Amnesia:The Dark Descent

Picked Amnesia up during one the steam sales at the end of last year and it is indeed a fantastic horror game.

F.E.A.R. single player game...not the second one...the first one. If you play that in the dark with headphones on, with the volume up...I promise you'll jump. I am going to be getting Amensia soon.

It's hard to find games that have a good fear factor in it anymore. In the beginning of Vampire: The Masquearde there's a haunted mansion that you have to explore..which for it's day..was eerie.

Good luck..please post any good ones you find. Thanks.

Playing: BF4/BF:Hardline, Subnautica 7 days to die
    Hiatus: EvE
    Waiting on: World of Darkness(sigh)
Interested in: better games in general

Yeah Amnesia is a good game. If you like that style of gameplay you should check out the Penumbra games. Its made by the same developers and is the same style of gameplay. Their quite scary although the graphics are a bit dated.

A horror/thriller MMORPG would be interesting.

Edit: And the poster above me dares to call himself Heldhaftig!?

Jump out scary is no where near as scary as the type Amnesia scary has.

I know Doom 3 and FEAR also...

Definently a scary game, my only complaint is the game is to short.

True but it cost like $15 and it has a level creator, iff you search around you can find some fun user created content.

I played the demo of this game, but the constant screen effects really bored me and killed my immersion of it (the constant whiting out, blurring out, screen shaking, and so forth).

Is the actual game better in terms of this? Because iirc, in the demo, I couldn't go one hallway without some screen effect triggering.

Not bashing, but a real question.

Yeah it doesn't happen near as much in the real game. The only time it consistently happens is if you don't use light and stay in the dark, then you'll go insane and your screen will freak out.

Amnesia is a fantastic game.  Scared the hell out of me at times.  Great use of darkness and sound.

Each to their own. personally i thought it was mind numbing and yawn inducing.

The only people who actually seem to like the game are those that followed that totalbiscuit around like a lapdog.

And before i get called a troll.  check out the 'review' he did.  it was laughable at best.

I don't have the nerve to play games of this type anymore. I haven't even beaten the first Dead Space yet, lol. As far as Amnesia, I couldn't even get through the demo; it was just too nerve-wracking for me. Looks like an extremely well done horror game though, something we need more of IMO.

lol yea I know what you mean, I think Doom 3 was quite scary, especially those flie babies hopping about and the creepy sound they made, haven't got the nerve to play Deadspace yet, guess I'm just susceptible to the jump-in-your-face type of horror image

To each their own, indeed—horror is quite subjective—but I would ask if there is a horror game you do find effective.

Not sure why you'd imply that a minority of the people who played it have this opinion, though. I had to Google this Totalbiscuit.

Amnesia is the best horror game I've ever played. It scared me, and I loved every moment. Not much replayability to it, beat it once and you'll get through the puzzles and everything easy the second time.. I loved it though.

I love F.E.A.R. actually one of the few games that gave me goosebumps. But also enjoyed Amensia, Think DeadSpace also was pretty cool.

Hoping that F.3.A.R will be great aswell......

This bothered me at first as well, but after playing the real game for quite a bit, it begins to happen much less frequently. I also minded it a lot less when I understood why it was happening and not thinking it was just a random effect intended to scare me, but made no sense.

That note you read at the beginning, written to yourself, says that a shadow is chasing you. Whenever the castle shakes, whenever your vision is obscured in red, or whenever parts of the castle become consumed by the organic red substance, that's the shadow. As to what it actually is, that's all guesswork. I like the theory that it is the universe trying to correct an imbalance. That would be explained in the game, as to what imbalance I am referring to :P

Regarding Amnesia as a game, I thought it made amazing use of atmosphere. If anything, it was a bit too easy for my taste. Amazing game though.

I also loved interaction with objects such as drawers, doors, levers, and the levers you had to turn. It made the game a bit difficult for some people when you had to use those objects in a situation where you're being chased. For some reason I was exceptionally good at slamming doors shut behind me without stopping my run.

.. But in a good way.

Not sure why you felt it necessary to be an asshat in your respone.  But, as you said, to each his own.  I suppose you needed some way of validating your own opinion by insulting someone else's.

I'm certain you now have meaning in life.  Grats on that.
