Black Prophecy: European Live Service Begins

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Gamigo has announced that live service for Black Prophecy has now begun in Europe. Characters created during open beta will remain. Additionally, North American and Russian players can play on EU servers with existing characters. Once Russian and North American servers are live, however, there will be no character transfer and players will have to reroll.

As of today the Black Prophecy European live service has started. On two servers, European players are invited to begin their journey into Black Prophecy’s exciting universe.

Players who have already participated in the open beta phase will keep their existing accounts but have their characters and clans wiped. In appreciation for the past months of testing we have prepared a small surprise package with some premium items that players who have played since beginning of the open beta will find in their premium storages.

US beta servers will be up in 48 hours and invites will be sent. If it goes as with EU beta, they start with 100 invites and a coyuplf of 100s more the weeks following.

Might as well be an other schedule than EU beta's though, since the game is fully released, and the US will get a stress-test immediately...

The Black Prophecy not a bad game, but...

    1. The game borrows heavly from previous space sim games like Freespace and Freelancer. The whole thing of swarn enemies fighting thogether against a common unknown threat is nothing new. Yet the main plot is just silly at times and it feels I could rewrite it better. If you after interesting plot I suggest to get Freespace 1 and 2 with Freespace Open mod or even the Freelancer. On the top of that, the whole thing you are the chosen one in multiplayer game is just tiring and unlogical from the point of view of the unfolding plot.

    2. The way GUI works is horrendous, games like Freespace or Freelancer years ago had better GUIs, especially when it comes to targetting different types of targets, scanning, looting, interacting with NPCs.

    3. AI of the enemy ships in PvE is just poor, yet again titles like Freespace, Freespace 2 or Freelancers offer much more fun and bigger challenge. Most of the time they don't even try to dodge your fire and shot you down only if you happen to encounter much higher level ship with bugged weapons and you are stupid enough to cross its line of fire.

    4. The ship handling is rather poor so is the speed of ships. I suppose on much higher levels it gets better, but even then I expect it to be far from fast action of already mentioned by me single player / multiplayer titles.

    5. The game is heavly instanced and there is a reason behind it, it seems to handle poorly groups of players bigger then 20 in one instance.

    6. The main plot missions and the generic missions from NPCs lack epicness and variety. Capital ships don't show up often enough.

    7. The whole game seems to offer three models of ships: Sapiens model, Tyi and Genaides. Despite the customization options, it feels like the game is far behind of games like Freespace, Freelancer where you could fly various types of light interceptors, heavy fighters, bombers and transporters.

    8. Using GUI while looting or talking to NPCs, interacting with some objectives as I mentioned is horrible. It makes you to lose control over your ship and often requires from you to stop otherwise you will see your ship ramming in objects while you can't do anything about it.

    9. The crafting last time I checked require from you to watch a bar for 25 minutes when you CAN NOT do anything else. The only way to change it is by...buying a token from the premium shop. I think it was the last nail in the coffin.

    10. The whole PAY to WIN design is just a laugh. I rather buy once an AAA* shooter or flight simulator with good multiplayer then pay to stay competitive.

    11. Lack of balance. ( I assume it will get iron out )

    12. Gets boring fast due:

    - not challenging AI, low AI health and shields ( you may partly bypass that problem by taking missions with much higher level then yours )

    - lack of variety of ship classes

    - lack of manable ships bigger then a fighter.

    - at times silly plot. Just one example: you get framed and used and in the result few thousands of Genaids and Tyi die, yet both sides are eager to accept you as their pilot...

    My marks ?

    6/10

It would be even 8/10 if not the lack of balance, poor GUI, not challenging pve, the poor plot and pay to win issues.

the more I hear about this game the less I am into it. They need to write a book and quit. Then the story will make sense, there's no GUI or balance issues, and you don't need to pay to win cause you can sit in B&N all day for free.

There's a link to the game client at the bottom of the left side menu on their site. Or a direct link here - http://blackprophecy.com/index.php?id=20

It's several files for a total of around 5.5 GB, although when I downloaded it their servers were quite fast, maxing out my 50 Mbit connection most of the time across the four main files.
