First let me apologize for using wow as reference but need to in this thread.
So many people come to rift and use the wow mindset sadly and miss out on a lot.Sure the quests are pick and kill this like WoW and sure the dungeons are instanced even though they are fun but people miss out on a lot and i don't mean just pvp .
The rifts are great too.
Exploring the zones is superfun .Picking collectables aka artifacts(this is from EQ2) is rewarding.Trying to do the puzzles and going to the hard to reach areas for ancient cairns is great and rewards with epics at times.
How often have i seen level 50 ask what ancient cairns and puzzles are!
There a lot to do in rift zones so much so i actually green the whole zone and at times grey it out and feel i am not done yet.

You have some good points there. I enjoy the graphics alot. The exploration is pretty cool as well. I dont find myself drawn to it though, all the time. You know what I mean?
Levelling in Rift is not a grind
Levelling in Rift is great fun. Time passes without me noticing! I can truly say that I've not had a game grab me like this one has.
.
Sure leveling is fun until you wake up and realise you are wasting your precious life away by bashing pixels on a screen. But then isn't that just all computer games nowadays?

er...Unless you're one of those doctors doing surgery via a remote controlled arm or a South Korean professional gamer that makes it big and gets paid $100k a year, when have video games ever been anything more than a time sink?
Leveling in Rift is fun. Not the quests...you can do 99% of them without reading anything more than the quest goals, but the rest of the game play. Especially experimenting with your builds and hitting rifts and invasions. They've managed to hit something right. Now if they would add some character back story for your avatar...maybe allowing you to explore why your character died, snippets of memory from your previous life, why you would want to be a Defiant or a Guardian, etc.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Yeah, the questing could be more involving. With the Quest Tracker and the Map button, you really don't need to read the text.
lol was about to say exactly same.watching tv ,playing any form of games ,etc is all a time sink.but we do it anyway because humans need recreation!
Rift is nothing more then another mediocre WoW Clone. It was interesting for the first 2 weeks but then it turned out to be the same old western MMO with flaws that will take months to get fixed. Leveling in it was nothing more special then any other MMO that's out already.
OP is very easily pleased. Game is like WoW but not as good on every level except graphics.
The only games I ever find to be "fun" when leveling, are games with outstanding and well presented storylines. Rift does not meet this requirement, in fact, the lore and storyline behind Rift is painfully weak. Most of the time I find myself going through the motions of leveling w/out any vested interest in what the quests I'm doing entail, or why I'm in the particular zone I'm in.
Not that Rift is bad, its just very average for a leveling experience.
I enjoyed leveling in LOTRO and AoC...and have extremely high hopes for SwTOR. But I had no vested interest in the process of leveling in Rift, outside of becoming more powerful.
Bitter WoW fanboi tears tastes the best.Go back to WoW and stay off the Rift forums then maybe? Obviously you do not like the game so why come here trolling and crying? WoW must not be that great that your spending your time on a Rift forum and not on the great WoW forums.
To op yup I am enjoying it alot and plan to be playing it for along time.
And don't forget that the inevitable Nerf-Fest has already begun. Although I wouldn't quite go so far as to call it a "WoW-clone". It was more like EQ2/Warhammer/DAoC clone with elements of WoW's UI, achievements, and some other minor details. Ok, that being said, if you call Rift a WoW-clone, then you also have to call WoW an EQ1 clone, and then EQ1 itself a UO clone. There's a lot of old-school players such as myself that look at WoW like a dumbed down/watered down Neverquest (until SOE came along and train wrecked it).
And FWIW, I'm not going back to WoW, Catafail just sucks too much
Edited for spelling/grammer/phat fingering.
