MMORPG.com's Drew Wood has been spending some time in Battlestar Galactica Online for the past several weeks. Drew has some thoughts to share with our readers about what he's discovered. Will it live up to the hopes of fans of the TV series? Can a browser game live up to the features found in 'stand alone' MMOs? Find out in Drew's Open Beta Impressions.
As a browser-based MMO, on the other hand, I would say that it's safe to believe that in most respects, the title delivers. Now, by no means is this game going to change your life or revolutionize the genre, but let's keep a couple of things in mind. For a browser game, this looks fantastic. I was surprised how well this game ended up looking on my machine and though I was expecting graphics that could've come from a PlayStation 2 title, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they look more akin to early Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 titles.

Not bad for fans , i think . ( where i can find beta key : - ) ? )
article would be better with ingame/browser screenshots, not the regurgitated marketing ones. Gives me no feel for the game whatsoever.
Since the game is in open beta, you can check it out yourself!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Open beta? Thats odd,I thought the game had been released. So when I see open beta I have to scratch my head. Its been several weeks since syfi announced the game and had it on face book, and nowhere did I see the words open beta. I though the game was live at this point.
I played it some in closed beta.
I have to agree the controls are the worst part of this game, and is what turned me totally off.
Another browser based game that's totally worthless.
Now if you just got to have bsg then its for you but its playability lacks a lot to be desired in my thoughts.

sign up there to get in game they send you an email verify it and they will let you play.
If they tune up the controls, I'd consider playing it for a bit. As they are now though the game is virtually unplayable; everything is ridiculously sluggish. A high-tech space fighter craft should feel just a tad more responsive than say, the Queen Mary 2.
Could use some more info like:
Are there any over-reaching goals with the PvE? Or is it just about bragging rights?
What kind of different ships are there and how do you get them? Are only fighters available for players?
Is the game about anything else beside combat? Crafting? Mining? Resources?

Wow, you're excited that a new PC game looks like an "early xBox 360 game"? No thanks.
Lol the xbox bsg game is not 360, I just dug it out of my storeroom. It was for the original xbox, and looks worlds better than that browser game and is free for me to play.
I stuck it in my 360 and worked like a charm and was easier to play.
The controls are fine. You just need to learn more about the game. It is meant to be played more like eve than your average dogfighter twitch.
I'm a player from the CB days with BGO. I can safely say the controls make way more sense once you realize this isn't twitch based but more traditional mmo controls only faster. You don't just use vipers. You can fight with battle ships IE Escort or Line ships (really big ships).
As for the inverted, I take it flight sims confuse most people , reverse axis and all (Why I have no idea as it makes sense to me in a cockpit game), however it would of taken the reviewer all of 1 second to change that from that crazy cog box at the left corner of the screen.
Same goes for all the controls easily modified.
Now for those of you complaining about the "speed of a viper" what? You think your nuggety self at lvl 1 can pilot a viper right proper?
Really?
Take some time upgrade your ships parts, upgrade your skills and you'll be making slide turns at extreme speeds in no time.
I reaaly hope they won't make it Pay2Play when it is in final stage. Yeah, I know it is browser-based game and it looks OK for such, but I wont pay for this when there are titles like EVE and Black Prophecy.
The included screenshots are precisely what the game looks like.
I agree. It's alright an game to sink a little time into, but I couldn't see myself playing this seriously, especially if I had to pay for it. It's a sad thing, the license really deserved more, and to think that this game won't go P2P would be insane.

Can the devs for BSG Online please kill themselfs for tarnishing the BSG brand with the crappiest game i have ever played. They couldnt even get one simple thing done right.... the controls are messed up. I quit playing after 30 mins of wasted life.
