The server has great up time now, and have had since the start of the free trial. Then, they had some problems, but it is gone now! They take the server down sometimes manually to tweak/fix/patch it even better, but that usually just takes some minutes and it is up again!
Try the game again, and you will see! Do not listen to some here who claims the server crashes 10 times a day, that is not the case anymore!
The game was released what, 8 months ago? And they deserve applause for keeping the servers up for 16 hours? LOL!!
This is not a flame post but really, if this is what you expect for your 15 bucks per months I assume you dont have high expectations of MMORPGs.
Isn't it?
Seriously though, you're right; we're playing MO because we have depressingly low expectations. We have low expectations because every MMO we've tried before MO sucked so hard... so now we're playing MO, until something better comes along.
If you want me to say the exact same thing with fanboy wording: Mortal Online is the best MMO I've ever played. Because of this, I don't give a damn about server crashes.

Every MMO "WE" tried before sucked? I don't know who you're refering to as "WE"...
Perhaps have you not tried hard enough? Personally, EverQuest 1, prior to Luclin expension release, (so 1999-2002) was the best MMORPG that was ever made. And it was pretty sandbox, tho not really PvP oriented.
If you"re only interested in full loot PvP then I'd say DarkFall Online is a much better game than MO with in addition, a great world for exploration and very good PvE...
If you're looking for roleplay and PvE, LOTRO is one of the best game I've seen, yes there are instances, but the game works great, is well designed and is loads of fun, with really good RP tools.
And lately, for the really sandbox part, there is this Xzyion (or whatever the spelling is) that looks great and seems to really be the true definition of being sandbox unlike MO which is a medieval online deathmatch with everything revolving around PvP.
by the way if by "WE" you were defining the long time MO supporters, I would say some don't seem to be as enthusiastic and forgiving as you :

Old school UO was better than MO. Shaowbane was better than MO. I do not see why people think MO is "the best game ever". Unless they are going on potential and what it could be on paper. It is too broken most of the time to be good. Long time players regularly take breaks because they are so frustrated with dealing with bugs and exploits.

Ah yes, almost forgot about Shadowbane. It was indeed better than MO and if it died then what chance does MO have? Why did it die btw?

I think shadowbane was agame before its time. It tried to do to much. And I think the tech at the time would not let it do it. Having 300 people in one location for a fight back then was worse than a slide show.

I was disappointed after downloading the free trial lastnight.
Got into the game walked a few steps and it 'froze', waited 30 seconds or so and i managed to take another few steps before it froze again.
Restarted the game, dropped graphics to minimum thinking that may be the problem. Logged back in and just the same, freezing up every few steps.
Is this a typical problem?
no jacko it is not
it sounds like your psu is not giving enough juice to your gpu, what are your specs? I have gtx 260 and game runs around 70-80fps at min and 30-40 on max, at stock.
Also it could also be a harddrive ploblem, but recently I had what you described , it was because my psu could not meet the needs of my gpu so the system was unstable.
also do you overclock? and have you tried defragging your house drive? also mortal online is quite a intensive game so if you come from wow with something like a 8800gts or something, expect 30 fps on min or something or even 20.
sounds like somethign wrong with your system to be honest if it happens every couple secs, could be a driver issue? what graphics card do you have? also have you tried lowering sound quality, your onboard sound might not be enough for the game, also waht is your cpu? and ram?
the reason why people love mo is
1. its targetting a audience of certain players, you either love it or hate it
2. its better then every game currently on the market
3. it hasn't messed up features, theres just room for improvement.
4. the potential is amazing and the devs direction for the game is candy to your ears.
5. it may be bare but it has something that just keeps you playing and checking back on it
6. its hardcore!
7. complex systems that intervene with each other in mysterious ways
8. first person
9. combat is twitch base
10. seemless world, no loading, no zones
11. semi realisic
12. medievil feel, with a touch of fanstey
13. gritty
14. goes to lenghts no other mmo has gone before (even having cannbalism and naked people with full frontal bits)

1. its targetting a audience of certain players, you either love it or hate it wrong, many peolple just don't like it, find it mediocre, or used to like it and don't like it much now...very few "love it" and many "hate it". the audience you talk about are oldschool UO players and most certainly don't love it.
2. its better then every game currently on the market No its not. or else the world of gaming would know about it. Its buggy, unfinished, and not even sandbox, how can it be better than games like LOTRO or DarkFall?
3. it hasn't messed up features, theres just room for improvement. This is like saying about the challenged kid in the corner isn't hopeless to get to become a harvard graduate, he'll just need more time.
4. the potential is amazing and the devs direction for the game is candy to your ears. So far the devs directions have mostly been a bunch of lies and unfinished features. How long was Tindrem supposed to be there?? no its no longer candy to the ears, just bs.
5. it may be bare but it has something that just keeps you playing and checking back on it right, it keeps you playing so much that population is less than 300 at peak times and that SV are losing so much money they had to sell a massive amount of shares and their stock fell to 0.38 SEK.
6. its hardcore! Usually another word for saying its bad.
7. complex systems that intervene with each other in mysterious ways Sorry I am too sober to understand.
8. first person at least we agree on that.
9. combat is twitch base combat is the worst of all features in the game since its client hit detection and we know what that means.
10. seemless world, no loading, no zones Yes, but a small, empty world with no variety or design to it. basically a terrain generator with just a little work on the cities.
11. semi realisic Yes to the extent of the useless nudity...
12. medievil feel, with a touch of fanstey which is basically what most other MMO's offer, just with more fantasy.
13. gritty whatever that means for a MMO, my guess is you were running out of things to repeat.
14. goes to lenghts no other mmo has gone before (even having cannbalism and naked people with full frontal bits) right, nudity is the most important thing in a MMO...so is cannibalism...
Cannabalism isn't even in yet. Lets wait for it to be in and working before we give it kudos. And if it is the best game out there. Like I said in another thread. Why did it sell 20k boxes but under 2500 people are currently subbed, with maybe 300 at peak?

Haha, you can come from playing games like Crysis 2 with no FPS problems and then boot up MO and get graphical lag.
Thats true. But i managed to run MO on a laptop just fine on lower settings. And that is with a Core 2 Duo (Centrino) with 4 gigs memory and a GeForce 8600M GT. If I could run it on that, there should be no problems with similar Low-End stationary computers if the drivers and all necessary updates are there!?
On a more serious and cautionary note, MO was known - during Closed Beta - to cause Power Supply Units to burnout in several cases. I dont know if this particular problem could return, but yeah I'd be careful. If it can't run it in low, don't push it without at least backing up your data.

It sounds like people were messing around with the GPU power settings, or had too small of a power supply for their rig.

You would think, but it's been observed many times that even top builds sometimes will have FPS issues in MO when there are none in other games. It's also observed that "low" end PCs sometimes get great performance in the game on some of the high settings.

It's the way the game is coded...
I think a more likely explanation (certainly more likely than SV coding MO to run perfectly on low-end computers) is that, just like every computer game, there's millions of possible hardware and driver configurations, some of which conflict with certain other software/hardware configurations, which results in some PC games performing differently than others on that machine.
I'm sure there's a way to blame SV for the nature of PC games in general, but I'll leave that attempt to the experts.

Ever heard of Direct X?
Different hardware configurations shouldn't be a problem, and they aren't when it comes to any other decently coded game.

Yeah, I've heard of it. I've worked with it. It doesn't do what you claim it does. Granted, I haven't read every single patch notes for directX, so I'll eat humble pie if DX now promises to resolve every hardware and software compatibility issue in every computer on which it's installed.
every single game forum has threads that say "my rig can run x, why can't it run this?". Seriously, every single one.

Are you joking? No seriously...
The Unreal Engine is designed around DirectX, and DirectX is amazing when it comes to hardware/software compatibility.
But go ahead and blame DirectX, with literally every single other PC game using DirectX it's clearly DirectX's fault that MO doesn't work cross platform.
Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about.

I'm not blaming DirectX, I'm just saying it doesn't resolve all compatibility issues, and that the issues that are being ascribed to SV are present in every game.

Cannabalism isn't even in yet. Lets wait for it to be in and working before we give it kudos. And if it is the best game out there. Like I said in another thread. Why did it sell 20k boxes but under 2500 people are currently subbed, with maybe 300 at peak?
Was going to reply to Batal's post but you did a better job than I could have. So...
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
Haha, you can come from playing games like Crysis 2 with no FPS problems and then boot up MO and get graphical lag.
That says it's the game, not one's computer.
