Hello all you SoR's out there.. I may become one of you soon and I'd like to ask some questions to get an idea of whether this game's for me.
1. What is the main goal/your main goal in this game?
(In DAOC it was engame PvP.. in ATITD it is to complete the trials... what is it in this game? And if it's particular to each player, what is it that you have made your goal in the game?
2. What about the game brings you the most enjoyment?
3. How long do you envision yourself playing? Does the company make good decisions/listen to its players? Do you ever reach a point where you're bored?
4. I've heard the game is about exploration. How much about fighting is it? Crafting? The storyline? Something else? (I get the idea that there's something about this game that no other game has.. what is this thing?)
Thank you for your insights... There's something interesting about this game.. maybe you guys can help me understand what it is.

OK, here is my shot. I have been around since End of October(just after patch 1). I am from the East Coast of the US.
1. My goal changes every week if not every day! It is awesome. Sometimes I log in thinking I am going to do somehting and end up doing something completely different. I explore, dig, hunt, heal, craft, socialize, whatever, whenever. I think I would like to be really good at defensive affliction type thinigs. Mostly I just try to have fun.
2. I have to say for me it is a combination of 3 things. First, the exploring, I am an explorer type. Second it is crafting something and having people ask me for my crafted items. Lastly, it is the community. I have a bunch of casual in-game friends, and I mean a bunch prolly 100. And I mean people not in my guild.
3. I tihnk it could go on for quite some time. The company has made a lot of changes, and is listening to players. I have seen many suggestions that were player originated implemented in game since I started. In addition, they have realized how important it is to communicate with us. We would always like more communication, it is really good now though.
4. It is about all that you listed, and you can do any currently any day, any time. You can make it a grind if you desire to be uber. You can also take 9 months and not have progressed level wise but still enjoy the heck out of the game. It might just be that that is it, any day any time, anything. The only thing that appears to be lacking is in questing, and the storyline. Things are coming together well though. It is a bunch of fun.
Lastly you comment about "that thing" that seems to grab us all. Well, we are all at a loss too. We have had several threads about the same topic, and no one can quite put a finger on it.
Hope this helped. If you end up on the English Server, I am Noinossalg!
Noin.
Sweet.. I downloaded the game last night and just started a character a couple hours ago.. his name's Poe. I'll probably be on later today. This game sounds interesting.
Maybe the thing that makes it so cool is that it is what you make of it.. and you can make a lot of things from it?

that's the point of the game, you play the saga, you make the story... althouhg this isn't really happening for the moment (wait till ryzom ring ). This game has quiet a great story behind it, although not much implented at the moment I think... but there's a patch coming very soon with new rites (=quests) that normally create more depth. Also in a month (maybay two) outposts will be implented, and that will be great fun . Read the official site/forums for more info about them

> 1. What is the main goal/your main goal in this game?
This might sound weird, but the draw for me to this game and my main goal is to just find out what the Planet Atys ("The Living Planet") is and who the Kami and Karavan were. That's my long term goal, to experience and discover the entire story.
I have a bunch of short immediate one I am working on, such as being able to be self sufficient by being able to dig and craft equipments my level, making enough moneys to host more events, and helping my guild become great.
> 2. What about the game brings you the most enjoyment?
Definitely the people I play with and the ability to play any classes and do anything I want to do that day, be it to work on my dig, to ding a few levels in craft, to make some munnies by digging, to get a few levels in nuke, a few levels in magic, help guild get new spawns, fames, find new portals or rare material spots for diggin, etc.
> 3. How long do you envision yourself playing? Does the company make good decisions/listen to its players? Do you ever reach a point where you're bored?
Till either the story ends, or the company crash and burn.
The company does an awesome job listening to the players (although they might be a big too slow to carry things thru to my liking :P)
> 4. I've heard the game is about exploration. How much about fighting is it? Crafting? The storyline? Something else? (I get the idea that there's something about this game that no other game has.. what is this thing?)
All of the above.
1. What is the main goal/your main goal in this game?
Changes from day to day, week to week. At the moment i've decided to do some community service and am filling the markets of my home land with cheap swords and daggers for newer players. Get 0 xp for this as i can craft to a much higher level but get a nice feeling . Next week might be exploring a difficult area, or getting another couple of elemental level's so i can learn new spells.
2. What about the game brings you the most enjoyment?
The fact that you can do anything, be anything. The only constraint is the time you put in. i am an average crafter, uber pr digger, healer, light armsman, etc, etc. But if i get the urge to take up 2-h pike fighting i can go buy a shiny pike and some heavy armor and start a new career. When i do that i might start crafting pikes and heavy armor as well so lots of new skills and activities will have opened up to me.
3. How long do you envision yourself playing? Does the company make good decisions/listen to its players? Do you ever reach a point where you're bored?
Think i will play until my lack of attention to RL forces me to stop. The freedom in the game (see point 2) means when i get bored of something i dont have to look far for something new to do. Nevrax listen, more so now than 6 months ago and are constantly improving lines of communication. The ingame support is without a doubt the best in any game i have played. normally a response within 1-2 minutes of sending in a ticket, and a friendly guide or gm who will chat with you, teleport in to see your issue, etc.
4. I've heard the game is about exploration. How much about fighting is it? Crafting? The storyline? Something else? (I get the idea that there's something about this game that no other game has.. what is this thing?)
now there is a good question. and a hard one to answer -) for me it doesnt feel like a game a lot of the time; the world is so alive that after a while you are drawn into it. I spend so much time wandering around looking at things. every day (and this is after 9 months of play) i notice something new.. the level of detail and consistency is really great.
hmm enough fanboi ranting i think... One thing to remember is that Ryzom *is* very different from the mainstream GW/WoW/EQ/AC/etc mould. We have a mature and supportive community, but people come in and after an hour get fed up because there is no uber loot, instanced dungeons, linear quest driven play that drags you along.. If people come here expecting that then they will be disappointed, but if ur not wanting that then u'll probably love it
Heres my opinion
1. What is the main goal/your main goal in this game?
* My main goal is - and always will be: To have fun. If I dont have fun I dont really want to play ,-)
2. What about the game brings you the most enjoyment?
* Many things here: Huntingpartys, Exploring, Looking for new materials and/or experimenting with them to get better stuff crafted, Events or just simply chatting to ppl
3. How long do you envision yourself playing? Does the company make good decisions/listen to its players? Do you ever reach a point where you're bored?
* I dont think I can set a timelimit for the game, Ill play it until I find something I like more I guess. Sofar Ive seen mostly good things coming from the link between us players and the devs. Sure Ive been bored some times, always solved it by not playing that day - next day Im back, its like a magnet lol
4. I've heard the game is about exploration. How much about fighting is it? Crafting? The storyline? Something else? (I get the idea that there's something about this game that no other game has.. what is this thing?)
* Exploration is a fun and big part of this game but my main interest is the crafting/harvesting part - system is totally unique and works great (altho they will need to bring in new stanzas soon *nudges devs*). I like the stanzas, they let you create your own personal char be it magic, fighting or crafting your after.
GMs are working very hard with feeding the storyline to players and most events are storybased.
I cant tell you whats so special about this game cause Im not really sure myself, I just know that it "feels good" to play it... cant explain it more then that.
