Don't get it unless....
Tried this game a few days ago and loved it... I could have seen myself playing it for awhile but it has one HUGE flaw... 90% of the population cheat. It has gotten to the point where players openly admit to using macro's and claim that without cheating, there is no way to compete.
Too bad...
So I guess, if you okay with cheating and possibly loosing your account, its a great game. (they only do 3 days bans... they don't ban the cheaters because they will loose too much of their playerbase)...

The macro stuff has cut-down some, in the beginning one could walk on AFK swimmers from one island to the next without getting their feet wet. At least these days the players are trying to hide such activities by using area's that are not so overt. Nevertheless, it is true, you can increase your abilities by a macro-a-day plan which makes the game...difficult for the hardcore gamer.
Before all the current players start flaming me... I dont care that most cheat in the game... it is mostly AV's fault for not enforcing their TOS.
Just don't want ppl to be dissappointed when they find out (like I was).
While it is true that many people used shortcuts by macroing especially buffs etc. that doesnt have to ruin your fun in the game....when you start out you will have to reach a certain skilllevel to be able to compete with most players there in terms of pvp but that really has no effect on you whatsoever. Especially since you can reach that level fairly fast depending on your gametime.
It's natural to be behind when you start a skillbased game and you'd have to catch up with veterans anyways even if none of them ever macroed...the game is 2 years old now and you have your work cut out for you anyhow to reach veteran level simply because people invested months and months in the game. And once you reach those skilllevels everything is fine again...you just arrive a little later than some other people might have, big deal. Besides there are ALWAYS other people around your progression you can kill if that's your style of gameplay. You gotta get away from the "gotta max everything before I can think to compete with anyone" mindset it's what makes you frustrated and quit a game. There are many levels of progression in terms of what or who you can kill.
Of course it's your decision but your point of view is pretty flawed

Nah, I'm happy to grind for months before I can kill someone (I play mainly for pvp)... I like the fact that it is hard, that is the main thing drawing me to the game but... I do not want to forever be at the bottom of the scale with people who have started after me surpassing me simply because they cheat... get it?
I have not used any macros just played the game how its suppose to be played.
Basically been playing sicne december, now i cant take on a vet in a 1v1 fight but Darkfall is not about 1v1 its about group combat and i can bring a lot to that
I think i got my archery up to a ponit where i could do tons of damage in pvp in maybe 2-3 nights with maybe 2-3 hour play sessions..
With the recent skill gain changes you will be up there in no time... where the vets spent years macroing their skills to the point they have them it might take you 6 months of normal play to get a really good cahracter. After al lthis is a MMORPG and thigns take time..
That beeing said there are alot of things you can't really gain without macroing but mostly they are not gamebreaking. And they are becoming fewer as meditation,a system similiar to eve online's offline-skilling, gets developed further.

Players are not trying to hide when macro'ing. They openly admit it afterall. But there are 2 reasons why they are less common nowadays:
1. The population has been greatly reduced since Launch.
2.. Sea monsters were added and also the Kraken.
Aside from that, AFK swimmers can be found quite easily around Villages and Player Cities near a source of water.
I use macros to switch weapond ect...
its not cheating thats why every one say they use them.............................
you cant enforce TOS if u dont detect cheating if one set the character to run on a wall and you are on front the PC doing homework or reading, how they can enforce TOS ? the same thing whit any macro, remember macro =! botBestSigEver :P

If the devs don't like that activity, then they have every right to swing the hammer.
Macro's circumvent the UI design. If they aren't built into the UI, then players shouldn't expect the devs to allow them to be used.
To the guys saying using macro's while your at your pc isn't cheating.... you know thats not my point... I'm only talking about AFK marco-ing... and don't tell me most dont do it.

Darkfall is the best pvp mmo and if you want to compete, you macro. When you hear someone say "the grind is fine" or "you can get a good char in two months", they macro. Heck, I have macroed and have a 1 day ban on my char. The reason you don`t see very much macroing or AFK swimming anymore is simply because we got the 100 quickness bonus and are done with most spells. new players macro and that`s like music to my ears. Then I know we might get some new pvpers in a six months time.
This pvp mmo have a core flaw as big as square wheels on a car, and the only way to bypass that flaw is to macro. So be quiet when parts of our tiny population tries to level up in this Korean monstrosity. Macroers should be rewarded for their willingness and determination to play this game.
I have personally macroed in every game possible and even told my groups I was macroing and have never been banned in any game. Rift, WoW, EQ, EQ2, WoW, UO, Shadowbane, Darkfall, etc etc. Darkfall has the highest chance of someone getting banned for macroing because of how their skill system works. How many people in the world have G15 keyboards? Simply making your G1 - G5 key do ANYTHING is considered macroing.
Macroing isn't cheating. Teleporting using a program, flying using a program, dupeing gold, thats cheating. The true cheats are mostly gone from Darkfall as the developers are smart enough to stop them (allthough it did take them awhile).
The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
I think he's mostly referring to AFK Swimming, AFK Casting, Blood Walls, etc.
Darkfall at one stage had a lot of potential and was considered fun, these days it just gets boring rather too quickly. I believe the majority of the community that are still playing the game are waiting on the miracle expansion.
I dont cheat and have lots of fun. Its my favorite MMORPG by far!!! So epic when you get past that 6 month mark and have a ton of practice! 45+ min fights keep you at the edge of your seat and provide a rush that no other game can match. Its worth the flaws.
