EA's helping with SWTOR and alot off ppl hate them.. they are known for ruining games look at Ultima online.. destroyed it.. but they are just getting the game out there nothing else so who cares..
besides without SWTOR,Tera,Archeage what would skillfull players do? {mod edit}
Maybe your being sarcastic and I missed it, but you do realize SWTOR and Archeage are TAB targeting style combat games. I plan on playing them both, but they won't require much skill,
Just because the combat is tab targeting doesn't mean it requires no skill. Just requires a different kind of skill than games like TERA. I would go as far to say the knowledge to learn your class and how to get as much out of it as possible is greater than making sure you are aiming at a person and knowing when to move.
I think SWTOR is going to disappoint. IMO, it's going to be a glorified interactive movie. No skill or brain required.
GW2 might be similar (but it's B2P, so I'll buy it).
I don't care if Atari is publishing TERA. I just want to play.
All this crying about Atari which has nothing to do with the development of the game. I wonder what company would satisfy all of them as it seems everyone hates every single producer out there.
Open your favorite book. Look for the credit marked: Publisher. Now look at the author. Are they the same? No. Does the publisher have anything to do with writing the book? Yep, they usually write the cover art and back/inside flap summary. Same with video games. EME makes the game, graphics, gameplay, everything. Atari stuffs it on a DVD, adds a fancy box with cover art, description, and their logo, and sends it to Wal-Mart. You buy it, play it, say it sucks, and blame Atari, although all they did was put it in a box. Research your development before putting Atari on the line. They had a troubled past, but their recent new management has cleaned up their act quite nicely, and now they publish quality games. Well, most of them. XD

This amuses me. TAB targetting games promote one thing: Builds. A build promotes one thing: the lack of individuality. Everyone will use the same skills in the same order or they will die because they're not using the best "build." Enter TERA, where you have to aim. You can have the best build you want, but if I dodge your attacks with player skill and do a better job of predicting your movements... that build isn't going to do you crap.
Way to drive a nail into TERA's coffin being hosted by the worst company in the MMO business.
I am not sure, with Electronic arts and Activision in the business as well it is kinda like smelling a soccer teams used socks to smell which one that is worst.
Not the best decision but the other 2 would be about as bad. I remember when there actually still were many publishers, I guess that means I am getting really old.

True. In this day and age, I can't believe that a distributor is such a big deal. Sure, you get advertising (which is very hard to do as an indie), but honestly, box sales are not what should be driving an online game.
You are really paying for an account with an MMO, the software is just there as a vehicle for you to interact with that account. You can't sell the account in the box (well, I guess you can sell a CD-Key, which can be linked to an account, but...), and at some point in time you have to go online. So why not just distribute online.
The game is played online. Account creation and authentication are online Patch distribution is online (and the release day patch is usually nearly as large as the entire game installer anyway).
Aside from advertising, I don't see the need for a big publisher really, or in-store box sales at all with MMOs. The only in-store tangible item I could see being of any benefit are the gift cards for those who don't want to use credit cards (or other forms of online payment) for subscription on in-game currency.
Now it's entirely possible I just have my head in the clouds on this one.
all atari is doing is putting the ads in the magazines and websites and butting the nice glossy boxes on the shelves (not that i would know, steam 4 life). Also, i'd imagine, handling the billing.
that's it, quit worrying ya numbknuts :S
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
I don't think the distributer is likely to have a major impact on the game, other than making sure the launch goes smoothly.
I remember how up-in-arms people were when GOA were selected to manage Warhammer Age of Reckoning in Europe, but in the end, Mythic f**ked it up all by themselves.
If this game blows, it'll be down to En Masse and noone else to accept the blame IMO (but I'm sure it won't)
It doesn't matter what label is on it. They're middlemen. I don't care if a Vanilla Ice logo was placed on it. If the game is good then I'll play it. Even though Blizz was pretty solid at the time of WOW's release, I still didn't know them. Nor did I care.
