I seriously must be one of the few people on earth that find WoW artistically gorgeous. The art direction was the only thing that kept me going at times (sorta like that crappy Seiken Densetsu game that came out a while back). I honestly like EQ II a bit better than WoW, but EQ's graphics are bland and unimaginative. It doesn't matter how many polys you're pushing if the designs are innately soulless.

As for a point by point analysis of the two, I don't feel qualified to compare. I played WoW for 42 levels and EQII for 15 until I begrudgingly went back to WoW due to my fiance's complaining. I will say that EQ has a much more friendly and helpful community, though.

I just feel that Warcraft was great as a strategy game, but not as an MMORPG ::::23::

I must say i'll probly be baised having played WoW alot and Eq2 a little.

The point i'd like to raise is that while EQ2 uses more polys than WoW it doesn't look better.
I personally like that WoW has been designed for a range of systems, as i currently have a crappy graphics card but it takes it quite comfortably.
I've also played WoW on a high end system (were talking latest graphics card available) and it look stunning.

    Polys != good looking game

Well been playing WoW for about 3 weeks now and EQ2 for 3 days!

Quite simply WoW has been a joy to get into. Straight away I found the game easy to understand, EQ2 has proved to be more difficult. Whereas with WoW I am kept on hour after hour, with EQ2 I tend to logout rather quickly. A lot of people have said they prefer the more 'mature' graphics on EQ2 to WoW 'cartoony' graphics. To be honest I was blown away by WoW scenery, the fighting sequences may not be the best but the landscapes are varied, colourful and vast. I found it quite stunning. In my opinion EQ2 is not as appealing to the eye. EQ2 also boasts that a lot of the NPCs are voice acted. Well the acting leaves a lot to be desired, I was cringing at times with the poor delivery of the lines, I'd rather the quests were left to be read (as in WoW) so that your imagination can do the work.

However... although it seems that WoW wins the vote on this post I can understand how WoW may start to get repetetive at lvls 50 + I am currently lvl 29 and loving every minute. I also am playing alliance so have horde to look forward to.

So many people cannot be wrong, hence why I bought EQ2 after downloading trial of the isle (free demo - available on home site) and I feel EQ2 may be a slow burner. After all it took me a good 2 months to get into Baldurs Gate back in 1998!!!! I fear that I may put a further reply post on here in a few months, lambasting WoW and singing EQ2's praises.

At the moment though - WoW (by it's sheer user friendliness, jawdropping scenery) wins by a country mile!

Well i own both games EQ2 from nov 2004 and WoW from feb 2005 euro launch.

Have level 60 shaman in WoW and 50 guardian  in EQ2.

EQ2 of course has the nicer graphics which is also a strong weak point.A recent survey(was done only in UK but guess similar figures for many countries too) showed that 25% have a mx card which does not play EQ2 at all and 12% have the fx5200 which is almost useless for EQ2.

I seen a lot of post talk about the detail of EQ2 graphics and let me say even using a R9800pro and a X850XT PCI-E i seen a hell of a lot of deifference .There is detail in EQ2 down to smallest things-mouth moving, sweat, wrinkles etc.

It can be argued that do you need one of the strongest cards in market to really appriecate the graphics .Well if you read my post i said it is a weak point for EQ2 commerically .But that does not stop it meaning it does not have breathtaking graphics.

EQ2 is also hard to get into and more time consuming.

But here is a big plus EQ2 updates so often i never end up doing half of what new content/quests they bring in before BAM another update is there.

In short as a old timer gamer from as far back as UO in 1997 I can honestly say this game has the most frequent update in content and quests i ever seen !

So basically logging into EQ2 is never boring at all despite been level 50(max) since sometime in feb.

Now WoW is simple to run and means i can use my oldest machine to play with no hassle at all.

It is also more solo friendly even though EQ2 is solo friendly now ,WoW is still way ahead.

WoW is easy to get into with no hassles at all and requires less downtime.

But WoW servers are still unstable despite me transferring my character to a low load server which makes me doubt that server load is the issue as many have said it was.

WoW is also probably one of the slowest i ever seen for updating content .I have done it all  simply because there are like 5 or 6 only high instances(dungeons) yes folks even MC.

So I have turned to pure pvp (EQ2 has no pvp at all so far even-promised in new expansion). And after 4 weeks i have more or less quit pvp .It is repeatative but thats not why i quit pvping.

The reason was after 2 weeks a bug has hit me and very many others in which we were not getting registered our kills and thus could not gain ranking. In short some of us actually even lost ranking. It took numerous mails to CSR to even get them to reassure us we will get our points back and we are still not certain we will or when!

I keep playing both games but if you read my post  2 months ago i said EQ2 and WoW was about equally good .

As of now considering the bugs, server instability, lack of things to do at level 60 in WoW and painfully slow update of content I have to say EQ2 is a better game(ok i got my flame suit on image)

Of course this is only my opinon .However,i plan to keep both games and see how it goes.

There speaks someone who has only seen screen shots of the game and no ingame movement and action. Although now he'll claim to have played it for years yada yada yada.Boring.

EQ2= Big heavy book on quantum physics.

WoW =  Your Favourite comedy film.

One heavy and serious and brown BROWN eveywhere and looks like swg , oh it  is same engine so landscapes are the same. You will always find it hard to find your way around sicne everywheres the bland brown same with  bland brown and grey people in brown grey armour *yawn*

WoW is colourful and fun and light and easy. Quests CAN be long drawn out over many many levels some involving guilds  and some solo. More fun story lines to them and defenitely far more fun to play. Every  stood a gnome in the snowey tree lined hills and watched as his breathed fogged around him? And thats old? dont see eq2 doing it. Death penaltys are another thing. Why the fuck would anyone WANT to be punished for some other tards actions or have exp taken away from dieing??

Hey you died and you didnt learn anytthing from it. Yeah . No the new right way is the way  Blizz handled itt. Take coin from the pocket. Why should people work hard for exp and items then have to lose them etc because they made a mistake in a GAME!?

SOE have zip sense of humour , Blizzard have a great sense of humour. If you guys want to pay to play a serious brown sim then fine but id rather not do that boring shit since we do it day in day out IRL.

EQ2= and old man wearing a brown pullover and brown shoes driving a grey and brown rangerover.

WoW = a young man wearing a hawian shirt and sunglasses driving a 4x4 jeep.

in the end its personal choice but im sick of people who havent been near either game , critising them. I played both and that was my opinion.

EQ2 is a good game but WoW have a lot more future, it doesn´t have a lot of hightlvl content cause it have just started but after battlegrounds they will add black wing lair(instance) and over time i will be great
i recomend WoW and those ho sya gets boring after 3 months are such idiotz, they say that because they don´t know how to apreciate PvP

Well to me and think many is that pvp must have an incentive not just killing for sake of killing.

It took months for them to bring in the honor system ,which i felt was because they took their time to discuss it and test it.

In reality it provokes mass ganking(i pity those not level 60 yet and have to level up).

for those that pvp ,it is bugged for many with not only failing to update the contribution points  but at times calculating it weirdly.

For proof go to the offical forums(i use EU ones) and click pvp forum and the first  page is littered with people having trouble  so you don't even have to look far at all.

There is even a funny thread of a guy who was away for over a week(thus should not get a ranking next week) who got promoted a rank and another of someone who did not pvp at all having a ranking up.

On my server/guild a rogue  who gained nearly twice the amount of kills of the nearest person(my guild has over 60 people) actually got demoted .

So yes in view of the current state of the honor system ,me and many like me(again check forum to see just how many) are "idiots" who do not appriecate the current pvp WoW has to offer.

    Hopefully they fix this.

Buffbots aside, DAoC's PvP system is so much better than WoW's that it's not even funny (and I don't even really like DAoC). It's interesting how WoW prides itself on being casual friendly, and yet your rewards are rank based rather than accumulative.

Obviously from the topic you know what i'm about to ask,
Should we get EQ2 or WoW

I know WoW Is kind of PvP based once you reach lvl 60
And EQ2 Doesn't even have PvP *Yet*
    But Eq2 has amazing graphics.
    And WoW... Doesn't.
*sigh* I dont know, its a tough decision because no matter which one we get we'll have fun for a while.

Depends on what you are looking for really. You almost answered the question yourself I think..

    Graphics vs gameplay

    Asthetics vs fun

    You be the judge....

I played both and found WoW superior in PVE and PVP combat. EQ2 had better customization, but it was less noticeable than in WoW (hard to explain...)
EQ2 has a free trial called Trial of the Isle. I would suggest that. As for WoW, find someone with a key.
Good luck with your decision ::::28::
PS: If you pick WoW, play horde on Bleeding Hollow. My name is Niku ::::02::

Interesting, the "great looooooooooooooooooooooooong quests" were the thing that got on my nerves about eq2 - questlog is almost instantly full from the get go... Overquest is what I dubbed it..

I guess if you want a time sync go eq2

if you want something that appeals more towards your shorter attention span then WoW is great - you can also sit down for 30mins to 1hr and still get some things accomplished.

I've played both of these games (don't play either now) WoW to me was the obvious choice since eq2 was a tremendous let down ($50 gone), I think they concentrated too much on graphics - not enough on fun factor

Hmm I'm late to the discussion but I will speak as someone who has played both games, WOW to level 50 and EQ2 to level 20 so far.

    1) Levelling: WOW is faster. If you're in it for instant gratification and want to hit level 60 in a week, go with WOW you can probably make it :) EQ2 is a slower pace game.

    2) Quests: WOW's quests are pretty easy, very quick and reap tons of xp. EQ2's quests flow like a storyline. They are a bit harder and don't hand-hold quite as much.

    3) Graphics: If you have a low end graphics card the graphics are fairly comparable. But if you have a top of the line video card EQ2's graphics really start to shine. Mouths that move, wrinkles that move, intense character and flora detail as well as scenery and clothing that moves in the wind, etc. I'm running a 6800 GT with 256mb of Ram and the graphics in EQ2 are breathtaking. This is a good, and a bad thing, as another poster mentioned, because to truely enjoy the beautiful graphics in EQ2 you have to have a pretty beefy system. Mine's a 3.2ghz system with 2gb of RAM and a 6800GT card. My old system didn't run the game well at all and I had to tweak the settings way down. My "old" system was a P4 1.8 512mb RAM with a GeForce 5700 256mb RAM.

    4) Soloability: WOW used to win this one hands down but EQ2 has made a slew of changes and solo play is very do-able now. I'd say WoW is still a bit easier solo just because it levels faster by it's very nature. But they're both very solo-friendly now.

    5) Immersiveness: EQ2 hands down. From talking NPC's (which you can set so that they only talk the first time they initiate a storyline so the annoying factor isn't really there if you set your settings properly) to storylines that span dozens of quests and actually affect how NPC's react to you in the game.

    6) Things to do: EQ2 is by far better on the content end of the game. They add content to that game so fast it's dizzying. WOW took 3 months for 1 update. EQ2 has already come out with dozens of content patches and is now working on their 2nd major content update release. This all in the time that WOW has done one update to add PVP.

    7) PVP: WOW has it, EQ2 doesn't *yet*... though I suspect it's only a matter of time. The whole game is geared around the war between Qeynos and Freeport so PVP is inevitable I think :)

    8) Mounts: Now, if you're into riding things WOW has it all over EQ2... in EQ2 (unless you're a millionaire) the only way to get around are the gryffon towers or walking. In WoW there is a veritable plethora of things to ride. Though I think some of them are silly. I never understood why someone would want to ride a bug :)

Anyway... the games are pretty similar. Both are fantasy... both have pretty much the same basic races (though EQ2 has more) and both have decent graphics (though EQ's are much better if you have a strong system with a good graphics card).

If I were looking for a game to just play in my spare time: WOW would probably be my main choice.
If I were looking for a game that I was going to play as my primary entertainment: EQ2 hands down.

Personally it's a no brainer for me. I play EQ2 because with the SOE All Access Pass (I play SWG as my primary MMO) I get access to SWG, PlanetSide and both EQ1 and EQ2. Another really nice feature of the all-access-pass is all the updates for EQ2 so far have been 'included with your SOE All Access Pass' so I haven't even had to spend money on expansions. Which is very very nice!

Anyway, pick whichever one suites you. I'd highly recommend getting someone to get you a buddy code for EQ2 now that they've just come out. They give you 14 days of full access to the game (not just Trial of the Isle) so you can get a feel for the entire game, not just the content on the Isle (though the isle really does give you a good idea of how the game feels).

Anyway, good luck in your decision. Both WOW and EQ2 are excellent games, though I think that at this point EQ2 has more longevity just from the frequent content updates.

I think both games are going to disappoint the hardcore MMO player that wants to LIVE in a gameworld.  That's the only knock I can think of and for me it's not an issue at all.  I burned out on WoW in 5 months but I enjoyed it alot more than EQ.  I wouldn't be surprised if a future expansion for WoW upped the difficulty a bit since so many people think it's too easy.

I just played the trial of the isle until i hit max lvl and did some quests. I came from lineageII which is majorly lacking in conntent and its only about pvp imo. Im trying to trade my account for a wow account just so i can have some gear and start from scratch . What i realy love is PvP and i know wow has alot of it i read their forums mad people post on pvp forums its insane even more then linII, I know Eq2 is coming out with some where u can pvp and thats realy great i hope they keep adding to the PvP this is the main reason why im considering on getting eq2. Something i like is a game thats hard like when people see you having a realy cool over enchanted sword they know you tried realy hard to get it and also when your high lvl it took u alot of grinding to get there and questing. I like a high grind but no as high as lineageII but i think wow is the opposite i wish wow was a harder game because i truly want to experiance this game and play with my friend but i dont think its gonna happen =(.

    WoW vs EQ2?

This is soooo old!  Why not make a classic UO vs EQ instead?  Or maybe Mario VS Pac man?
