Just a heads up for people really, but it looks like Conan, at least in the EU may have some security issues on their hands. I saw several posts on their forums about accounts being hacked etc, with the usual people saying they have not been on any dodgy sites or anything like that.
Normally I pay little attention, however the reason I was there this time was because my own account was hacked. Someone made a failed attempt to pay for the account at 5am UK time. I logged on and checked, and there it was. I have never actually paid for gametime in Conan. I played on release day, and only played the 30 free days that came with the box. I've never touched the game since then.
My account info for Conan is different from all my other accounts as per usual, so even if I did visit every dodgy site on the net and downloaded every keylogger and trojan available on the net, in terms of my age of conan account it would all be in vain, considering I haven't typed the Username or Password at all, its impossible that its come from anywhere other than a security flaw, or an extremely dedicated and hardcore bruteforce cracker.
As much as I dislike the game and think its crap etc, I know there are people that DO enjoy it. So those people should be extra vigilant etc. Personally, if someone wants to hack my account and pay the sub to rob a character that I doubt has anything of any value at all, and probably isn't even above 20, thats all well and good. My only concern is that the hacker would have been able to see my personal info (name/address/etc).
My only other concern is why they didn't bother to change my pass etc. Seems weird.

Just an update:
Got a reply to the ticket I sent them. They removed the payment that had been registered, deactivated the subscription, and sent me a password reset email. All perfectly viable things to do, however probably hard to do seeing as I had already removed the payment, the subscription was failed and not active, and I had changed the password myself.
They did not seem to take on board, the fact that my username/password could not have been keylogged or phished. Unless the guy did it in June 2008 and waited nearly 3 years to cash in... by subscribing a dead account...
I mean, lets be honest. An Age of Conan account is hardly a high value target for anyone, I get e-mails every day trying to scam rift/aion/wow accounts hell, I even got one for lineage 2 a week ago. Never had one for AoC. If someone truly had keylogged me then there would be millions of things to steal, hack, and enjoy. Hell if I stole someones personal data, I sure as hell wouldn't make AoC my first stop...
Seems they would rather ignore what I told them an assume its my fault. Guess ill contact the ICO in the UK and advise there is a potential breach of the Data Protection Act.

you must avoid sharing of accounts also..
After reading about a bunch of these hackers about 3 weeks back, and the fears that fun com was doing something shady. I decided to be proactive. I removed the payment method even though the credit card on that account had already been canceled. I then changed the password to the max length the would let me, followed by me sending them an email asking them to ban the account as I as not coming back. The account has not yet been banned, but I sure am not re subbing just to delete my toons.
I never had a phishing email for my old aoc account, I find it interesting that a lot of these hacked accounts are old inactive ones. Over in eq2 a lot of the gold farmers are targeting old inactive accounts and using them to farm rares and sell plat.
You got to wonder how they are finding these old accounts and hacking them.
The tone of this thread is that Funcom is somehow screwing you or doing something wrong. My WOW account was hacked twice, EQ2 once, Lineage 2 once, LOTRO once. I understand how to protect my account and know what phishing is. All of them suggested it was my fault accept EQ2 they admitted the hack was through their site. So Funcom is just doing what all developers do with hacked account. They are no different then any other game developer. Thanks for warning us all about the shady Funcom. Be warned stay away from AOC.
Rubbish AOC is a great game and deserves a second look. Most mmos get hacked some are the fault of the user but many are the fault of the developer but do not expect them to admit it. That is the norm in the industry. No need to warn us.
Im not sure if this is aimed at me, or is a general warning. The thing is, I hate Age of Conan as a game, aside from the 30 days with the box, I never played, nor touched the game again. Its been dormant for nearly 3 years. The account ID and Password were unique to the account, and tbh, if I really was going to "share" the account I would have just given it away, meaning there would be no need for this post.
Hell, the guy that broke funcoms security etc clearly wants a free account for whatever reason, and he'd be more than welcome to mine. My only issue with the whole thing was that he would have had access to my name/address/e-mail address/phone number etc.

My account was hacked Sat night (03/26/11) I recieved an email from funcom stating my email had been changed on my account from what is is supposed to be to xumingyan8899@yahoo.. I contacted Funcom asap via their live support window on funcoms site.. The person I spoke with froze my account and told me they fowarded my "ticket" to a Gm,it turned out that who ever hacked my account deleted my toons ( 2 tier 2 80's) I was crushed about my toons, been playing since launch and had a lot of good gear, I was not worried about my CC info as funcom only shows the last four digits in your information page.
On sunday a Gm "Gyhx" restored my account and my toons.. My gear was all screwed up.. Pieces missing , bank was the same way, had a few Shards gone.. I was very upset and was going to rage quit but thought I would contact Gyhx. He ws able to restore my gear and replace most of my items ( Shards still gone though ) but over all this hacking at most was an inconvence.
Even though their is alot I do not like about Funcom, I am very happy with Funcoms quick response and getting the problem sorted out
I was away from the game for about 8 months. Came back to find my main alts gear and all of the gold were gone. After filing a request to determine when my account was 'hacked', Funcom provided a no-help canned answer follow by have a nice day. In fact, the bit of information that they did provide was my last login date - which matched the time that I left the game.
My login password is bomb-proof. Random numbers and letters and no-one has access to my computer. I personally think this is an inside thing with folks that work for Funcom and/or have access to their data. Disappointed to say the least. They have our data, the least they can do is provide a gear and gold refit. Bad business plan if you ask me. I will not be trusting these guys again.
After nearly a years break I came back, resubbed and found out I couldn't login. My game pw has always been different from the forum/account login. After I reset I came in only to find out all my gear and gold was gone.
Petitioned, live chat etc, took until the next day after 2 petitoins, several life chats and emails with support to get some gear restored.
Obviously I can't remember exactly what I had but I know this: I did NOT have greens, all my gear was full plate L80 blues and I had some epics. What they restored was mostly junk and nothing was gemmed (I had it all gemmed as I am a gemcutter).
They could not restore my gold as I had to answer a question from an email I received the night before. I had none so I asked to resend it. Few hours later I replied, answering the questions and even after repeatedly asking for updates, no response.
My char has no weapons, no shield, half his gear missing. I can't even grind this way if I wanted to. Im a weapon smith but I cant gather as the mobs that spwan will eat me and I cant even defend myself.
Needless to say I am very dissapointed. Getting hacked is one thing but not helping your subscribing members to the best of your abilities is just wrong. They do not deserve our money.
I think somthing is very unsafe with funcom, i just got a email this morning saying the charges on my account didnt go threw.
I havnt played conan since Sept of last year. So i said ok i will check i out went to their site and logged into my acount my PW was the same and everything. and there it was failed attempt to charge me for my acount.
now i have NEVER been hacked and i have played MMOs for 12 years. I have never shared my Passwords with another person or have i ever done anything stupid like getting 3rd party programs and i think this is why i have never been hacked.
I think its funcom trying to charge me not sombody trying to activate my acount.
Lucky for me every time i canceled my acount with funcom in the past i have also canceled my card i used for it so they could never charge me for no reason.
I was just hacked Sunday. I logged in Monday to find all my toons nude and broke. They also looted my guild bank. Strangely, they left my personal banks alone. I have never run any 3rd party software (not even a custom UI) or given my pwd to anyone.
Looking around on the official forums, I found lots of threads of players being hacked starting a few months back. It is my guess that funcom was hacked and usernames and passwords retrieved. If you are still playing, I would change your password immediately and maybe even every month or so.
I contacted funcom and they said I will get 100% of my stuff back but it will take up to 3 business days. The best way to get a hold of them is through their live chat help. In-game petition went unanswered for an hour so I gave up.
Hopefully they do as they've said.
Just curious, did any of you have the same login and password on a sony site?

Funcom returned everything today. They responded very quickly, although it did take some time for them to return the items.
As for the sony question, it is possible. I haven't played a sony game since Planetside and don't recall my information so I can't say for certain. Interesting theory, though.
I have been a funCom customer (on & off) since AO was released in 2001. I have never been hacked, nor had any friends that have been hacked either. Nor have I heard any stories about this in real-life either.
This is actually first time I hear about this. I do find it disturbing, especially since I was just about to upgrade my old Age of Conan account as well as spend 'some' money in their item shop to show FC my gratitude due to excellent customer service in a case that is going on just as we speak.
This might postpone my plans until Age of Conan goes free and the PvP server is open.
Too bad, cause I was really excited for a comeback. I had decided to give Age of Conan a real try, as it is so different from most of the themepark MMO's outthere.

This entire thread is fishy. The OP has deleted his MMORPG account even.
Currently Watching: TSW. << Very Eager for a Beta invite. Have experience with Beta Testing.
Not personally a big fan of raiding or current pve endgame mmo philosophy. Nothing wrong with it, I just sort of burnt out on it.
Hardcore raider in wow from Launch to.. about 7 months ago.
Currently Playing: Champions Online.
That was my first impression too... But it had an impact unfortunately. Well, I think I should give FunCom the benefit of doubt; they have afterall been treating me superbly last week. I will make an own thread bout this, as they definately deserve credits for the good work they do.
I am just very fed up with all the bullcrap FunCom takes all the time. I have acted a jackass a few occasions ingame, 10 years ago (a but immature actions), but I cannot complain on anything FunCom have done towards me. Ever helpful, and quickest help when I have been stuck with some problems.
Meh, FunCom does not deserve all this.
