MMO like .hack's "The World"

WT_KailWT_Kail Member Posts: 7

So every once in a while I throw this post on here to see if there's an MMO around that I missed...

So, what I mean by like "The World" is:

Must be at least partially open world - town / cities (Root Towns in .hack Mac Anu ect)

Dungeon / grind based gameply - hopefully not a quest grinder (Go to field, kill mobs, enter dungeon, clear dungeon get loot)

Deep Character Customization - not looking for a game where every 3rd person I see is a clone of my character

Action Based Gameplay - prefrerably not a click'n wait traditional MMO (but I could deal if the game fits all other points)

Encouraged Team/Party Play - do not want a Solo MMO

To date the only MMO I've found that fits these criteria is Phantasy Star Universe. It's a great game, but I'm a little tired of it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I guess you *could* look at DarkFall, although it doesn't have the best character customization ever.

Just a FYI by the way, "The World" wasn't Open-World at all, everything was instanced ;)

To the op I would love to see an MMO that followed the world and did in fact play the Japan release of there mmo version of .//hack but it was no where near to what they should of done but the closest thing I can think of is DDO. It has alot of hub areas and its a group based game that follows the D&D 3.5 rule set with a mmo element to grind dungeons for lvls but once you hit max lvl there really isnt much to do but with there next update they will add a somewhat of a crafting system. So to that effect the game is alot like .//hack even though it's set in a D&D setting.

As for the poster above the elements in the world was massive multiplayer in the fact the root towns by the standerds of the anime could have 1000 to 1 million people per root town or area and the zones could have just as many it really wasent limited just the ps2 game made it feel that way cause it was a single player game.

The closest thing you are going to find is this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnSD4-3tzrY

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
