Looking for any games that let you play this role. For those who are unsure what I mean, I mean knights that use death magic such as summoning undead, causing fear, death and decay to their enemies and also health drains.
Games I have already played with such roles:
Age of Connan
DarkFall
Dungeons & Dragons
Everquest both first and second
Final Fantasy XI
Guild Wars
Rift
Lineage 2
Vanguard
Warhammer Online
World of Warcraft
EDITED: Because some people don't seem to understand the term "knight" in the name, a heavy armored class but in this case favours 2 handed weapons, normally a sword or a scyphe rather than sword and board though can be seen using a shield if need be.
oh and to add to my list, of course I already know of Everquest, I do/have played Everquest 2 as mentioned, I forgot to mention I've played Vanguard also.
Comments
Everquest 1 had shadow knights
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Most games call this a Necromancer, Dark Wizard, or quite a few other things that really don't relate to a "Knight" at all.
Got a Game Idea? Look Here!
WOW Vanguard EQ2 EQ off the top of my head..
I guess I should have mentioned wears heavy armor and normally wields 2 handed weapon, favours scyphes or swords? >_>
WOW, you have ZERO idea what you're talking about.
[Edit]: I'd also like to point out the OP had a clear definition of what a ShadowKnight is. He was correct...
First off, a Necromancer and a Shadowknight are TWO different classifications ENTIRELY. The "Necromancer" is a spell caster specifically in the study of raising the undead to fight FOR them, and using their resurrected slain foes to destroy their enemies.
A SHADOWKNIGHT (butchered by WoW to "DeathKnight"), is normally a fallen Paladin that calls upon the powers of death magic to ENHANCE his already strong melee abilities. SOMETIMES a ShadowKnight will delve deeper into the realm of death magic enabling them to summon weakly minions, similar to a necromancer...but less focus on the spell casting part, to protect them.
To Recap:
-Necromancer is a spell caster whos primary school of magic is Death Magic, primarily focused on diseases, poisons, plagues, necromancy (raising the dead).
-ShadowKnights are fighters who are enhancing their melee combat prowess WITH Dead Magic, this can include auras of death, *some* forms of weaker planar mind control, weak levels of Death Magic minion summoning, blade enhancements etc.
They are TWO distinct types of classifications, and NEITHER are ever mistaken for the other. World of Warcraft does NOT make you anywhere near qualified to speak on the subject .
Just thought i'd edjumacate (intentional spelling, figure it out) some people who didn't know ! Hope I helped...
**On Topic**: The only games I know that do ShadowKnights CORRECTLY has been EQ, EQ2 (stretching it a bit), Shadowbane (you could combine multiclass runes to make an SK), and MAYBE Darkfall (again, multiclassing).
Hope this helped you OP !

as listed, Dreadknight in Vanguard, ShadowKnight in EQ and EQ2.
I believe the palus knight (dark elf tank branch) in Lineage 2 has similar abilities too (been ages, can't remember). upcoming Sith melee class in SWToR might fit the bill, other than that I can't think of any others that come to mind.
Yeah.. I kinda forgot to say I tried Lineage 2 but that was quite a few years back, not really my thing ^_^; As for SWToR, I know and I'm eagerly waiting for it but thats not for a long time til release so I kinda need something I can play with now. I asked for this specific class as I quite enjoy it in the titles I have mentioned but I'm growing bored of those titles.
First of all, thanks for clearing that thing up about Necro vs D/S-Knight, I really don't get how someone could assume I meant Necromancer but I guess they never played a game with the two in them? *shrugs* Unfortunately the suggestions haven't helped alot as SB has sadly died (yes I know its being emulated, but who knows when that'll be out?) and Darkfall I just couldn't et into, I only did some of the begining quests before I ended up leaving cus I got lost and ganked >_>
Lol nice video, but you can't honestly think you can state falsities about what a ShadowKnight, or Necromancer, is considered without someone correcting you ?
That'd be like me claiming that a Ford Mustang is the same thing as a Kia Forte. It just isn't acceptable !

Rift has some shadow knight type class...
Heavy armor, uses spells and attacks that apply DOTs to enemies.
Little forum boys with their polished cyber toys: whine whine, boo-hoo, talk talk.
Age of Conan has a similar class called the Dark Templar.
Like the OP, I tend to gravitate towards these classes too. Dark unholy heavy armored sword wielders. So naturally, I chose a Dark Templar in AoC. Played a Dreadknight in Vanguard too and loved it.
Dark and bloody theme.. is requiem Online? my brother played thsi game... just that I don't like the dark one ......
the blackguard or chosen from Warhammer online somewhat fit the bill, though they dont really have much for summons but they have a few spells that are what can be considered 'blood magic' . I know its not exactly what your looking for but atleast i didnt suggest eq2 or rift

the soul is called Reaver. reminded me of the reaver class in DAoC as well. Uses death in just about everything it does.
I kinda forgot to mention I've also played WAR ^_^; But yeah, I did say I played the other two games and yet people are still suggesting them, go figure.
ah, well theres faxion the evil side warrior is kinda like a sk. I wish there were more games with the sk class, so much fun

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't like it.
