I long for a old school Ultima Online type game with good graphics

I played Ultima Online from 1997-2002 I LOVE IT.

Since then I have played Star Wars Galaxies, EverQuest, City of Heroes, LineageII.  None of these games put together rocks as hard as old school UO did back in the days before UO was gimped by non-pvp safe zones, insurance, and no looting.

LineageII is a cool game... I like the PvP but there is no content, the crafting system is worthless, and the economy is insane.  Star Wars Galaxies has a great crafting system but there is not enough PvP.

I want a MMORPG with a totally OPEN PvP system, Skill based not grindcore level based or dependant on 60 million dollars EBayed weapons.  I want looting, housing, a good crafting system great content a sweet combat system, and good graphics.

Any suggestions?

So far the only thing that looks like it will work for me is DARKFALL but it isnt even in beta yet

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass... and Im all out of bubble gum

Check out Irth Online...it has open Civilisation vs Civilisation pvp, looting, housing, completely skill based, huge map...

Only "safe zone" is by creating character in non-pvp civilisation but then you'll miss 60% of the game.

Sure it doesn't have superior EQ2 level graphics but lots better than UO and greater than Shadowbane.

I know how you feel ... but the reality is:

There will never be a game as good as your first captivating MMORPG (UO) and no game shall ever have the content and gameplay and just uberness as UO once did... the graphics of UO are poor ... the graphics of WoW are great.. but there was far more to do in UO than there is to do in WoW.

Anyway, to sum it all up... nothing will ever compare to original (old skool) UO

Get on with life, forget MMORPGs (its what i'm trying to do) ;) my friends all play old skool UO custom servers and some still play UO today... i miss it like craaaazy too

I have been looking at games such as Freeworld and games still in production, but on release they follow the statistics not what players actually want it seems... what makes money and what is easiest to them.

Just continue on, I think it will be years before another decent game is released which has tons of content and unlimited possibilities and isn't the same as the games i've grown to hate of which you speak of... for me it all depends on PVP

my thing is I like to play games where it doesnt restrict my actions much like UO, where you could pretty much do whatever you wanted, ....... I mean you could kill in the streets if thats what you liked doing

bleh I hate the way some games are just copying eachother like WoW pretty much stole everything from DAOC and slapped a blizzerd sticker on it

theres no innovation these days it seems like I see three types of games:

lineage type games where you go from one class to another and you get your guild trying to take a small number of castles

EQ2/WoW type games where you quest for hours but then get bored

and then theres Open PvP games like Oldschool UO but last one of those I saw truly was Shadowbane and we all know how that turned out

I played UO from 2000-2003... *snif*

I still miss it, yes... If only they got off their buttoxes and made a new client for it - I left because of the graphics, yes... I think they really need to stop it with the land expansions and remake the game.

The only thing that comes close to UO, sadly, is SWG - everything else is either class based (no freedom in skills - and i HATE that) or ridiculously boring.  Yes, darkfall looks like its got promise but heh - is it ever going to come out?  hehe who knows - the devs post every 6-8 months on their boards so i lost faith there.

SWG is nice, i can go and do what i want, when i want - and i dont have to follow a certain path/quest throughout the game to have fun.

well dude, lets keep this thread alive, and if anyone finds the answer to your question, man do i wanna kno0w coz im there.

I heard EVE online may be something what your looking for. I don't know if they have housing or a good crafting system, but the pvp is like almost no rules there I think. Its sci-fi though.

Irth Online and Dark and Light come closest but both are still in beta testing.  Niether has the completely open pvp that old-school UO had but the restrictions are fairly mild compared to other released pvp games.

I've been playing EVE online for almost 5 months now and of the things you require it has:

    - open pvp system: every solar system has a rating from 0.0-1.0. In a 0.0 system you can shoot everyone...

    - skill based leveling: there are no levels! You train skills and specialize in a certain field(s). You are completly free to chose one or more career paths...

    - looting, good craft system (factories, research labs...), content (all player generated), good combatsystem...

    - great graphics

I'd definitly recommend you to try out the 14-days free trial, although I think you need at least one month to be able to judge it due to its complexity. Join a good corporation (guild) and get invovled in EVE politics which are the main source of PVP and content. Only "tradeoff", it's not a fantasy setting, but rather sci-fi...

    AWESOME GAME!!! ::::08::

True, EVE is a great. I played the 14-days trial, but I can't compare that game to games like UO or Tibia (the way they once were). Tibia is a crappy game, with crappy graphics and crappy gameplay, however, if you played it two years ago you would understand what EnolaGay is looking for.
The game felt so alive all thanks to the community.

Things which died after a major update -

The PVP and the community: The pvp was so exciting even tho the graphics were lame. Player-made wars, people really hating eachother, Guilds vs Guilds, powerabusers vs player-made alliances, Guilds putting prices on players heads, and of course random PlayerKillers. It was so cool, you felt the adrenaline rush in your body during pvp conflicts. And in the cities you could actually see how players really hated eachother, bringing their friends for revenge after being killed. It was like a second world, but this world was cruel yet exciting.

Things which still exist in Tibia -

Player driven economy : All servers have their own prices on items for sale.

Community: It's still there, but it's not as fun as before. Reason? - Because they gave the game a new function "The Skull system", Attack a player get a white skull, and everyone's free to attack you without getting the skull. Kill more than 5 players on one day, get a red skull, works as the white skull but this one stays very long and you'll lose all your items once killed. And the worst thing of all is that if you "mass-pk" (lol 6 players a day!) you'll get a 7 days ban, if you do the same thing after the ban, you'll get a 30 days ban, and if you do the same thing after that ban, you'll get DELETED! . This is what turned players into cowards. You can play on PVP enforced servers but with the lack of players, I don't know..

So when will a game like the former Tibia and UO be released? Of course games like WoW, GW, CoH, EVE etc are good, but they just feel like a game to me, I want something more.

*Sorry for the long post, and misspellings*
