Now I have been reading up on this game as i do before i buy most games and till have a question a feel that is is the best place to ask them. The question I have is how are the load times in the game, I mean are they as bad as the Everquest games or as good as WOW from which when i played the beta i could not seem to catch any? This is the one of the main reasons I didn't bought Everquest 2 and would be a reason for not buying this game. All so have you ever been disconnect for the game random or not been able to get on and if so how often? this game seems to be a great game missing some of the features i like, I that i love is user-made item and stuff and other not so important stuff like owning land/house and stuff like that, just adds a little fun to me. Well thanks for your time.
Comments
Dont buy it.. it really sux..
1. Its not an MMORPG... its an ORPG
2. You will hardly ever group until high lvls..... because its all instanced
3. Its boring
4. WoW and many other MMO's are better.. EVEN EQ2
5. Its boring
6. LOADS of bugs... so many that your eyes will fall out of the sockets and youll want to stomp on em from fustration
7. Did I mention its boring?
Conclusion: Dont buy it.. I made the mistake.. noone else should.
don't listen to him. most of what he says itsn't true.
1- honestly, who cares what genre you wanna stick the game in. it really doesn't matter
2- that's bull. i've been grouping up all the time since i was like, level 1.
3- boring? ok, go ahead and play eq2 or wow where you have to run for an hour to find some stupid item and then run back for an hour to give it to an npc. guild wars is easily the most fun and exciting online rpg i've ever played
4- eq2 is terrible. wow is ok. either way, they're a different kind of game, you can't even compare them to guild wars
5- yeah ok, if you say so. obviously a definition of the word boring i've never heard before
6- bugs??? HA!!! i've not seen a single bug. nothing to effect the gameplay anyway. and if you wanna talk about bugs, then don't try and suggest that EQ2 or WoW are bug free. they are bug *ridden*
7- *sigh*
Seriously, this game is fun fun fun. the story section of the game is fun and addictive, and the pvp is second to none. i would even say it beats the pants off of counterstrike or any other multiplayer FPS
buy this game if you want. i don't really care if you do or not. just don't listen to this guy as he's full of shit
[we need a worldwide genocide/ a planetary suicide/ and when the whole damned world is dead/ there''s your f***ing peace]
STFU, troll. You are talking out of your ass.
Now to answer the questions of the OP:
Loading times are pretty decent. Things will load when you travel from area to area. These kind of look like an instance entrance in WoW. You will load each time you go to a new area since everything outside of town is instanced. I can't remember any load time taking over one or two minutes, including logging into the game or installing new builds of GW. 99% of the time, it's *very* brief. Almost like opening up a Word document, at least on my machine.
Crafting is not very deep in GW. You gather the materials by killing mobs and picking up thier loot. Often you'll have to take an extra step of salvaging materials from the loot via salvaging kits you buy from vendors. You take these ingredients to a NPC crafter, pay a fee, and get your gear. There are ample materials to go around.
There are also upgrades you can get for pieces of class-specific equipment. You can buy special hilts for your swords, or runes to use. I'm not familiar enough with them to comment any more than that, but www.gwonline.net may have some guides that can be helpfull.
One more "crafting" feature is dyeing your armor. I'll assume you are familiar with it since you said you've done some research. One kind of hidden feature: you can mix different colored dyes on the same piece of armor. For example, you can dye something purple then put black dye on top of it to get a dark purple. Up to 4 vials of dye can be used on any piece of armor. Oh, and using dye remover, doesn't get you your old dye back. It has no effect on gameplay that I know of, it's just for show.
I hope that helps. www.gwonline.net has more in depth guides about this stuff if you're interested.
Hope to see you in game.
edited because i cant spel wirth a dam
Guild Wars is still an MMO.
I wonder if he have friends at all.
Anyway, it depends on your connection and computer speed. If you haven't enter a map in the game, the game will download it and decompress it on the loading screen. For me, I have a P4 2.8Ghz, 1.5GB memory, GFX 5700, and a DSL 3Mbps connection. It took me about 3-4sec to download and 1-3sec to decompress it. Now, if you have already enter the map, the computer speed only count. It took me about .5-1sec.
Don't worry, there are some nice people in the game that will party with you (unlike the other guy. from his attitude, it explains why he didn't have a party at all. If he have friends, he shouldn't be complaining.) On lvl 1-8, you will be on Pre-Ascalon, before the Searing or, put it simply, before the destruction of Ascalon, so the quests are relatively easy. There might be one quest that have big mobs but if you skip it and lvlup, you can do it later on.
Nobody gives respect, you need to earn it. With posts and attitude like that, no wonder you didn't get any groups.
Since this guy hates the game so much, see if he'll give you his, and yes, his meager (I'm sure) stuff too!
Ever heard of "whispering" or "private messaging"? Still playing those caveman games with sticks?
Also, IT'S NOT AN MMORPG, it says that on the site, it's a CORPG, Competitive Online Role Playing Game. You really need to get your facts straight.
Lol how do you whisper someone that you dont even know the name of? Most of the people I talked to in town didnt answer and just ran away.. So I was forced to go outside of town, constantly dying so I figued i'd hire some helpers, so all I did was stand there and watch the fight. Fun eh?
The post might have gone a little over the top, but I just rreally regretted buying this game. I was so hyped about it, installed it, launched it to a huge dissappointment. I played the alpha version, and even that was better than the retail version of Guild Wars..
Buy it, regret it.
The only thing I somewhat agree with in this post is no.2, but not because everything is instanced. Pick groups are a pain to find unless you're a Monk, and yes, I have personally experienced this in GW. I have a 20 Ranger that I had to constantly spam LFT over a span of 10-20 minutes in order to get a team, but it's VERY different for my Monk. With my Monk, I could just stand around in Thirsty River, Ring of Fire, or anywhere for that matter and not say one word and get 2-3 invites to teams in a matter of 1-2 minutes top.
1. It's a MMORPG, just not your traditional MMORPG and the creators would rather CALL it a CORPG. See: www.guildwars.com
3. For you it is......
4. No MMORPG or any game for that matter is truely better then one or another because it's all based on personal preference.
5. You already stated that....
6. I'm working on my third character already and have run into VERY few bugs if any.
7. Third time you stated that......your point.
Conclusion:
1.Personal preference.
2. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but check the game out FULLY before you decide to buy it. What does that mean: videos, screenshots, reviews, (logical) player opinions.
3. Don't like it, don't buy it.
uh huh..... it sucks so bad that 250,000 to 300,000 other people bought it. I wonder what the numbers would be if people actually liked the game..... sheesh......
its a fun little game, thats about it.
if your looking to join a mmorpg where you will be immersed and 'move in' for awhile, this isnt it. its basicly a dungoen siege like game, where its just you and your party(or bots) hunting...only difference is the chatrooms are towns/outposts.
if you play alot you will find yourself at 'endgame' wher ebasicly you either farm/run same couple missions over and over/pvp battle rather quickly.
i myself play alot, too much infact. and i had to delete a max lvl char(only 4 slots, max lvl 20, hardcore gamer take a couple days to get there even not knowing anyting at start) to make a new one already and ive been playing what, a month if that.
but as far as loading/bugs..its fine, no real bugs and loading takes a couple seconds max.
1) Whatever
2) If you dont talk to other people, you will never group. It is no harder to group then in any other game.
3) Thats an opinion, what is it based on? whats your comparison? I guess if you dont like lots of missions and quest it could be boring.
4) again, give a comparison or example of whats better. WoW is a great game but has a different focus.
5) ???
6) example please???
7) ???
Its a really good game. The focus is mainly on combat and missions/quest. Later it shifts to PvP if you want. Everything is instanced which helps cut down on a lot of griefing type problems. However, if you like having lots of random people running by, you wont see them here. The mission system gives a "linier" play feel but there are also instanced areas to just hunt and do quest in that do not tie into the missions. You can go from Ascalon to Lions Arch without doing the missions but I think it would be difficult to do.
The guy who wrote this is just a troll who is looking to stir things up. He didn't put any effort into backing up any of his statements just flamed. A critic of anything should ALWAYS be able to backup what he says with specific example. If you dont then you are not a "critic". This guy now has no credibility to any post he makes.
Well, i must admit i find the game a bit boring after the first few hours, but i haven't tried the PvP part yet.
For me the worst part is the babilon tower the towns are, I'm Spanish, and speak English and a bit of French, but when I enter a town, i'm overwelmed with messages for people in different languaes all mixed. I wish they could 'filter' towns instances based on language or something.
Ok,
Here is your second post. It sheds no light whatso ever on anything other then the fact you dont like the game.
You ask for "respect" but show no one any yourself.
You do not support your position at all. No examples no logical critisms...nothing. All you have done is demonstrated that you can swear, show no respect yourself, and are not able to support your own claim of the game being bad. Rather then argue for your statement you have simply lashed out as would a child.
Make a case. Convince the guy asking that the game is no good. Sit and think about it and put something together.
I have bought the game and i don't regret it. I like the fact that on the outside world it is only you and you party, that part of the game takes away alot of the shit that i don't like about other MMO's( and yes i know it is not really a MMO but a CORG) like people who just ran about and take item as other people kill them or how sometimes it is hard to find monsters to lvl up becuase evereyone else has killed them and respawning take some time. I mean sure, this type of game is not for everyone and Marund you are most diffenently one of those people. I think is a great game and as long as they keep EXP packs coming out and keep the game free to play online, this game with diffenently be i game i will continue to play.
Honstely. purchasing this game for 49.99 isn't throwing money away. Most games u buy for console u play about 20 hours total-40 hours and don't touch again. This is a game like that to me. I have played about 25 hours of this game and I still have it installed but frankly i'd rather play Mindsweaper than Guild Wars anymore
The game itself is Beatiful with little to NO lag.
It's easy to level in and think of the item system as Diablo 2 random generated items.
The Music isn't EQBad but not something i'd rock out to.
For the casual gamer it's fine! If you have friends to play the game along side you i'm sure it'd be much better!
My downsides to this game are:
Everything until level 20 is mainly Instance based Solo/Computer AI help Grinding
At level 20 it's all about 12 year olds kickin ur 28 yr old butt at pvp!
You get bored easily!!!!
Not much u can do to feel unique!
Bottom line- If your a hardcore MMORPG fan who has NO PROBLEM paying per month for the game because they realize that the money they spend each month goes to pay the people upgrading/updating/maintaining the game, then Guild Wars isn't right for you.
Let this game stay on the market labeled as the POOR KIDS MMORPG. Or "GUILD WARS: MY MOMMY WON'T LET ME USE HER CREDIT CARD-EPISODE 1"
To get back on topic...
The load times can be annoying the first time that you zone into an area because that's when the needed data is downloaded but are a few seconds every other time. I have a low end cable modem and have never had a load slower than 15-20 seconds for the first time. But even then, it is usually faster and that only happens one time. All the load times to repeat areas (for me anyway) are a matter of moments.
Sometimes I get dropped because I'm behind a router. I think that there is a way to fix that but I'm to lazy and that doesn't happen very often anyway. There are other drops every so often but this isn't really something that can be avoioded with a mmo and they are few and far between. (And the servers are never down.)
They will add other stuff, as time goes on but none of what you have listed is a priority. The guild halls are very cool though and they should be adding some much-needed functionallity to those in the near future. You can make armor and weapons and customize them (for your character) but it's not the same thing I think you are looking for. GW will never be a craft game though, the devs have stated this from the start. This game really isn't a traditional mmorpg. But it's the best mmorpg I've ever played, despite its lack of tradeskills and general grind.
Guild Wars is known to crash fairly often some people's computers. Go to the GW website and follow the links to the various fan based msg forums. It seems to either work great for some, or, hits the person's computer with BSoDs or lockups about once every half hour.
I used to have additional problems with the game, but, *knock on wood*, the last few days have been fairly smooth.
Bar none, the most annoying thing for me about Guild Wars is that you often have to start a mission over completely. In this respect it's similar to a single player game with no save points anywhere in the current mission - it's either complete, or do over.
So if you get disconnected, have a technical issue or simply lose the mission you get to do every little bit of it over again. When you log back in your character will be at the last city or outpost that you visited.
Argh. It's driving me nuts.
Even with the above issues I still recommend getting it. It is a fun game and is worth the box price. If nothing else, the lack of the monthly fee means that you can spend a few days away from the game without feeling pressured to play to get your monthly fee's worth out of it.
Take it for what it is. Not a MMOG, but a game that you can load up and play whenever for however long you want and do so with friends or guilds. It's like a fantasy version of an FPS, or perhaps put more accurately, a fantasy Counter-Strike of sorts.
~Mysk
thats not true.
i haven't used NPC henchmen since like, level 2. groups are not difficult to get together
[we need a worldwide genocide/ a planetary suicide/ and when the whole damned world is dead/ there''s your f***ing peace]
load times for the most part are non-existent in this game....everything is instanced, but the load times are so quick you dont reall notice......if item creation is your thing this game might not be for you.....but there are definitely awesome things to this game...mainly the storyline missions (especially towards the end), the PvP and GvG combat
