It is never a wise move to switch game engines during development. However, I would probably guess that switching to the more updated version wouldn't set them back more than a couple of months.

As I understand from the article, no work or time is lost, they just have room to improve more if they choose to do so which seems to be the case.
It's bad to switch engines during development when its a completely different engine.. such as crytech 2 to Unreal 3 for example... and many games have been ruined because of that. But this is not a completely different engine..

My thought exactly, it should be almost the exact same engine besides added features and improvements.
DNF went from the Quake engine to Unreal and then their own. I can tell you one thing though, the engine wasn't even half the reason for the delays of DNF.
At the people that think the game will be delayed due to the engine change: don't worry It is relatively easy to port the Cryengine 2 to the Cryengine 3, the difference in engines is actually not that big besides optimalisation of the engine (which is the probabely the main reason they decided to do this. The early build of Archeage ran quite bad on middle PC rigs).
As long as this change was chosen by the devs I do think that it was for the best. Why would they sabotage their own game? More physics and better lighting are just some of the benefits of the newer engine and I think it will be worth a couple of weeks if it comes down to that (which it probably won't). I am not that much of a 'eye-candy gamer' but I must say that ragdolls and destructible environment seems incredibly cool to me (although it will be limited). Just my opinion.

Thats cool. The new sandbox features of Crytec 3 would be pretty useful for a MMORPG.
AA was the first MMO to be developed using CryEngine2, or any CryEngine type.
CABAL2 I think was the first MMO to be developed using CryE3.
