LF a game to duo in

chrisjba83chrisjba83 Member Posts: 18

So basically my brother and i are looking for a game to play mostly just the two of us together. We have played WoW and its

gotten boring. We would like a big world to explore with dungeons and stuff that mayjust the two of us could go through. Player

housing would be a plus but not that important. We arent into the anime style graphics either, it can be p2p f2p. Im leaning

towards vanguard. We have also tried Dcuo, lotro ( way too many quests ) and we played the heck out of asherons call back in

the day, any suggestions?

Vanguard is a very good choice.  You can do the two week free tial.  Get the game on ebay for 5 bucks.  That will give you 45 days of play for 5 bucks.  Great deal and enough time to find out if the game is for you.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

For player housing you could try Star Wars Galaxies, its not as good as it use to be but still has a big world with alot of content and good player housing. Everquest 2 also has good player housing and a ton of content. And then theres Vanguard like you mentioned. All these games have trials so I'd go ahead and check them out.

As for fun games to play with other people I've been playing Stat Trek Online and had a blast just because the ship combat is so different from the fantasy MMO's I've been playing so you could check out the demo of that game. Rift is a pretty good game atm, but if your bored of WoW you might be bored of rift too.

Speaking of Vanguard I have heard good things about it, I almost bought it myself but I just got turned off when I found out the devs havent updated the game in more than a year. It has a trial so make sure you check that out first.

I'd just suggest to take some time before you buy one and test out all the free trials.

Both of us are more into slower games and exploring. Kind of just going into a place we havent been and finding caves to wander into even if there is no super cool boss or loot at the end. So far vanguard sounds like that might be the fit. Ill read up on eq 2 also though i never thought about that one.

If you don't mind the outdated ui and graphics you could give Everquest a try and maybe Final Fantasy XI.

Guild Wars is another game with a large world, it's buy to play without any subscription fees but doesn't have any sort of housing.

Yeah both Vanguard and EQ2 have huge worlds to explore and player housing, EQ2 does have more content though and a higher population but I found Vanguard to be a bit more fresh. You can't really go wrong with either one so I'd try out the trials and see which you prefer.

Oh and even if your not to interested in SWG I will say the world is huge and fun to explore, the 10 major plantest are all about 100 square km and theres also a bunch of smaller planets to explore.

I'd highly recommend EQ1 instead of EQ2 if this is the case. EQ2 isn't about slow paced exploring while taking your time. EQ1 is exactly that though.

This doesn't mean the new EQ1 progression server is for you though. Whether you pick the progression server or the normal servers I think depends on how fast you want to gain XP and have the content open up, etc.

If you're interested in exploring, deffinately do SWG. The game has become a LOT more linear and less sandboxy over the years but the map is still there. There is also a player housing system that is one of the best in any MMO out there. It also features a very in depth crafting system if you're interested in that.

I remember when I played the most recent itterations of the SWG world. I simply plopped down a house near a town on naboo after about level 10 and explored the whole planet on my speeder. Got killed a fair share of times but made a lot of friends along the way. I went from being a jedi, to a commando, to a smuggler, to a spy and by the time I hit level cap I was back to Jedi. There are tons of caves you can venture through along with missions that send you out to a semi-random place on the map for exploring. There are also exploration planets towards the end-game like Endor (I believe) that have really powerful monsters and dungeons that  you can look for. if you find a good spawn of them you can hunt them for a level or so, skin them, and take their hides to armor dealer who will probably buy them for a fair ammount. One of my favorite experiences on the game was hunting on Lok for Gurks who drop resources for high level armor. Not only did it net me a free set of armor, but also a couple million credits.

It's a decade old game but DAoC has tons of content from dungeons to battlegrounds to frontiers.  Theres jjust one server cluster now but when last I played a few months back it was packed with 3000+ players at peak.

They have a free 14 day trial... the only downside is that it's an old game so no shiny graphics and the network code looks it's age.  It's a great game for duoing though.
