Man what a sad world we live in where there aren't any breathing true-feeling virtual worlds and everyone has to have their own copy of a dungeon because they cant play nice together.
Instancing is good for some dungeons, craptacular for others.
It all comes down to context.
If there's a giant empty tomb, it makes some level of sense that I might run into another party of adventuerers in there doing exploring at the same time I am.
On the other hand, if I'm sneaking into the Liche King's castle, the guy that everyone is afraid of, and has beaten back entire armies..... I don't think I should be passing 2 or 3 other groups doing the same thing I am.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't mind a mixture of the two, some world dungeons, some instanced ones.
People playing nice isn't the main reason behind Instanced Dungeons. If that was the case then they failed. Also on topic, dare I say it but I think...Runescape

Actually Runescape has instanced dungeons. Their new dungeoneering skill requires you to progress through an instanced area.
Instancing was introduced to stop issues with several groups in the same dungeon, it works fine. Multiple layers of the same area is where we ended up though, that is detrimental to the concept of a MMO. Outside of small instances we should all be in the same zone playing together.

Well, yeah but the real reasons is that dungeons got smaller. In a huge dungeon there can be 3 groups without annoying anyone, but in the small modern dungeons there is just room for a single group.
I know that Blizzard say they instance just because they think you shouldn't have to wait in line but it is just half the truth.
Everquest 2 do fine with qa few open large dungeons and the rest smaller instanced. If the large dungeons are crowded you run an instance instead. Open dungeons are a problem during rush hour if the game have few or none instances, games that have both offers 2 kinds of dungeon gameplay, the large dungeons and smaller ones are rather different to play through.
Instancing all dungeons are dangerous, then the devs start to instance other stuff as well. Wow is only crowded in the cities today and that is because they instance everything.
Or simply dungeons where everyone can see each other?
Open non instanced dungeons like in Everquest, Meridian 59 and most older games.
If you are a newer player you might have seen then in Everquest 2 (like CK, RE, RoV and many other early places and a few in the newer expansions as well) or in Vanguard.
You have a large dungeon, bosses spawn on a timer, often with placeholders and you can spend 12 hours in there if you want to waiting for a certain rare boss to spqawn.

Ah, well, FFXIV has few of those too.
But I think that's going to change soon.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
Oh, I missed that myself but I never bought FF XIV, I heard warning bells about that game.
Anyways, a few open dungeons is just fun as long as they are large enough. Small open dungeons are just a waste of time.
Yeah... unfortunately, the votes came back overwhelmingly in favor of more instancing in FFXIV... /facepalm
So much for XIV having the same great community that XI had due to players being in regular contact with one another. Now they'll all be conveniently tucked away in their own personal version of Eorzea, where they dont' have to talk to or interact with anyone unless they want to. Yet another game that will demonstrate how when players never have to interact or cooperate with each other, they won't.
SE learned all the wrong lessons from XI. That's for sure.
That said.. Lineage 2 is, by and large, completely open world. There are a small handful of instanced dungeons, but they're more "side content" than anything. The major locations are all open and shared... and there's seldom issues with people - even multiple parties - finding a place to hunt in them, since they were designed large enough to begin with.
Massive dungeons that don't require instancing.. Imagine that!

However, I think there was talk about adding some kind of instance thing, but I'm not sure if it ever panned out. If it did, then it's a very small part of the game.

I am all for instancing 2 dungeons out of 3.
Gonna check it out. ;p
I'm not sure I understand.
Do you mean non-instanced content?
Or simply dungeons where everyone can see each other?
RF Online doesn't have instanced dungeons or bosses, all open world ffa.
it is a heavy cash shop game though, ruined ever since it went free to play. (weapon upgraders ect)

By "non-instanced dungeon" by the way, I mean a place where players prefer to group rather than solo that is not instanced.

EVE doesn't have instanced dungeons. and before you go that EVE doesn't have dungeons, that's exactly how devs are calling them
