason accounts are comprised is not because of keylogger but is by hacking or acuqiring user information from fan sites (there is youtube video posted a year ago where one of gold farmer explains it clearly). Most often people use the same email/account name for the game as the ones they use for fan forums. That is how a lot of Aion accounts were hacked (Aion source).

A simpler solution is to run Mozilla. Make sure your login is a limited user, not an administrator account on your computer. Run the 'No Script' and 'Flash Block' add-ons. Then, unless you enable scripts for one of the ad distribution networks (like doubleclick.net) most likely you won't get the key logger in the first place.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Quoting for emphasis. Mainly cause I see so many people who are just gobbsmacked that their account was compromised when they used the same username and pass for every site they go to.

Since there are very few games that I ever have the desire to log in TO.....I won't get hacked very often I suppose.

This reminds me of my mother telling my sister and I when we were kids, that this was the only 100% sure way not to get pregnant.  I don't think she called it "logging in" though....although....in this modern age of technology it might be a good  analogy to use now. heh

I still like the idea of "being smart".

Since 2004 I have never been hacked and (until now) never ran any virus software.

I say "until now" because a while back Turbine told me that my account had been compromised. I downloaded malware bytes, checked for virus's/key loggers and had nothing.

Turbine then told me that "they" probably got my info a while back (another computer) and just sat on the info until it was time to use it.

Interesting thign, when I finally got my account back, nothing was taken, no character was moved and everything was exactly as I left it. Which leads me to believe that A, they got some sort of false positve, or B, Turbine was just "so fast" that they stopped the perpetrators before they could do anything.

er, or D, the perpetrators "tried" to get in but just couldn't. and their multiple attempts set off a red flag. I certainly hope it was my cool password that stopped 'dem dirty buggers.

Nevertheless, I have been running malware bytes twice per week "just in case". Still, in 7 years no issues because I didn't down load anything from suspicous sites nor did i visit any suspicous sites.

So I'm going to go on a limb here and say that "being careful" really is a great way to minimize your risk.

And it might have been mentiond in this thread (or not) but why can't someone just make a keylogger that scans for keys hit or input no matter the source?

No virus software. No accounts hacked in any MMO ever, and I've tried nearly every major release in the last 10 years.

I do have multiple email accounts and I do have around 200 passwords memorised.  I work in web development and I'm not your average home pc user I suppose, but it really is 99% common sense and a guarded attitude to any website or software you don't know or have an intuitive suspicion of.

Stay away from off the beaten path gaming sites.  Don't use third party addons for your games.  Don't click those enticing links in spam mail, no matter how official they seem.  I have played many MMOs since the late 1990's and it has served me well.

The only exceptions were for Blizzard and NCSoft.  Both accounts were hacked multiple times and to this day I can't think of how they did it.  It's just as well that I no longer want to play any games made by those companies.  I find it odd too, that I've played more SOE games over a much longer period and have never had hacking issues, ever.

No, keyloggers will totally not log application touch screen keystrokes ever! Yup, totally has never been thought of that since your keystrokes are totally not taken into account when you click a letter on your screen. You sir found the one weakness of script kiddies!

You honestly think a windows application that will still register your keystrokes on screen will save you from the blatant stupidity on your end? As in you were stupid enough to register a game account and not actively monitor and maintain your investment/account and using other means to pay for game time instead of direct pay?

It's like a family, job, or anything else in life. Take care of it, you have less problems to none at all. Simple common sense people, simple common sense.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

The best way to not get hacked is to google flash porn and game hacks 24/7. While using Internet Explorer of course.
