EVE is easily 100x more polished and complete than Darkfall. It has been around for far longer. CCP is definitely the better company out of the two as well, IMO. CCP is a company that really cares about the future of their game, wether it's completely overhauling the graphics, or adding a major new feature such as walking in stations.
Darkfall would probably be the easiest game to understand though; it's traditional fantasy, and yeah it's got some harsh PvP. However, if you FORGET the preconceived notions about how an MMO is, and REALLY give EVE a try (ie; trying to really understand the game mechanics, and being SOCIAL.. get into a corp, etc..) then EVE will give you an experience like no other MMO on the market.
Its MASSIVE PvP and REAL economy is unique and immersive. The conflict and 'drama' puts anything from any other game to shame. The player created content is what drives this game, and I never thought corporate espionage and betrayal could be so interesting.
Also, EVE is the ONLY MMO to have consistently gained subscribers since its release. It now has over 350,000 subscribers and still growing after 8 years. It has broken records for the amount of users online at one time on their single server world, with over 63,000 players online.

I have the exact same feeling about Eve be way more polished. But isnt it somewhat too late to join that game now?
And does any1 know about how populated each games are?

No, Mike, it's not too late. The way EvE's skillsystem is made, you will be able to take up a learning route and be good at one type of ships or even a specific ship of your choice already in a few months of doing nothing. Whenever you are actually online you'll be able to play the game in whichever way you like it, knowing that your skills are going up as long as your subscription is alive and you don't forget to reset the skills.
In Darkfall, you'll spend same months grinding same mobs, grinding magic schools, afk running into the corner, afk swimming into the walls and you will be told by everybody in the game that you need to macro. You will never ever be able to beat a veteran Darkfall player, unless he is eating a KFC with both hands and is playing with his elbow. Even then, you'll need around 3-4 more noobs to only be able to get him down.
EvE IS a way much more polished game, like Sheista says, moreover, it's much deeper. Do yourself a favor, and just get into EvE right now, because it only got better and better over time, while Darkfall will only cause you lots of frustration when you realize what has to be done to become anywhere as good as people who've been playing the game for years and macroing all of their skills up.
EvE is much more populated than Darkfall. You can see how many players are on the server at any given time when you log in. Usually this is between 30k and 50k in my experience.
Darkfall has never released any real information about player numbers, but it is easy to tell that there are far less people in the game than EvE.
I have the exact same feeling about Eve be way more polished. But isnt it somewhat too late to join that game now?
And does any1 know about how populated each games are?
Bambook yeah... Just found out...
At this time, Aventurine are the only ones that know Darkfall's true sub numbers. Everything else you hear is just a guess. As for EVE, last I heard it had over 340,000 subs.

Let me address the 'can't catch up rumor' that's been around for YEARS.
There is never a wrong time to play EVE. Skills in EVE are real-time, which gives the illusion that someone who has played longer than you will always be better than you.
However, the way skills work are that they give small % increases each level, and the higher the rank/level, the longer they take to train. You can get from 1-4 in an important skill in a very short time, but the time it takes to get from 4-5 might be a LOT longer. However, the increase is miniscule compared to skills in other games, so it may not be worth it for everyone to get that last level (unless required for future skills).
Now, when you come across an older player in-game, only a portion of their skills are actually coming into use. If they're flying a cruiser, then a select group of skills is being used.. same with frigs, battleships, etc... NOBODY uses all of their skills ALL the time. So when a new player begins, he can specialize in an area or type of ship early on, and catch up to a veteran who may only have a small portion of his skills in that ship.
If you're flying a ship which you have 6mil SP in, and a vet (whose total SP is 40mil) is flying a ship which he only has 8mil SP in, you still stand a VERY good chance of beating him with a superior fitting and understanding of the game mechanics. EVE is also a very group oriented game. New players will ALWAYS have roles in fleets, because smaller ships are used in all situations. A new player could start as a tackler (prevent warp and slow down target), just to get the basis of PvP understood at first, and could then move on to better things soon after.
In most games, there is XP grind. In EVE, there is just a money grind. However you can find to make money, is what you should do. People run missions, explore, mine, manufacture, research, PvP/Pirate, etc.. There are countless ways to make money, and coming up with new ways is always encouraged in the community. If you feel you have a service you could offer people, offer it for money.
Once you get into the guts of the game (PvP), you will see EVE really shine. People may say they are bored by the combat, but it's very tactical, and actually MEANS something because when you get blown up.. BOOM there goes all the things you had on you at the time, and there goes your ship. Experienced players will always have backup ships, and eventually in the game, a loss will hurt, but you can recover from it easily, especially with the help of your corporation.

I will add a bit more to what Sheista said, that in comparison to Darkfall, where the player can be a mage, archer, and a very powerful sword face to face fighter at the same time, everybody ALWAYS get advantage of all the skills they ever trained.
As Sheista says, you can meet a 5 year veteran in a cruiser that takes only 2 weeks to be able to fly and 2 month to be able to fly at a very good level. While to fly it with all the possible skills at their maximum possible level BOTH you and the vet need to spend 6 month to train the skills that benefit flying on this specific cruiser only + all the weaponry (those aren't real numbers, just throwing it for the examples sake). This means that you will be able to be on par with any other player in a specific field you pick as long as you keep learning the skills needed for it, be it combat, mining, crafting, trading, politics, planet intercation, corporation management, whatnot.

I dont know man. How can you see how many is online?
I also fear a little pop is too low. A shame cus this game feels fun.
But I already joined a guild with many players online.
I think there's no way of looking at how many players are online at any given time.
BUT, as I said on that other post, I was in the second biggest clan in the EU server and out of 180 total players or so, only about 15 were online at any given time (including prime time during weekends). From those 15, 6 o 7 were normally idling at our home city.
So, just extrapolate that to the rest of the server and, again, my opinion is that no more than 150-200 players are playing at any given time, which is less than half if you compare it to UO but with a much bigger world.
And, ok, even without comparing it to any other game... you'll realise it's low enough when you cross the main continent from side to side in a 2 hours-long trip without finding anyone else on your way.
You'll see that NPC spawns are also very rare in some areas, making it possible to do that 2 hours-long trip even if you just started to play today (something that is not possible in, say, WoW, a game that so many people hate in Darkfall because it's too easy to play).
I loved UO and would love to play Darkfall... but is it worth to grind (and I don't hate grinding) for months, just to play with another 100 active players that you won't see unless you go to where they are looking for trouble?
Darkfall is the best in PvP, but it could be the best in many other aspects if population was higher. As of now, PvP is all you will find, and you have to go and look for it.
Can that really be compared to Eve, a game that has that and a hundred of other extra features? I wish it could, but right now we are talking about completely different games.
Little surprised you dont like the graphics...I think they are very good. As far as population, its not that the game doesn't have a population...nor is it that the map is to big. Its because they put fast travel in the game. Because of that, everyone stays in their cities or just outside of it. Go to about any city, or good spawn outside of a city, there will be people on.

I prefer Darkfall over EVE because the combat is faster-paced. Sure, the learning curve is very steep because it takes a lot of player-skill to become a known PVPer but EVE also has a huge learning curve but more of logic and strategy and learning from their 1000page players-guide manual compared to DFOs FPS w/ environmental interaction (something you will never master because some days you feel on while other days you feel off).
DFOs combat is much funner imo but EVE has its epic moments in its history just like Darkfall does. The large-scale fights can turn out to be just waiting around doing nothing but wating for it to start in both games . .. lol
Also, I am a huge fan of the Elder Scroll series.
EVE is a lot more chill of a game and easier to do things like eat while you play or safely go AFK (sometimes).
Its a matter of preference. DFO has the potential for more adrenaline and will bring you to the edge of your seat more imo because the combat is faster-paced and the winner takes all just like in EVE.

hahaha you are saying DarkFall is hard to learn? whats hard? all you do is kill kill and kill.
Its harder than any other FPS game because the PVP is not that often and its an MMORPG so there is character development involved and fighting while outnumbered is a lot harder than it used to be. You also have to compete with people using gaming keyboard and combat script for a faster reaction time and more keys to press than any other FPS game in existence.
In Darkfall you may think that you are badarss king-of-the-server and then take a few month break only to come back to get wtfpwned around every corner.
Any player who is reading this and thought that he was the best at Darkfall over a year ago will probably get their ass handed to them by the average PVPer these days.
