SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Gamigo has announced that the North American closed beta for Black Prophecy has been cleared to begin. Black Prophecy has already launched in Europe but this is the first time that North American players have had to play on localized servers.

Black Prophecy, gamigo's new action MMOG, recently launched in Europe, where it has already met great success. Today North American beta testing has been cleared for lift-off as well. The focus of this testing phase will be on balancing as well as optimizing the server hardware and software. gamigo expects Black Prophecy to be ready to go live in North America in a few weeks' time.

Read more about the game here.

Not even close. It's a 'themepark' compared to EVE and combat is very fast paced (arcade shooter style).

me thinks theres a lots of variables affecting how fast your ship turns or fires or moves etc and your maingun which is mousehand.

EVES buttonsmashing wowcombat is pretty themepark compared to Black Prophecys.

I must have the worst luck in the world when it come to getting into betas, I've been registered on the site and semi-active on the forums since April of 2009 and I still haven't gotten a beta invite... /cry

If you like instances and space, you'll like this game.

I don't mind instancing as long as the player-economy is very robust.

I got into the EU beta after waiting for a long time, but the game just  isnt that good. The potential is there but its a major theme park. You basically just do missions all the time and when your not doing missions your sitting in the space station.

    Is the entire game instanced?

That is a completely nonsensical statement. Combat has nothing, Nothing, to do with themepark to sandbox.

There is no NDA in effect?

If not, how is the PvP like?

I was in the european closed beta (and I'm in NA), and in my honest opinion what Naxrius said is half correct. You do missions, and that's it. That part was correct, but I wouldn't even call it a sandbox game though.... because there isn't even enough content for that to be true. It's more like an empty box with no sand. That said, playing with the box was entertaining for about 5 minutes.

There were a number of bugs and glitches I would have liked to report, however there was no way to do so as I couldn't access the beta section of the forums (even after following the instructions provided on the website). I tried mentioning this issue in the public forums and my comment was just deleted, and I was PM's by some mod slapping me on the wrist because of the NDA (apparently you can't even mention that you are in the beta, lol). Anyway I tried to contact mods/devs for a week before I gave up and shot off a PM to one of the mods giving them a piece of my mind, quiting the beta, and telling them to shove their NDA up their @**. Well they didn't like that, and banned me, haha!

So yeah, the developers seem to be more busy with moding the forums than actually hearing about bugs and issues from beta testers. Not only that but when some girl in the US tries for two weeks to get in contact with someone (and still never reaches anyone) then decides to give them a piece of her mind, they flip out and ban your IP from the forum. It's funny how they won't reply to beta issues, but if you toss around a few curse words you get a reply within an hour. In my opinion the people over at Reakktor Media are a bunch of cluelss coding clowns from Germany, and I wouldn't waste my time with them OR their game unless you're poor and actually can't afford to buy a decent game to play.

The PVP I took part in was laughable at best. It was a bunch of people flying around outside a station, shooting at eachother. You blow up then a few seconds later respawn outside the station in your ship, ready to do it all over again.... and it goes on like that until everyone gets tired of shooting at eachother. In other words it's pretty stupid, and extremely kiddy arcade like. I honestly expected something closer to Freelancer... but this is NO WHERE in the same league as Freelancer was.

God what I wouldn't give for an MMO that was ACTUALLY like Freelancer or Privateer/Privateer 2. Black Prophacy is definately NOT IT!

You get used to them. In version (EU) 0.9.4 it was horrible. You could not hit a ship, and the further away it was, the worse it became. Now with the (EU) release, you see where the ship you've targeted is heading (extra icon). If you shoot somewhere on that heading your chance to hit are pretty good...

*is happy not to be under NDA after EU release*

The controls respond afast enough, but they are so jerk y you can't smoothly slide in and target. It just leaps across the screen. I even turned my mouse sensitivity almsot all the way down.

Got one of the Beta Keys. Went to Black Prophecy link and tried to set up account. Found I already had an account with them from another beta test in past. Tried to follow links to download but it turned into an email nightmire. Don't care to spend more time trying to get a simple download so giving up in disgust. (Multiple emails/passwords/forums/accounts ugh....). I apologize for wasting a beta key. I appreciate letting me at least try anyway.
