Hey there
just downloaded vanguard trial over night and had a quick look at it this morning
first impressions are, the look and feel is exactly what im looking for!
looks great, feel great, cant wait to get home later and give it a good go!
1 question though i hope someone can help
there was only 2 servers and they were both low population.. is this cause its trial or is this the whole community?
and another question
have you or do you play it, and is it good?
ok that was 3 questions in total :P

I hear its a good game but it had a rough launch and the population is pretty low.. Someone told me around 50 people on during peak hours is like normal lol.. Then again its a SOE product so that dosn't surprise me.
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
I bought the collectors edition on pre order with a load of m8's
we never even lasted the 1st free month
The graphics at the time were stunning (probably still are even now)
but the lag spikes & piss poor optimisation of the game & generally just
full of bugs made it a very poor launch even for SOE's standards.
A games first few months are important to its survival, if it launches bad
it generally doesnt get much better, especially with SOE at the helm of any game
The Deathstar destroyed planets...Lucas Arts destroyed Galaxies

Played:
SWG | EVE | WOW | VG | LOTRO | WAR | FML | STO | APB | AOC | MORTAL | WOT | BP | SW:TOR
One EU One NA server. Guess the merger to the two got canned.
Great MMO but a lot of the big guilds left for Rift.
That's the whole community. Halgar is European and Telon is American. If you like a more hardcore, group centric game, then you'll like Vanguard. Be aware that grouping can be difficult unless it's peak time.
If you have a mid to high level system, it will run smoothly. I just recently went back to the game last week to see if it had become more solo friendly like some people have claimed. It isn't, unless you like dying a ton or kiting your kills. The technical bugs are pretty much squashed, not a single crash like I used to get and it was pretty darn smooth on my HD 5870. I love the look of the game and I really love the classes / skill sets, but it's just not casual enough for my taste, even after all the supposed changes.
On a side note, SOE will never do a damn thing for this game, no matter how many people come back. It would be in direct competition with EQ2 and the upcoming EQ Next. It will remain on life support till EQ Next releases, then you can pretty much bet it will go offline.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
At this point in time, I suggest getting an out of game guild THEN bringing them into Vanguard en masse. Ofc SOE might not even give a !@#$ and not update it -.- Its games like these that are great but have a population problem that needs one large guild to boost it up and hopefully get the community going.

Great game and if you can get over the moderately low population (I don't find it as bad as some people seem to claim), you'll love it.
Really good game that is difficult to solo and has a very low population.
If you can level to where most of the players are you will find a great game. There is better than average chance the low pop will kill it for you.
Try and stay posititve and find a guild as soon as you can. The game has a ton to offer and is one of the best around.

i seen the low population
and that "parlo" feature is ludicris!!!
i can uderstand if someone wanted to do all that card crap as a mini game, but to talk to people at all? ridiculous!
i played for 30mins and didnt get to kill anything..
they gotta make some simple changes to this game and it could be successful.
first thing would be a f2p option or unlimited trial
no population means poulation wont grow unless they do something

You don't have to do the mini card game. Sounds like you came across a quest and then assumed that you absolutely had to do the quest to continue. Take off your seatbelt.
SOE has all but abandoned all their old MMOs. Although VG is the most obvious, EQ and EQ2 also have tiny teams and are in autopilot mode. SOE's focus is on new projects like DCUO, EQN, PSN... now lets hope the whole DCUO launch vs Rift launch finally teaches them why you don't launch early anymore.
It's funny how so many people talk about game population, and in reality only play with a handful of players anyway. Play what's fun, ignore the sheep that simply follow the 'population' from game to game.
DCUO never really did all that well on the PC anyway, although i've heard (so it may not be wholly accurate) that the game is doing reasonably well on the PS3.. but.. given that its yet another SOE game, and a 'console port' i didnt really give any thought to even giving it a trial, let alone buying it - EQN is also not a consideration... Vanguard imo, was the only game currently on their books that was worth a second look.. but.. its so badly neglected.. i just don't see it becoming viable.. there are too many games out now that don't have all that baggage.. and arent SOE games.. its a shame.. it really is.. but i think that Vanguards time has long since passed.. chalk another game up to the SOE 'we killed that game' scorecard
not at all. Some people actually enjoy large player run events! Quite a few times i turned the stv arena into a tonk deathmatch and it was very very fun. Im pretty sure we had roughly 80people on each of those events! I was going to make an underwater tonk war but alas i haf quitted wow before that could happpen. Ofc we had the no mines rule which people followed
Hmm... I havent really created events as large as that in other mmorpgs becausr of group limitations and stuff but the closest wasmessing around with the bff report guy whilr he played apb. Nothing like bringig trucks and cars to stop their enemy from delivering those cars!
ah yes... Engineering is still the best tradeskill EVER! nothing like tonk wars @_@

I stopped SOE MMO's when they brought in that whole card crap for 2 year olds to milk more money. Though I may give Planetside Next a go. Though something tells me this is just going o be a graphic revamp to the original Planetside and then have it work on Playstation 3 hence the Planetside Next title, i really hope not though.
with all due respect a good population means you can get a dungeon or a raid together
so if you like questing solo - population means nothing but advice
if u want dungeon or raid - you need population
WOWs random dungeon finder goes even further and extend population across servers.. brilliant

I tried the game when this people from this site created a guild called After hours. That was a little less than a year ago, and it was kinda fun. The problem wasn't finding a group. I sometimes also quested with people outside of the guild, and once when I reached about lvl 20 we had a guild run to some dungeon. The dungeon itself was boring, because it felt like we were just pulling group after group, the only tactic being making sure you don't walk into patrols.
I played as a rogue and I hit about lvl 23 before I quit. The most annoying thing was that the enemy status health bars were not synchronized with their actual health, so sometimes an enemy could be dead while it said half health bar full (possibly because I played on US server from EU). Very annoying when questing. At lvl 23 I got a starcraft 2 beta invite and I stopped playing. I don't know what happened to the guild, but I guess people started dropping out one after one. I doubt a good population is going to fix this game.
yea it is a good game with a low pop. It used to be impossible to play without a super computer or sshd, now its playable on a mid range computer although expect lags in groups. You can play sols although it takes longer to kill a mob, the crafting and diplomacy are excellent, you will not find Diplomacy in any other mmo and it is a nice diversion from kill, kill, kill. Its a game I go back to time and time again, at the moment playing Aion and ehh its ok the levelilng is a bit faster but not as good as Vanguard.
