Praise for the Rift team: they are good people

melmoth1melmoth1 Member Posts: 762

I live in Japan.

Rift sent me a message expressing their sympathy and hoping my family and I were safe and doing ok what with the earthquake, tsunami and other troubles here.

They gave me a month free play time, too.

I was surprised at this act of decency and kindness.

Just wanted to let people know this.

That is actually very cool. A small thing really, but still, I like it that Trion did it.

Props to the people at Trion and my prayers go to you and your loved ones in Japan.

I agree. I imagine many people are not even able to play in Japan right now, but it is a nice gesture to allow them some free gaming time if they can. It won't change anyone's life, but it was a nice thing for Trion to do all the same.

    Cool :)

    Hope all is okay.

I have been very happy with the Trion team, they have suprised me a lot. This just shows the quality of the team, kudos!

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

That's so awesome of them. Way to go Trion!

My good wishes are with you during this awful time in Japan. I hope that things get better swiftly.

Very awesome of them as a team.

It is important for dev's to realize that we exist outside of our wallets.

Hey melmoth1, I wish you the best and hope everything gets better over there in Japan.

Reading what Trion did for you put a big ol' grin on my face :) Very nice and I'm happy for you.

This is a very cool thing that Trion have done. At least it shows there is more to the machine, there is a very human side to the folks at Trion.

I'd also like to say my throughts are with all the families and folks in Japan.

Really? Trion did this? If this is true then Trion really is officially my #1 favorite MMO developer.. I already liked them with the new content additions and stuff but this beyond cool.. I've donated my self to the releif effort so it's good to see Trion cares and is trying to do their part too.. NC Soft also donated tons of cash too.. Good to see game companies pull together and actually support their customers like that.

@&;#^!( @*#&;!(@) you guys are freakin' killin' me.  Between all the updates, the donations, everything.. I have re-subbed.  You guys suck.  I can't NOT contribute to a company that finally seems to be doing the right thing.

Mmo Developers do this quite a bit more often then some people realize. That being said, Kudos to Trion. I may not agree with some of the balancing from the company, I wont deny there sincerity though :)

You got any examples to back that statement up?  You damn them with faint praise.

It is true.  We have a guildie from Japan.  He's fine, but will be away from the game for awhile for obvious reasons.

Trion also gave out VIP Beta Keys for Vets Day to all the vets that wanted one and submitted a photo with them in uniform and a picture of something that had Rift on it.  This was well before VIP keys were available to everyone, so the Vets were able to play in the early Betas.

My heart goes out to you all in Japan. RIFt is shaping up to be an amazing game and i am so glad to see trion doing it's part to help out. I have a lot of respect for the Japanese people.

A truly wonderful gesture on Trion's part!

...Also my heart felt sympathy for the people of Japan.  May you rebuild and recover soon.

OP is probably a Trion employee in disguise!

Just kidding, just kidding. No need to pick up your pitchforks.

Anyway, I agree with the previous posters. This was a -very- decent and humane action on Trion's part. They are surely going great lengths to show that they care about their community.

To the OP, my sincere hopes that you and your country will be able to quickly recover from the disaster!

To add to the list of good things that Trion has done I recieved this email today:

    Greetings Ascended,

Our goal here at Trion is to deliver the highest quality games and a superior customer experience.

Recently, you had to wait through an exceptional delay during the processing of your request for support — a delay that did not and will not meet our high bar for responsiveness. For that, you have our sincere apologies.

This is not the experience that you should expect from Trion Worlds. To help make up for the delay, we have:

    • Credited your account 30 days of play time.

    • Bestowed via in-game mail, to all your current and future characters, a full set of the special RIFT pre-order bonus weapon enchant runes that you may not have had previously.

No action is required on your end. These items and days of play time have already been added to your Trion Worlds account.

We know this does not entirely make up for the frustration you have encountered, but this is our way of thanking you for your patience.

Please know that Trion Customer Service will continue working tirelessly through our support requests. Between recently expanded Customer Support staffing and improvements in our own tools, we are on track to resolve matters more quickly in the future.

I want to personally thank you for your continued support of Trion Worlds, and I hope you continue to enjoy RIFT.

    Best regards,

    Craig P.

I played through 5 betas and liked the game for most of that time. In the end I started getting slightly bored and very annoyed at changes that were being made (the end of my time, not the end of beta), so I ended up canceling my preorder and moved on.

After seeing this thread, as well as some other posts across the net, with examples of Trion doing the right thing, I have just bought the game tonight.

When AoC launched and FC likened it to a "fine steak dinner", I posted that a fine steak is ok unless every time you take a bite the chef runs out of the kitchen and smacks you in the head with a hammer, then the experience still sucks. Great customer service is key for me, and it's the exception in this industry anymore. I try to support (when I can) any of these devs who  lead by example in that area.

So here goes... off to play some Rift :)

Kudos to Trion for doing the right thing in the above examples.

Who care's is Trion's true objective was to sway us into believe they're a good company. You can only assume that they're doing that. I believe they truely do care and have our best interests at heart. They listen to their players, fix things quickly, and take care of their customers. It's called Customer Service. Leave it to some heartless person to see it as a way to just make money.

Much more can be said about Trion's actions than other games I have played. Blizzard for example may do charity donations, but they never help out their playerbase that may be linked to it specifically which is what Trion did for their customers in Japan. I never recieved free play time form blizzard unless they fucked up patches or the game was unplayable for a day or two... and that was free time for everyone, not specific people like in my case.

Back to Blizzard charity donations... it's a tax write-off at the end of the year. Plus they take the money from their "customer's" purchases and use a percentage of that money for donation. So technically they're not using their own money. Trion may not be donating to charity, but at least they're doing what they can which, for a new company, is quite amazing.
