Hi, just heard of this rather new game a couple of days ago.
Reason why im asking if it is a game i should buy, is because it seems like an awesome game, but i've been looking at forums like this one etc. and there seems to be quite a lot of negative threads about the game
But it still seems like a good game, and it is sharing a 1st place in Hype with GW2 (8,71 atm) so i would like to hear what people think of it. Should i buy it?
Get your own opinions out there, pros/cons of the game, compare it to other games, i don't care, i just want to hear what you think of it.
Comments
i think you should buy it.
The game is pretty solid, to me its the combination of WOW, WAR but with better gfx.
If you are a hardcore player you might be bored fast tough.....but for casual gamers its realy a blast.
The negative posts you read?......well trolls will be trolls
To sum it up imho......its the new wow for me.....the community fairly ok for now.
hope this helps you.
Its your run of the mill quest grinding type MMO..
If you still have interest in those types of MMOs,you'll enjoy Rift.
Rifts/invasions add a nice twist,as does the combining of different souls.
If youre looking for something totally outside the box and 'innovative' you wont find it in Rift.
Dont even look to rift offical forum... There is many brats trolling Rift... Rift is awesome game and you should buy it
Can you define that?
It would be much easier to answer this questions if you told us what you like in games.
What MMOs have you played? What do you like/not like about them?
Since no game can please every player, its much easier to know something about the player before making a recommendation.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
what he means is that the quests are just like in wow....thempark.......but imo the rifts and invations make the variation in the game ok i think.
But thats mho.
Meaning you rely on quests as your main source to level up.
Been playing wow pretty much on and off, until cataclysm, kinda lost interrest in it there.
Been playing EVE aswell, think its pretty sweet, but i didnt start until a couple of years after the release, and it is impossible to catch up with the vet players, so quitted that again.
Been playing a little GW too, but it aint much
*EDIT* to sum up, wow is the MMORPG i've played the most by far
if you enjoyed wow in the past i think you will like Rift too m8.
but again just mho.
Yes you should buy it. Its a good game
But , i didnt buy it - why ?
There is wagon load of other great MMOs for free
LOTRO, POTBS, EQ2, CHAMPIONS, Ryzom, DDO
I dont think i will ever again pay subscription for a MMO
If you lost interest with WoW, I'm not sure how long Rift will hold you. If you enjoyed WoW, you'll enjoy Rift because they are very similar games. They aren't the same, by any means, but from a fundamental level they are very similar. Rift was made so that any WoW player could just pick up and play it. This is good and bad. Folks sick of WoW will get a temporary feeling of something new, but after a while it will probably be more of the same with a twist, as opposed to the something different they were seeking. Folks who still really love the ideas and mechanics behind WoW who are just looking for another game will be happily at home (for the mostpart) in Rift.
I always enjoyed EVE, but could never get passed the time-based leveling. You're right, no matter what folks say its far too difficult to be viable next to players who have been at it for years. Which is the point in EVE, they earned it but its hard to be a new player there. Pretty much in almost every conceivable way, EVE and Rift have little in common beyond being MMOs. If you're thirsting for a sandbox with a player driven economy, pass Rift over.
GW I can't say much about. I got it years ago and left it when I realized that it wasn't TRULY an MMO once you left town. So I pretty much only played that for an hour.
So I would go with your experience and feelings with having played WoW. Rift is newer, runs well, has better graphics and added a few nifty features (ie: skill tree freedom, Rift events), but it is still fundamentally very similar to WoW.

Never follow the hype, either the score or whay people are saying.
Will it kill you to pay for a month of the game? If yes don’t buy, if no then do and see for yourself.
YEah if you enjoy WOW then you will like Rifts.
Its a very similar cookie cutter mmo with a couple of things borrowed from other games as well like Warhammer to for the random rifts, and a similar class system to what AOC basically three skill sets to choose from but it is a bit more flexible than the AOC system as you havea bigger chocie of combat styles to choose but its the same idea.
It plays well as its using an old engine, grapihcs are better than wow but nothing amazing.
Combat and game play is your standard mmo style so coming from wow you will be able to jump right in without much of an issue.
No you don't, now stop hating and leave this forum to people who know what they are talking about and actually are playing the game.
What are the possibilities to raise your toon (no order of importance):
1. Quests / Dungeons / raids
2. Rifts
3. Pvp (both warfronts and world)
4. Crafting
5. Exploring = Artifact collecting.
I have 2 toons: I am leveling one purely on pvp the other through quest/dungeon/raid combo.
Why you should buy: it is a great combination of features which work in other known themeparks with a semi dynamic twist (Rifts).
Why you should not buy: if you expect either a fully next gen title (whatever the fuck that means) or a sandbox.
Cheers.
Hating? Im playing the game myself...
Did I say questing is the ONLY source of xp? no..I said it was the main source..
so stop being an ignoramous and leave this forum for people who would rather have a civil, rational discussion on this subject.
You don't convince me.
It is NOT the main source.
I dont need to convince you about anything..
it is what it is.
its different for someone else.....the guys just gave his opinion man thats all......relax
You are right .. apologies!
no worry's.....sometimes we chat with our emotions.....i have been guilty of that too (sometimes) hehe no hard feelings here
you quest to lvl..............
as stated befour, you can lvl different ways.....not just questing.
Quests main source? AoE grinding / Rifts nets me more xp/hr tbh AND gives more loot. I usually pick up a couple of quests too for the extra xp, but for me it's definitely not the main source.
Hi,
I really like the game a lot. I actually never even heard of it but I must have looked at it once cause I was invited to open beta 6.
I "was" a really hard core wow player and never meant to stop playing wow. I just can't put this game down. I haven't done anything in Wow form launch.

Rift invasions, Mounts at level 1,
OH! Being rewarded for exploration! You can climb a mountain and be thinking I know this is an area I am not supposed to be climbing....all a sudden you find a hidden artifact! WOW!
Also there are puzzles to find and if you solve them you get a really nice loot item.
Spoiler alert:
I was climbing a mountain the other day and found some squirrels around a torch. I walked up to the torch and it lit. The squirrels started dancing! So I /dance and got a Achievement. Ha how funny!!!
NO GOLD SPAMMERS! good job devs there!!!!
I only have 14 slot bags and 2 extra bank slots. I never find my bags are getting over full.
I always have plenty of cash.
Also I love the souls idea a lot.
The graphics on a high end machine are really nice indeed.
Let see....hum so much... Okay I also like the crafting a very much. Easy to progress at just the right speed and I find the potions I make are very useful.
Being able to have basically 4 toons all at once. As a rogue I can be a tank, healer, nasty assassin and a ranger with the click of a button.
Community is really good so far. I am in one of the best guilds I have EVER been in. "Defiant Elders", Everyone is over 30 and we have 400 members! Tons of stuff going on in vent.
There are a lot of things to like about Rift.
Dislikes or things that need fixed:
They need to understand that it is not necessary to dot the entire map with mobs that agro. Sometimes it's hard to go from point A to point B on your mount. With my toon I can stealth but others would have to fight a mob or send a pet and remount.
No guild banks...sucks for the poor saps who are holding crafting mats for others.
I hate that you can't shift click and item and the name of it shows up in the AH search box. Also no copy paste unless you use the out of game clip board.
Can not tame pets as a ranger. Bummer some of the beasts are cool. But, the ones they give you are cool too.
Bags are like wows bags and I hate that! I use onebag and onebank addon in wow....no addons allowed in rift yet.
The biggest problem with rift is I am an addict much like I was back when wow only had 60 levels...thought I would never have that prob again! =o
Well hope this helps you.

All depends on what you're looking for in an MMORPG. Rift plays like the standard theme park MMORPG, and if you enjoy that sort of game then this one is perfect for you.
i'm currently playing, but am a bit burned out on this design so it feels very been there, done that before to me. If you currently enjoy games designed like WOW or LotRO but are looking for a new world to explore than Rift might be just right for you.
It has pretty much the standard elements, level, classes, quest based progression, dungeons that you can do or entirely skip, raiding at end game and battleground PVP along with faction vs faction servers where there is more cooperation between factions than combat.
The "variation" they have which I find pretty good is the in depth role/ soul system that lets you pick a single class, cleric, mage, warrior or rogue (?) but within each class there are 8 "souls" you can mix and match to create your own sub type.
Each character can have 4 roles and within each role you can combine the abilities of up to 3 (out of 8 possible) souls.
So my Cleric has 3 roles created so far. I've got my PVE solo leveling role, which is a combination of Druid/ShamanWarden, then there's my group healing role, Warden/Sentinel/Purifier, and my third is for PVP, Purifer/Sentinel/Templar (Templar being the single, PVP specific soul in the cleric line, which you buy after earning enough PVP points to spend on it)
This system is quite good and makes for very interesting variations in sub types, with some folks actually guarding their builds because they feel they've hit on the magic forumula and have no plans to share. And interestingly enough, there are no perfect FOTM builds that I can find (at least for clerics), there's always several combinations that everyone says are the "perfect" cleric healer, or cleric pvp build, so its nice to not be pigeonholed into a single build.
The other big difference it the Rifts. These are random public quest events that occur just about everywhere in varying degrees of frequency. While not necessarily that interesting in design, pretty much 4-6 "phases" of either trash mobs or boss mobs which are more or less tank and spank encounters, (though some are pretty tough) and get more interesting at the higher levels.
You get varying levels of cool "planar" rewards for defeating Rifts and Rift bosses, which can be turned in for nice gear. The highest level Rift events in any zone show up automatically on your quest log if your in the zone, and generally everyone in the zone who is Rifting teams up to defeat the high level boss that shows up. (always try find these fights, you get great planar rewards)
If you play on a PVP server Rifts offer a unique opportunity to either cooperate with the other faction to take down a Rift or kill them off and keep the rewards for your own faction.
Last evening I was in a major Rift event and both factions were cooperating to kill the boss. But every now than then someone would try to kill someone from the other side, (collateral damage) and once the boss fight ended we quickly turned on our former alliies and it was a battle royale until we had slaughtered every last one. (was very big fun)
On other occasions I've let live and let live, and other times been killed without mercy. All in all, it spices up what I consider to be otherwise boring quest based leveling and keeps the game more fun but others seem to hate the Rifts and decry them.
So is Rift for you, depends what you're looking for. I'm really interested in a new MMO that is more sandboxy or employs some mechanics I favor from earlier games (DAOC 2 would be great) but in the meantime there's fun to be found in Rift if you take the time to enjoy what it offers and not worry too much about what it lacks.
