TERA: Test Session 1 (Europe) Detailed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

TERA Europe's site has been updated with new information about the upcoming test session. On March 11th, Frogster sent out invites to both individuals and guilds for the test series beginning later this month. The schedule of events is detailed including times and the exciting news that testers will not be bound by an NDA!

  • The first test will be completely in English and without any NDA.

  • Participants are free to take screenshots and videos of the game, but we want to point out, that the game is still in development and things could be changed until the final version arrives. Additionally this version does not represent the full westernized version of TERA.

  • There will be a level cap of 17 for this test session.

Read more here.

Thanks Piasek for the tip!

Asian theme? Like what? The Asian culture is vast beyond what little constraints you're thinking up.

Why do some folks suddenly have a problem with certain games coming from the East?

Where were the complaints when we were given numerous consoles, a whoopass amount of single player games (Super Mario Bros!, Sonic, countless great RPGs, Metal Gear Solid etc etc) to some beloved MMOs (Final Fantasy comes quickly to my mind) to well many many more things.

It's a small thing. Used to spread hate :) Nothing more.

For me its because of the whole little girls with giggly voices, pandas, picachu looking characters wandering around, the usual very large man in a trench coat with a small head, the ganjin type with long hair and a nineteen foot long sword. Its all very childlike and yet not at the same time.

Every game is the same, and the whole little girl thing is disturbing. Yes I know its their culture, I respect that. But it isn't part of our culture so its much harder to accept as the norm.

Its got nothing to do with the console they sell us, or super mario etc. Thats totally unrelated. Its about the MMO's. Its accepted that they are having to change them to suit the western market, its just how things are. Its not hate, its difference. Step down from the racism podium please.

Wow alot of haters and trolls...Asian theme?!...lol fine then don't play it because 1 or 2 character's skin do not appear "perfect" to you. Anyway i don't want whining in my party when i will enjoy the best fighting system in all mmorpg so far. Personnally i find everything in this game epic, nothing less! Finally a "real" next generation mmorpg!

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

I agree with maxym189. There are so many Western Themed WoW Clones that fail one afther another because they are the ones that dont evolve and bring anything new to the genre. Every Asain mmo that releases gains millions of subs while only one Western MMO has been able to do the same. If it was not for World Of Warcraft western mmos would be a total joke.

More testing in the spring, beta's in the summer, launch late summer would be my best guess from what EME has stated so far.

Hint: it's a fantasy game. You know, where concepts and ideas created are imaginary and stuff in-game does not attempt to reflect real life. Just because someone's concepts don't jibe with yours closed-minded philosophy of the "normal" MMORPG universe doesn't mean they should have to change a damn thing about the game. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

If you're that narrow-minded about stuff like this, then maybe you should reconsider playing video games altogether.

What you said Don is just silly Eve is a genre not an art style, he doesnt like the art style (asian) he said nothing about the genre (fantasy).  There are allot of people that wil pass on this game because of the art style, me being one of them.  But I happend to love the fantasy genre. Think a bit deeper next time before you respond.

So basically what youre saying is, I have to like everything. If I dont like Asian themed games Im closed minded and narrow minded...

I didn't once say they had to change a thing about their game either. Pretty much sick of posts on this site where people don't read properly and make up a fictional post in their own mind. Neither did I say I had to buy it, Im capable of making that choice myself.

Basically Ive made a post in response to a few others views saying Im not keen on the Asian theme, which is what this site is for, exchanging opinions about new games etc. Just because my opinion doesn't "jibe" with yours, doesnt mean Im somehow in the wrong. You've obviously taken it personally, are you Asian by any chance..?

The problem lies with you. I disagree with your opinion, and you don't like it. If I don't love everything, Im wrong. Think about something you don't like, are you narrow minded because of it? Hmm...

If I'd be standing on any podium it wouldn't be about racism. It'd be about XENOPHOBIA.

How are they "totally unrelated"? It's a product that was developed in the East.

Because it's a game, that was developed in the East and because it's an MMO suddenly people have a problem with it?

Of course you didn't see what I was aiming for otherwise you wouldn't have replied with that half-hearted comment. If you "respect that" then your first paragraph was totally unnecessary ;-)

"picachu" [sic] looking character? I can only think of one mob in the starting zone that looks like that.

Little girls with giggly voices? I can only think of one playable race out of the six (seven if some don't count Popori and Elin as one).

Pandas? It's only one face that looks like a panda in the whole anthropomorphic class.

"the usual [sic] very large man in a trench coat with a small head"?

It's the body style they went for, I would've had it differently but I can live with it and I'll have to choose some other race if I want to play a male caster. The trench coat belongs only to two out of the eight playable classes and only for male humans.

"the ganjin [sic] type with long hair and a nineteen foot long sword"

Using a strictly Japanese term (and it's gaijin) on these English forums? Many might not know what you're on about. The Aman race has male and female. Only the Aman females have long hair. "The nineteen foot [sic] long sword" belongs to only one class. There's one more, the nineteen feet axe which belongs to the slayer class. And any race can be those classes.

Way to zero in on very specific combinations.

They went for a certain style which you don't like, fine.

I'm not in any other subforums demanding a certain game be made just the way I like it. Yet when it comes to Asian MMOs many see it as a free pass to do just that.

mmorpgs are evolving a 100% faster in asia than in us/eu - rift and warhammer anyone ? if you dont like asian themed mmos... then good luck waiting few years for new mmorpg (swtor and gw2 are made for how long ?)

asian mmo developers >>>> us developers when you want new kind of mmo. If you want new WoW then you can count on US/EU games.

Nope, I didn't say you had to like everything, you can stop with rephrasing, I was pretty clear. I said you were closed-minded for being unable to accept that there are different fantasy styled MMORPGs and you insist that the game should be changed to suit your taste.

Does it matter whether or not I am asian? Does it change your opinion? Are you a skinhead nazi? Closet racist by chance?

You can dislike asian developed MMOs all you want, and by all means stay away from Tera - I wouldn't want you there anyhow.

  • sloebersloeber Member UncommonPosts: 504

altough it looks a bit too asian for me (not saying like its a bad thing but i think the long swords and other oversized items must be compensading for something huh? hehe ).

On a serious note: the more i check these asian games out the more i think they will be the future of mmo's.

In a wierd way they kinda pull me to their website on weekly basis just to check out what they are doing next.

I am prolly starting to like these asian games i guess :)

Altough i am a blizzfan i cant realy wait 10years between games now can i :p hehe

I'm gonna go with AndyPreston on this. It really doesn't matter what the theme of the art design is, if a person doesn't like it, they don't like it. He's got every right to voice his opinion on it. When you're talking about visual media, how it looks is just as important as how it plays. If someone were to make the most amazing RPG system for a computer game the gaming world has ever seen, with the caveat that all of the characters are actually walking and talking turds, I wouldn't play it.

Of course, if you want to play the freedom of speech angle here, I suppose you have every right to feel the way you do about AndyPreston based on his opinion, just like I have every right to feel like you're a complete douche for your ridiculous responses to him.

What if instead you had 2 playable races....a douche, and a turd?! I would totally play that, but I have no idea how I would decide between a douche and a turd.

On a serious note the dislike of an art style doesn't make anyone racist. I for instance hate country music, and I am white. I also hate rap. People are allowed to express their like, or dislike of artistic expression if they want to. Saying that they don't want to play a game because it is from asia isn't an attack on asian people, or culture. It is simply saying that they prefer their own culture, and there is nothing wrong with having pride in your culture. In this world I have preferences, and I am not going to pretend they don't exist to make others happy. I choose to play my games based on those preferences.
